Unused spots/extra entries:

Men - KOR only used 1 of their 2 earned spots. ISR, first in line for this extra spot, did not even use their actual earned spot. FRA sent only 1 entry (could have sent 2 via an extra), and JPN is taking an extra spot to send 2 men's entries here! Also, LAT is entering 3 men as per their right as host.

Ladies - CHN is again not sending a Ladies' entry (earned 1 entry per each of 6 events, has assigned 0/3 spots so far) which allows USA to again send 2! Also, LAT entering 3 ladies as well, again as per hosting rights.

Pairs - AUS only using 1 of 3 spots (not surprisingly, as they don't have many pairs even counting Seniors/Novice). CAN using 2 of 3, and CHN actually using 0 spots. Of the countries earning 2 spots, USA/KOR/ISR/JPN/FRA are all sending 1 entry and GER/ITA/ESP are sending 0. [Surprised most about CHN sending none and USA only using 1 spot]

Ice Dance - CZE is not sending their earned entry, but neither FRA nor GER are taking advantage of the extra available spot.

Saw Maxim Naumov last week at the Philly international and I was very impressed. I'll keep my eye out for him:hap85:

Yup. With light CAN and US entries in this event, Russian fed saw an opportunity to grab gold and silver.

IMO, the Greens (US) tho young and in their first JGP event, aren't as 'light' as they may seem.

Kvartalova/Sviatchenko are out and Panfilova/Rylov are in. Two of the Russian entries here are a bit surprising ones - Akhanteva/Kolesov and Panfilova/Rylov. They should have put Zhuk/Britkov here.

Kim Cheremsky is skating for Azerbaijan now? She competed for Ukraine a couple seasons ago. Nice to see her back, but I wonder why she switched. Better funding from AZE?

Out of curiosity - why?

Well, there are only 4 events which means that they should put two of their best four pairs in each event. Don't think either Akhanteva/Kolesov or Panfilova/Rylov are among Russian's four best pairs. I would expect that the four best pairs would be found from this group: Zhuk/Britkov, Kvartalova/Sviatchenko, Ustimkina/Volodin, Mishina/Galiamov, Boikova/Kozlovskii, Poluianova/Sopot. But now only one pair from this group got assigned here.

But who knows, maybe they looked really good at the test skate event and maybe both Panfilova and Akhanteva have at least one triple jump now.

Even though I haven't heard anything about how Akhanteva/Kolesov did at the test skate event I think that it is worth mentioning that in theory they might have a quad twist this season.

Akhanteva/Kolesov are practising quad twist. They could become pretty competitive team in the future if she could have triples. She tried both 3T and 3S at the Nationals Elder age but they both were terrible and they both were downgraded.

You haven't seen Mishina/Galliamov and Poluyanova/Sopot skate and yet you feel sure that they will be in the strongest group. Similarly, you put Zhuk/Britkov in the strongest group and yet he very rarely lands his jumps. And you forgot Pavliuschenko/Khodykin even though they had much stronger season than Zhuk/Britkov. It seems that your group of the strongest doesn't necessarily reflects who is really the strongest.

Zhuk/Britkov and Mishina/Galliamov did not get spot even at the second pair event. I wonder whether they messed up the test skates?

Kvartalova/Sviatchenko initially had a spot at the first pair event but they lost their spot (moved into substitutes) and did not get a spot at the second pair event either. I wonder if they also had some problems at the test skates.

The Russian junior pairs are getting quite exciting. There is about 10-12 pairs that look that they may have a potential, but no one knows who will manage to push through, who will just stagnate and who will split up or have injury or struggle with puberty. But the level of junior pairs in Russia is definitely higher than in the last few years. Maybe a few more years and it will follow the success of Russian ladies.

I guess main thing is how many of them jumping triples. And how many of them who jump triples are stable. That's the two main questions.

Many years Russian pairs had potential and booked 4-5 places at JGPF. And in the end - almost nothing. As I said since 2009 year even no one win JWC title.
