I think you're the only who did, you're not so slow.show 42 said:Why does everyone say that Michelle didn't know the rules for CoP? Do you think she just went out there and skated and hoped her tricks would rack up the points. Get real........She studied, she practiced, she skated. She went away without a medal, but she's not limping, nothing needs to be surgically repaired, and she's not under a doctor's care. She won her 9th Nationals and her immediate family is well and intact.......All in all, not a bad season........... 42
:agree:How do you know she diddn't study the CoP at all? She watched/studied 4CC and European. Now she knew her bolero program as skated in LP with two mistakes(one fall triple one double footed triple) got about the same points as Sasha's Qual with one fall. And Sasha's had 7 triples planed, Michelle only had 6 triples.Dee4707 said:During one of the interviews, Michelle said, I need to study, get the math down (Math don’t get excited here) and talk to a lot of people about new programs. Isn’t that kind of putting the cart before the horse? I guess what I don’t understand did she really think she could win without knowing anything about the COP? Isn’t that being a little arrogant??
Do you think she was using this Worlds to make a decision about the Olympics?

Piel said:By all accounts she has been working as hard as any of the other ladies. She just had not competed under the new scoring system. I don't get all of these accusations of Kwan being a slacker when she is known to be a hard worker. You need to consider all of the years that she has competed at top form without a break until she decided not to do the GP. A lot of the other ladies have taken time off for illness or injury. Not their choice but a break is a break. And since when are Dean and Morosova not considered top choreographers??? She has spent the last year trying to get ready for the CoP so how can you say she didn't take it seriously?
Kwan has been nothing but good for the sport of figure skating.

My thoughts exactly, Piel.
Doggygirl said:And Mzheng, I'm not referring to you specifically. This comment has been made in a variety of places here and on other boards throughout World's.
In the competitive sport of figure skating, I fail to understand how grasping the point system (as it stands, for better or worse) and designing programs to maximize points is "pimping for points," "code whoring," or any other number of derogatory comments that have been made this season about skaters who have bothered to maximize points. THIS IS A COMPETITIVE SPORT!
If working to maximize points in TES is pimping and whoring, then I guess skaters like Lambiel and Buttle are the biggest pimp and code whores of all - or at least on the same level with Irina, Sasha, T&M, S&Z, Plush, Wier, etc.
If maximizing points in an effort to win in her sport would make MK a tasteless pimp-*****, then no wonder she's having difficulty figuring out what to do. GEEZ.
OK - rant over.

!! Bring 'em on people!!**holding power-shield***Carolina certainly had a fairy-tale competition. But I think we need to keep things in perspective.Frau Muller said:You have to be joking. Carolina was superior not only in technique (3-3s) but artistry...absolutely floated like a fairy!![]()

millie said:Guy s, to me figure skating is like a game of chance or playing roulette. The skaters practice for years, some harder then others, then they go out onto the ice with a pair of boots and two little blades supporting them. They twirl around and jump around, they may have practiced the spins and the jumps and have them down pat. But, when they get on that ice with those blades, I think its a game of chance, the take off, how they spin while they are in the air, the position of their legs before they land, what's going through their head while they are in these
positions. A wrong move, a negative thought, all this has an effect on the game.
Some skaters are lucker than others, they go out play their game without a flaw, but then all of a sudden "Bango", some one comes out and ups the ante., Game over..
All these skaters go out there and skate. Some fans say they are skating for the love of it and passion. Yes for love of it and passion BUT the main reason is the MONEY. Its a job to them and their livelyhood. If they had to skate for free, I don't
think that you would see a skater on the ice
Congradulations to all the skaters, go home and practice hard all summer and probably next season you will be on top the game of chance.![]()

P.S. Now that skating is almost over for the season, I would love to go to Las Vagas and put my bets where I can make some money, but I can't.
), you are spot on... I think that we, as fans, sometimes forget the whole "its a job" part, not to mention the mental piece... I'm just looking forward to October... Let the games begin!!!

This is the only way we can relieve our thoughts on figure skating. Nobody means any harm or bad thoughts to these tallented young skaters. I for one would not or could not in my wildest dreams do what they do. I can't even stand up on a pair of skates let alone do a tripple flip, I would end up in ER in traction.![]()

But you know what? I do understand what the anti-whores are talking about. It wasn't only Michelle who complained at the beginning of the season that the CoP was forcing her to compromise the artistic integrity of her programs.
Lori Nichol, speaking particularly about Fumie, says, "I am a fan of some aspects of the [new judging] system, but right now there is less freedom and it is limiting;...it's not choreography anymore, it's become a skill of arrangement and it's like painting by numbers in a straitjacket."
Audry Weisiger, speaking about Yoshie Onda, says, "[W]e've been working on the value of the performance versus just doing the tricks."
To me, that was the biggest disappointment of this Worlds. I did not see many performances that had artistic value. (Thank goodness for Jeff Buttle!) Figure skating is not skiing downhill against a stopwatch.
Maybe Michelle and like-minded performers will decide to "go pro" after all. I can see that happening. Take the three cheesefests as the basis of a pro-am circuit, and see what form of the sport is more popular.
