Legacy on Ice: Benefit to Support AA Flight 5342 Victims

SO hard for Max - he skated his heart out for them.
I'm sure all us us just want to envelop him in hugs
The teammates skate to Ave Maria -- one of his parents most famous programs

I was not ready for the intensity of my emotional reaction to Max.

I had flashbacks to my mother's funeral. I gave the eulogy, and I wanted so desperately to present a polished, warm and loving tribute, and I did. My voice never wavered, no awkward pauses, no stumbling of words. All I could think was that I wanted her to be proud of me.

And then it was done, and I walked off the dais into a back corner, and I fell apart completely.

I totally relate to Max's emotional struggle. He held it together brilliantly, and then the release when it was done. Beautifully skated, Max. Your parents are proud. I know it.

I will admit to using a bunch of tissues while watching the livestream on Youtube thru my VPN.

I thought overall it was a well done tribute and skating show with all sorts of luminaries from skating's past and present. I loved seeing Johnny Weir skate to "Memory" early on. I know he doesn't really do shows anymore so that was a treat and you can tell he created that just for this event. Also liked seeing Ilia Kulik, I honestly didn't recognize him at first. If I had one quibble, it would be that I would've liked to see some of the older skaters actually perform with the younger ones rather than just doing MC duties.

As for Max skating for his parents' favorite song, it was so heartbreaking and lovely at the same time and the group hug with his SCOB mates was so sweet. He showed a lot of strength to come out and skate for them and the audience.

Thank you USFS and all who organized this fundraiser and a remembrance for the lives loss on that tragic plane crash - a month ago. The figure skating performances were emotional and heart felt especially Max’s skating to music his parents dance to often. It was a beautiful tribute to all involved in that tragic day.

Beautiful and touching event. I lost it when Max stepped onto the ice, and held his hands as if taking hold of his parents hands then gliding to center ice. Then skating to their favorite song. When he knelt on ice couldn’t hold in, was so hoping someone would come out put arms around him. ❤️🙏

Never imagined I'd see Max so soon after his parents' tragic passing, but he is a strong boy and a strong spirit. I'm sure he wanted to be part of a show that was meant to commemorate his beautiful parents. He must have pushed himself to do it!

His tribute program is BY FAR my favorite of this show and I loved how Jimmy, Misha and Alisa came out afterwards and floated around him like three comforting angels. To me, they symbolize the real thing--real angels ministering to him every day. Really simple, elegant and beautiful. I cried to so hard right along with him. T_T

It was beautiful to see so many skaters taking part and paying their respects to the victims and their families. Isabella's and Maxim's performances were particularly heartbreaking and difficult to watch. 💔 I was very moved by Jimmy, Alisa and Misha joining Maxim after his skate to perform to Ave Maria together.
