Medvedeva WDs from GPF

I believe it's the right decision, but I'm still pretty depressed and want to hit the CTRL+Z on this whole season.:(

Aw.. I think it's the right decision. You can not force recovery on ankle/foot related fractures. I really hope she takes her time to heal. Considering she was or (is still?) in a cast, she would need to work on getting back her strength and range of motion of her ankle. It takes time. I hope no further complications in her recovery too.

That said, let Zagitova battle it out in the GPF. I still think Med will come back strong and take that Olympic gold!

I also want to give this emoji :/ to all the speculation that the Russian fed would have her skate in the SP only to withdraw her during it or after to prevent the first alternate from competing. Like cmon people? That would be basically painting a huge HATE ME on their backs and I believe that they do want more skating to be seen by everyone.

remember, russians are always evil, so expect the worst from them

I am sure she is disappointed but her health is more important in the long run. Best wishes Med for a speedy recovery!

Smart move on her part. Why skate and risk a real broken foot and the end of her Olympic dreams for another GPF gold medal which she already has two?

The problem is she already skated being injured at two competitions, had she skipped GPs she would have been healed by now, as it was relatively minor injury to start with. I wish skaters and their teams were more careful.
Speedy recovery to Evgenia!

It shows though, how important it seems to be, that you are on the ice, to build up your reputation. Her injury did not come over night, it must have been known for weeks, maybe months. Yet, she did compete from the first day on.

This calls for changes in the judging system, maybe the ISU could even go that far and put a limit on how many competitions someone is allowed to do. We have that in tennis (juniors tour) and it worked ok. I just don´t think that it is that good that athletes from young age on, have to skate each month multiple times.

Let´s hope she can recover, but the season is seriously tough to follow. No Gracie and Yulia, others are injured, no more Hip Hop :(

I feel sad and relieved at the same time. I was afraid she'll skate injured. She made a right decision.

Ankle? I thought it was the foot (metatarsal bone)?

I believe it is metatarsal. I corrected my original post. I had my ankle injured/fractured last year, and while my injury is different, any ankle and foot related injury is/can be complicated. I have no idea which metatarsal she broke. If she has the Jones Fracture (5th metatarsal), healing could take more time. It depends on how her body recovers.

That said, I wish Med all the best. She's still my favourite for Olympic gold. All the rest can battle out for Silver and Bronze.

I wonder now wether she will skip nationals and go straight for Euros.. Nationals in Russia are a HUGE deal.

Glad she isn't skating injured, but also super bummed that we'll probably see Alina easily walk away with the GPF title.

I don't agree with this one. I think everyone can win there, may be except Sotskova, because they all scored 210+ in the current season. Actually now it's becoming very similar to what we are going to have in juniors - a very small difference in scores between 4-5 contenders.

Perhaps....I hope this is the case. Will be very interesting to see how Alina's LP PCS stacks up in this field.

I suppose I anticipate a mediocre SP result, and then TES through the roof and very high PCS in the LP to win overall, like all season.

I wonder if this puts more pressure on Alina or gives here a peace of mind.

I definitely think it ups the pressure. With Evgenia temporarily out of the picture, all the attention is on her.

Get healthy soon Evgenia. I'm glad that they decided this now, so that Satoko can take part. Good for Japan.
