Marin Honda

"However, it wasn’t an easy win for Marin, because the venue was at a high altitude, and the air was thin. After performing, she was unsteady on her feet, and couldn’t make it to the Kiss and Cry. She ended up just sitting on the bench right outside the rink’s entrance. Her coach said Marin was so pale when she left the rink.

“I was very focused, and kept on telling myself that no matter what happens, I have to skate until the end. I believe I won the fight against myself,” Marin said. She also mentioned not even remembering doing the triple loop and the last jump combination she did. “I gave it all I’ve got, but I’m not satisfied with my performance at all. I still have a lot to work on." source: http://japaneseadventures.tumblr.co...arin-honda-once-again-took-the-lead-in-the-fs

I'm feeling like a proud mom. She did so well despite the altitude and thin air.
Could not ask for more!

altitude sickness

Well, it was the same conditions for everybody there...

altitude sickness is unique for different persons. affects some more and some less.
it is not that the air is "thin" it is actually less air pressure in the lungs.

marin honda: us classic post-fs interview

Your thoughts on your win?

M: Even with the harsh conditions of being within high altitude, I was able to do the best I can right now. I don’t remember the end of the second half at all. Physically, I was able to win against myself.

Your thoughts after experiencing the senior field?

M: I thought it was amazing that I got to compete with people I always watched on television, but now that I’m in the same position as them, I must fight to not lose against them.

Your thoughts on your score?

M: I’m so happy that they gave me high marks expression wise. I’m content that I was able to score like this even with a mistake. But I must continue working hard.

Your thoughts on your level 4 spins?

M: That is what I’m most happy about. I was able to get level 4’s in both the SP and the FS. In order to get more points, I want to challenge spins that are even more unique.

Your feelings regarding the Olympic spots?

M: My biggest goal for this season is to be chosen for the Olympics. I was able to do what I could do this time, but they weren’t performances that I was satisfied with, so I want to continue practicing steadily.

Could somebody translate, what's Mao saying about Marin at 2:30 and later?
https://youtu.be/BE5y42Fl43U?t=149

This is about making the Olympic team and Mao talks about being as nervous at JNats as she was at the Olympics.
Interviewer: You were 16 at the time you won your first JNats, the same age as Honda-san now.
Mao: Yes, that's right. But I think she is excited. So I think if she goes with the flow she will be able to show her strengths.
...
Mao: She should just ride the wave without thinking too much.

Because in the US Classic her legs look very slim.

I think she looks as slim as in last season, I guess she gained a little bit of weight during off-season/ ice shows but now that she started her full training she lose that and got back to her normal weight.

She looks very thin in latest vids indeed.

Olympic regime, I guess.

Yes, she does but not overly skinny or anything, like most of girls in figure skating tbh Yeah lol I hope she's working hard and I really want her to put these lutzes that we've seen in planned layout, I really want her to keep getting better and better and compete head to head with top women :yahoo:
