Marin Honda

I didn't intend to watch her ex program but she really had something so effortlessly beautiful which compelled me to watch. The program only got better. She also seems to weather her growth spurt very well.

I checked Marin's ISU profile and it says that she practices 60 hours a week  That means 8.5 hours per day, isn't it too much? Obviously there's also off ice training and maybe ballet/ dance clases but this just crazy, isn't it?

I noticed that a while ago too.. don't know if she is still going to school regularly?
all of the honda kids seem working super hard.. taichi also training 50 hours per week, and miyu has this crazy schedule...
I remember watching the documentary about them, they have this training room in their house and they do some off-ice training even at home every day before they went to bed or something, maybe that's how the 60 hours come from...

Seems that Marin trains very few hours per day (source: Mie Hamada). Maybe, now, near Olimpics, (my dear) Marin reinforces her training

Very few hours ON THE ICE per day, or in totally (on+off ice)?
Some skaters (like Yuzu) have few hours on the ice per day, but also have off-ice training to improve stamina, balance, etc...
I guess we'll see soon enough how she'll balance her training for this coming season.

From theskatinglesson insta: "Does Marin Honda need two triple-triple combinations in her free skate? How would you design her jump layout for next season?" What do you think guys? What's your hopes for this season? I hope that her jumps will get bigger and fuller, she will improve her spins especially centering and her stamina and consistency :luv17: For me jump layout should look like this:

3F-3Lo or 3Lz-3Lo (lutz is not her best jump, neither is flip but she's been trying both of them)
3Lz or 3F
in the second half
2A-2T-2Lo
3S-3T
3Lo or 3F
2A

Breadstall: all jumps in second half (like Alina). That has aesthetical problems but gather more score.

Marin is all about aesthetical aspects of skating though :luv17: I hope she won't go too severe, I'm not sure if she has stamina for this as well but we will see what she will put.

It's more advantageous to do a 2axel-3toe if it can be done well, because it maximises the GOE potential, so I think she should stick with it. This whole legend that doing two 3-3 is better rewarded by the judges seems ridiculous to me. I am not saying that is logical, but the system rewards an easier combination, so I can't find a reason not to do it. Eteri's girls don't have great triple Axel, otherwise they would be doing 2A-3t combos (like Yulia did)

You're right, and solo axels don't get big GOEs so it's good to put combos with axel and get bigger GOEs on single triples, but -3Lo combos are great because you're not repeating 3T so you're base value is higher because you repeat harder jumps but two triple-tripe combinations are probably not 'must'.

I think her 3S-3T is better than her 2A-3T. Because I saw her trying these -3Lo combos, I would love her to put it in programs but consistency is the most important.

2-5 jump layout was fine for her. I wish she keep it and improve stamina. (Fall on 3F and popped 2A:hopelessness:)

+3Lo combo was too risky and the combo were UR IMO.

She needs confidence on 3Lz. Without UR and edge issue, she should repeat 3Lz instead of 3F.

Keep using 2A+3T and 3F(3S/3Lo)+3T in the free skating, put 3Lz as solo jump in SP and repeat 3Lz (and 3T) in FS is a better option.

I think this is a manageable layout for her....
It has her do two 3-3 combos but they are the ones she's most comfortable with.

2A
3Lo-3T
------
3S-2T-2Lo
3F-3T
3Lz
2A
3S

I think her Lp layout will be :
3Lz
3F -3T
---------
3F
2A-3T
3S-2T-2L
3L
2A

She won't go for two 3S in the Lp: it's more likely she'll deliver two 3F (because of the base value).
This layout has the same BV of Med's these past two seasons one.

Absolutely! If she's comfortable with a -3lo she should go for it, especially because it would be very advantageous on the SP. And yes, success rate is what matters the most in the end.

I think that she should put one 3-3 and the 2A-3T, but both in 2nd half.
Her layout could be something like this:
3 Lz - it's probably her less consistent jump, so going for that as the 1st jumping pass is good.
3 F
2nd half -
2A-3T
3S-3T
3F-2T-2Lo
3Lo
2A
She could maximize her Base Value by putting all the combinations in the 2nd half, but also going for the 3-2-2 in the 1st half is not bad if she is more confident with that. Also, her 3S-3T seems more reliable than her 3F-3T, so she could go with that in the 2nd half.
Her BV, in this way, would be 47.71, that is actually higher than Wakaba's this year with two 3Lz-3T.
If Marin can go for the 3-3Lo combinations in competitions, I'll be absolutely okay with that! Go Marin :clap:
