I think the argument is that a pop is the skater deciding mid air not to go for it... where as a fall is -hey at least they attempted to be competitive athletically.

When a skater pops a jump, there's no thought process involved---it's an involuntary reflex. The body aborts the jump because the takeoff was too precarious.

Skaters never want to pop a jump, because it's a double whammy: they use up a jumping pass, and they get zero points for it.

I love that Tomas Verner is skating to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but the music selections and choreography could be arranged better. The part of the score that really expresses a deep sense of longing was really downplayed. There is a lot of depth to this music and it isn't being fully brought out.

Really bad caller, then. Look at the Youtube video. He's so far on the outside edge on his Flip that the boot almost touches the ice.

Yes, I know. Tomas got dinged for it in the short, but in the long the caller decided not to notice it.

skater/skater body... I think the 'argument' is still there whether it makes sense or not... if you don't do the jump you don't get any points for the huge 'hop'

whereas if you take it on your keester at least you got something done before falling...

Carriere didn't get dinged in the SP, but did in the FS. Sorry, but a lipper usually does it all the time, or lips so slightly that it shouldn't be dinged.

I think one TS called the SP and the other one called the FS. I suspect that was true in the Ladies' event as well, because there was a MAJOR difference between the number of edge calls in one segment as opposed to the other.

Maybe that was an attempt to spread the responsibility, but the end result was .

For the NHK men's it was Mr. Shin AMANO as a TS in both events.

I think it was an (rather strange) attempt to avoid accusations of biased scoring.

What I meant is that the TS (Amano, in the Men's event and Olavarrieta in the Ladies) allowed the Assistant TS to call one of the segments. For the men, Olavarietta was the ATS and in the Ladies, it was Eun-Hee Lee.

I noticed that Olavarrieta was very lenient towards the Ladies in the SP but there were lots of ur and edge dings in the FS.

He was? Well, since the best men's skater's won and since that skater happens to be Daisuke, I'm OK with it.

Same thing with Dobrin, he got dinged in one program (I think the LP) and not the other.

Sorta off topic, but does anyone know if Mr. Amano is coaching any skater this season? He was coaching Patrick Chan last season but not anymore.
