Madison Chock & Evan Bates

They have won the SD, IMO. I was so impressed I can't even.. It was lights out preformance. I wish Evan will free himself more, he's a bit stiff. And his hair? It doesn't fit the dance.

I agree with you. Evan has to re create himself. He should let his hair grow. Grow long and wild. He should put some fire in his skating. Other than that they Skate great. Hard program too! Happy fan here!

Congrats to Madi & Evan on a fantastic performance! Skating first was dicey but they came out on fire & threw down the gauntlet for the rest of the field. This SD is fun and so different than anything else they've done, I think they are surprising people with this look for them. The program will only get better, faster, & more refined, but this is an amazing start to the season for them!

As for Evan, it's tough for a big guy to do this type of style with all the quick, sharp moves required but I think he does fine here; I'm not going to hate on him for this performance. I think he can work on his persona in this program for improvement, and I'm sure he will. I was really happy to hear Rohene is traveling with them to Russia next week and will spend the following week working with them at Novi. Now that they have the program down, I'm sure Rohene will be working with them on more of the performance details & nuances to make this even better.

Well done guys,

a kiss for Madison and a big hug for Evan, what a great two days in Canada! Thanks for being so special and unique :)

Congrats Madison & Evan for silver at SC!

Madison must have brought along company to Canada, I saw her walking her little dog in front of the hotel last night.

Yay Madi and Evan :hap10: So happy for them. Placing first in the FD in the favorite's home ice is amazing, and shows that their unique program is paying off. Go and win Rostelecom!!! :yahoo:  :hap57:

Congrats to C/B! For me they were the highlight of the dance competition! Rocked their SD and FD!

I was not able to be at the FS performance at SC but saw the SD and was SO impressed. They came out on fire, and they just seemed to be so sharp and sassy! It was just such a different look from the Rachmaninoff type pieces they've been using the last few years. Good for them for realizing they needed to go in a different direction. I really look forward to seeing them the rest of the season.

:hap10: So thrilled with both performances! That FD performance was fantastic to kick off the GP season! I'm so excited to see what the season brings for them. I haven't been able to find videos of the BESP guys commentary or that of Tracy Wilson on Canadian TV. So far I'm only finding Russian commentary, which unfortunately doesn't help me.

Random observations: looks like Evan ditched the short sleeves and went back to his American in Paris costume. Good move, I thought the short sleeves were distracting for some reason. Also, shallowly, I really liked his hair for this performance. I think he needs a more modern, edgier hairstyle for this program, and the curly floppy to the side look suited the purpose. I'm hoping he grows it out a bit & makes it even more modern. It would help with the whole "look" of the program.

But wow, what a great competition they had. They came out fired up and ready to take on the season. So exciting!

Just wanted to say how impressed I am with the way Madi and Evan perform lifts in their programs. Every lift has a difficult entrance, a difficult exit and amazing transitions. Ever since last year's Haunted EX, I've been paying attention to their insane lifts and just came here to express my amazement at how effortless they make these lifts seem. The lifts in the FD this season are incredible as well.
I've never really been their largest fan, but it's impossible to not note the precision and overall beauty their lifts always have.

I love Madi and Evans, they are great performers. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them for BOTH SD and FD which were definitely brilliant during Skate Canada 2016. Their FD twizzle sequence is just so fab! I think it's gonna be tough for the Shibs to defend their title as US couple number One. In general, the competition sounds really interesting this year with the Shibs, Madi & Evans, Tessa & Scott, I guess Katlyn & Andrew, and Gaby & Guillaume. Piper & Paul, Madi & Zach are also coming with very interesting programs as well.

I should come here more often. Its the land of Chock and Bates love and I feel right at home :luv17:

Yes, this is the place to come, Nathan13! Welcome to Maddie & Evan's Fan page!

Oh! Hallelujah!! Congratulations to Maddie & Evan for the silver at SC!! To me, they should have won but we will take the Silver!!

SD - So proud of them! You can see they really attacked the program. That 'Hip Hop' was skated with 'attitude' and 'ferociousness'. They have the highest Tech marks and deservedly so. So glad the judges awarded them marks exactly for what they saw. Some of their moves are hard on the 'back' for the ladies, Maddie made them looked effortless. Sharp, punctuated moves done with skill and precision. That entry into the twizzles was insane!

FD - I was very nervous about this - 'Under Pressure' is not everyone's cup of tea. This piece is more about creating different shapes and movements with the music rather than telling some 'story' between the couple. The FD here was skated quite differently compared to their previous two 'B' event outings, they were both executing so much passion and drive that I was liking it more and more right to the end and didn't want it to stop. Christopher Dean's work sometimes require expert eyes to see the nuances. And the judges did, giving them the nod!! Maddie and Evan skated with such confidence that I am not sure I have even seen before. Again, so proud of them, this was a tougher draw for Ice Dancers compared to Skate America last week - they literally skated 'under pressure' and triumphed!

Go and win 'Rostelecom' this week!! And Congratulations again!

First of all, Congrats to Madi and Evan for their best FD performance to date.

I love Virtue/Moir but Madi/Evan should have won the Gold. The Canadian Judge hosed them terribly - giving them the lowest PCS of the five. The Russians S/B got better scores from him that averaged 8.55 (8.50 in skating skills, transistions, interpretation; 9 points in Composition and 8.25 in Performance) to C/B's 8.15 (Skating skills _7.75, Transistions and Interpretation - 8.00 and 8.5 each for Performance and Composition) basically placing C/B 5th in PCS. If he had scored them like the way 6 other judges did [the 9th Judge - the Korean, I don't know what planet he is from - he, too, is odd] , C/B would have totally edged out V/M and won Gold. The Italian Judge gave C/B 8.75, placing C/B 3rd. Both Judges were incredibly biased. BTW, if the Korean Judge's odd/peculiar judging is an indicator of what 2018 Ice-dancing judging will be like, I pity C/B. One odd ball can significantly undermine their winning chances.

Does anyone have a video of Maddie & Evan's SC SP and FD with British or American commentary, please?

Really dying to hear what they have to say, especially from the British guys. I only get the Russians ones on Youtube, I wish I understand Russian but I don't, so don't know what they are saying. I know that Tatiana Tarasova last year at Worlds was yelling 'bravo bravo' at Maddie & Evan's Free Dance. The Russians are more honest and direct (they say it for what they see) in their commentary but wish someone could interpret them. I really can't stand the 'Canadian' lady - far too bias, don't mind Kurt Browning.

I don't think BESP covered ice dance unfortunately. I asked for the SC russian commentaries to be translated on the great new thread here
Once a translation is done they update the OP so it's easy to keep track. A lovely poster is gonna translate it within a couple of days.

I absolutely loved their exhibition gala program. So cool, so relaxed and humorous- just exactly what I want when I watch Galas. Great idea! And congrats with silver at Skate Canada!

well, I can speak Russian and I'm afraid both RU commentators (one of them was Maxim Staviski, former ice dancer with Albena Denkova of Bulgaria) came to conclusion they preffered V&M's FD. Nevertheless C&B were clean and sharp, skated along with the music.
UPD: but I have to admit after VM FD performance Staviski said: "well, they began good: interesting and beautiful but then it palled, it was quite boring to watch during 4 minutes".
oops, what a collision

Staviski said that Madison and Evan had interesting transitions and elements in their FD and that they had skated well, but that he still preferred "the Canadians", not that he preferred Virtue/Moir. Both of them liked Gilles/Poirier's FD a lot, and after V/M had skated they said that they preferred Gilles/Poirier to them, so I think after Chock/Bates skated "the canadians" Staviski was talking about where still Gilles/Poirier, not Virtue/Moir.
