I think that popped axel will make the difference, but Tomas did great!
I would put him first, but then again I'm totally biased!

Yeah if Verner had done the second triple axel he would have won. Oh well, atleast he did really well and came back strong after his poor first event. Good to see the judges give him PCS almost equal to Takahashi too.

Tomas Verner has a very good chance at Europeans. He had a slow start but pregresses fast. The guy is dangerous!

One thing I dont like about the new system is you get more points out of falling on a quad and doing 2 triple axels, then landing a clean quad, doing 1 triple axel, and popping the other. That is because you lose 7 points for popping the triple axel to a single, only 4 for falling on the quad. Under the old system a guy who landed a clean and beautiful quad and triple axel without falling would atleast be favored as far as jumps over one who fell on a bad quad attempt, and did 2 triple axels.

Well I believe a clean quad and 1 clean triple axel is better then a fall on a quad and 2 clean triple axels. Under the old system it was actually better to pop then fall since you got no credit for jumps you fell on either, plus it detracted from the flow of the program. Atleast if you pop you dont do the jump but you dont detract from the program. Under the new system you get credit for falling on hard jumps, which is why you see so many sloppy programs with mistakes win medals. Under the old system jumps that you missed were just disregarded altogether as part of your final content, and they took into consideration the fall or other disruptive mistakes itself too.

there were some times when a sloppy program was gifted under the old system too...

favorites are held up in both systems...

but I do agree that sport should move forward, not back, and that skaters should get something for attempting the difficult... I think the argument is that a pop is the skater deciding mid air not to go for it... where as a fall is -hey at least they attempted to be competitive athletically.

I do think the quad is too high point wise when it's a fall...

but all in all I still have faith in the new system.
