Marin Honda

I remember at The Ice, when Satoko was doing her competitive programs, she was very cautious and not skating them the way she did at competitions. I believe Marin is doing the same. By the time USA classics (she's going, right?) arrive, I'm positive it will already be better. :)

Those Ice Show rinks are way smaller than a regular competition rink - because they typically put several extra rows of seating on the ice, and then put some advertising boards and lighting in front of those. It's also sometimes very dark in the rink, but with blinding spotlights on the skaters.

So I'm never surprised when skaters are cautious when doing their competition programs at an ice show, or don't do them very well, or don't jump combos etc etc. It's a miracle they can do them at all under those conditions! O_o There just isn't enough room to do them properly! (Especially the faster skaters, and big jumpers).

PS.
A feature-length Marin special on TV :-D

Thanks for the explanation! I've never been to an ice show, so I did not know this.

Kingdom for the translation!
(some most funny/interesting parts at least)

As with a lot of Japanese variety shows, it wasn't that interesting, but she was as cute as always so I watched it.

Most interesting tidbit from it would be that she rarely ever does full run-throughs of her routine in practice. She splits it up into thirds for practice and then puts it all together at competitions. She also changes choreography and how she performs depending on the day and even jumps sometimes during the free routine so it's fun for her to think about not zayaking.

Thank you. Could you tell me what she said about Usain Bolt and who's the black dude at 20:06?

Initially the MCs were like you like him as an athlete, but she denied that and said she liked his looks. He's her type lmao. The other guy is Bobby Ologun who's a talent in Japan.:) They say he's kind of the same type and Marin looks like she doesn't think so, but says yeah sort of.

Happy birthday dear Marin. I don't know that say rankings but, for me, you are the best skater of the World! The most elegant, fluid, aesthetic and beautiful and each day more reliable!

She had a open practice today and she will change her SP.:eeking: She is too young to skate a "Tango" program and I am okay with the decision.

The program was not yet choreographed and the music of new SP was not yet announced. She will get the new choreography after the first competition (U.S. International Classic). I hope she will find Marina Zueva again:luv17:

She will skate to "Smile" in U.S. International Classic and "Tango" will use as exhibition.

OH THANK GOD. I assume that means we can also say goodbye to her SP costumes? Double yay.:yes2:

Small correction, but she's going to perform Smile as her SP for US international with the tango as an ex program. She heard a song that knocked her off her feet in her coach's car one week ago and has decided to switch her SP because of it. So whimsical, but that's part of her charm in my eyes.:luv17:

YAY!!!!!! Best decision EVER

Hmm. I can't decide if I think this is a good idea, or not...

I liked her SP, but it was very much "Marin style" and didn't look like a "proper" Tango - so I was worried the judges might not accept it as good interpretation of the music, and she would take a hit on PCS. So perhaps it's good that she is choosing something else.

But on the other hand, isn't it risky changing programs this late...?! She will only have roughly 5 weeks after US Int Classic, to learn completely new choreography and perfect it... before she must compete with it at Skate Canada...! O_o

Well I hope it all works out for the best.

PS. I also hope Marina's choreography will ban the use of any "why why" drama-hands, which I personally think "never works" - not for any skater, in any program, ever... :-/
