Mens' LP

Heh. Abbott's 3As weren't downgraded. The 3Lz was.

I just went back and watched this in slowmo and that is a VERY harsh downgrade. I looked close, but fine to me.

And  at the judge who though Joubert splatting across the ice on that final axel only deserved a -2 instead of full -3.

Looking at the PCS scores, I am (unpleasantly) surprised that both Joubert and Lysacek beat Chan on transitions. Seriously, judges? Seriously?

Either the judges are smoking something suspicious, or I somehow missed Joubert and Lysacek's transition-laden programs...

I ignore the individual categories of the PCS. It's almost guaranteed the guy with the highest PCS is going to have the highest score across all of the separate categories. His transitions could stink, but he'll still outscore everyone.

Chan's TES were about 1.5 lower, his PCS almost 3 points.

TES should have been even lower. The only part agree with is that his Transition point should have been higher but that still doesn't give those mammoth scores he is getting. CORRUPT JUDGING!!!

Their transitions were so fast that you and I have missed it totally

Medal Ceremony - I saw Sharon Carz and Angela Nikodinov. Who was the third woman, please.

The beautiful and statuesque Lise Marie Allen. US Ladies 3 or 4 time silver medalist from 1977 to 1980. She competed in an era where the champion was the champion (Linda Fratianne) and mostly deservedly so, but second was always second.

She had moments of glory at international competitions. Worlds in 1978 in Canada - her free skate which was only 5th or 6th brought the house down. She had but one triple in her arsenal - a salchow - but her skating was elegant. You can see her Long at Lake Placid Olympics on YouTube, and will be duly impressed. The definitive Beethoven final section. Also beautiful signature spiral change edge spiral.

When it was finally her "turn" in 1981, the sport had changed. Along came a triple jumping sprite named Elaine Zayak, and poor Lise Marie fell on her lone triple right at the start of the program, her heart sank, and the she ended up a disappointing 3rd at US nationals, and didn't even make the world team, and retired from competitive skating. (2nd by the way was Priscilla Hill, finally making her world team for once and for all). I remember her tearful interview with Peggy Fleming that year after coming in 3rd. She was crying but ever so classy saying her path in life would take her in another direction.

Lisa Marie was beautiful elegant breath of fresh air gracious All-American skater who never somehow got the gold, but always enchanted fans with skating that always said - "Ladies" skating (I mean that as a compliment).

Personal taste does not dictate corruptness. Just because you don't enjoy Patrick's skating does not mean that judging is corrupt. I don't like Brian's skating but I think he is a great performer and should have the highest in that area. Evan's execution was great tonight. I'm not their biggest fans but I don't think their beating Chan on those particular aspects is corrupt because Evan lists Tatiana as a choreo, or Brian is the quad whisperer or whatever.

In my opinion it's fine to not enjoy a skater and maybe say how you think it should have been judged, but to just dictate as being 'mammoth scores' and 'corrupt judging' is a bit overboard.

Has Kazakhstan just earned a second spot for Olympics?, and do they have a second athlete.
Yes, and the guy even has a 3A I think. Interesting style he has, he was at 4CC.

By the way, 6 clean Quads - 5 of them from Europe with love, one of them from Japan with love.

Two botched but rotated and landed Quads from Mroz and Voronov.

I am psyched about Lutai, come on, that should give him some confidence, 7th at Euros and then Top Ten at Worlds? Both times beating the Russian Champ. But the PCS is so low, lowest PCS out of the entire Top Ten... What can he do about that?

I had the exact same thought! Let's see if the curse continues.

Wow, Evan the world champion? I wonder if anyone predicted this.
Yes, Brian did. He told Philip Hersh last week he considered Evan the most serious contender, and people said he was dissing other skaters. No - he was clairvoyant! Also, Plushenko picked a podium of Evan, Brian and Jeremy, so even with the one mistake, Plushy clearly did better than most of the posters here

HOLY CRAP!!!

Poor Brian....Ain't Karma a *****!! Trashes Jeff at the post skate Press Conference, not to mention the kicking of the table full of glass back stage last year, has been saying the Quad should be all but nothing and...
It's been a year. He's said more than once Jeffrey skated a perfect competition. He did not let himself get dragged into Chan's little dustup. Are you so obsessed with one French guy and his opinions on the quad that you have to be that nasty about it? Skate Canada officials have been extremely unpleasant, so maybe their karma is that Canada lost the third spot in both the men's and the pairs.

I find it really disappointing that people come here and accuse others of bashing Canadians and then go about bashing various non-Canadians (e.g. Brian, Lysacek, DomShabs in the dance, etc.). Enough already. These skaters have worked so hard, for so many years, and even if we don't like their skating, let's at least try not to get too bitchy.

No, it means Pushenko will have a field day within this men's field. LOL.
I begin to think you are right. Him or Dai. If Chan thinks he can win Olys with a base mark under 70, he's delusional, even if the judges do love him.

I really hope cloudkicker09 is right about Brian fighting back next season. I'm very disappointed for him, but maybe now he'll come back motivated and strong next year, like he was after the Olympic season. At the very least, I hope he stays healthy. He's had medical issues each of the last three seasons, and still got European and World medals every year - including three golds.

And finally, on a happy note - congratulations, Evan Lysacek! What a comeback: no GPF, third at US Nats, and now World champion. Good for him. Though I wish he'd gone for the quad, at least once. The US men earn three spots again, and do so in style. Well done, guys.

Well, you just wait till tomorrow. CORRUPT JUDGING at its worst.

Thanks. Yes, I remember Lisa Marie as well. I just didn't catch who it was.

BEST POST EVER. I am sure next season is going to kick some @#$. Well let's hope at least. I can bet 100$ that the Olympic Champion will be the one who was not present at this competition. Though I do hope that Brian gives some fight there.

I think Brian would have learned to tone down after last year? I felt so bad for him. He looked so upset and disappointed at the end.

Let's just hope Chan doesn't gloat. Things might get nasty.

Reporters probably ask Patrick 'what do you think about Brian's comments about...' and he answers honestly. A lot of us think the same things and a lot think the same as Brian. He's asked a question and answers honestly as he sees fit. I don't see him as a gloater. I see him as someone who is proud and amazed by his accomplishments and takes it in stride.
