Paramonova and Kulikova are very solid overall 08-skaters. Quietly impressive in Zhilina's shadow. Rubtsova, Shifrina and Titova all very good for their age (09s), but nothing crazy.

This Elements session here didn't create big gaps in the top 6.

It's pretty crazy for our country. LOL. I think we could gather together 10,000 ten and unders in the US, and you would see only a few triple jumps attempted, let alone triple triples or triple lutz attempts. I think the younger girls are astounding. I haven't gotten to watch the older Novice girls yet, but I'm sure I'll be just as astounded! These are amazing kids, period. 10, 11 and 12 year olds are dealing with growth plate issues, sometimes overnight-and there is much adjustment during this time. Even so, the level of basic skating skills, spins and jumps is really impressive.

Kostyleva has the best first stride. She doesn't require any time to accelerate at all, she just zooms.

She's a CSKA skater. CSKA skaters always get grossly overscored in domestic competitions, especially Moscow locals. I usually mentally deduct a couple of points from every CSKA skater to see where they actually deserve to be.

This is absurd. Girl can perform and glide - shower her with GOE if you like, but her jumps are laboured, heavy and hunched - no way she deserves those scores for them.

Watched most of top 10 performances here and the only one who stroke me as an big overall talent was Kostyleva.

The rest of girls have some solitary strong features here and there, but only Kostyleva has it all.

Kostyleva's the most talented one for sure. But there are some others, I'd say.

Margarita Bazyliuk I think is very talented, and with her being in Crystal I think she would have quad potential with her rotation speed. Quite a natural performer and not stone faced, which would be very welcome.

I guess Alena Zhilina should also be mentioned since she's been doing 3A training and all, but I really don't think she's nearly as talented as her older sister. She should have extreme flexibility but for some reason never uses spins that take advantage of that, instead doing some thoroughly ugly positions so shrug.

Alena Krivonosova's also pretty noteworthy, as no one else does skating skills the way she does out of this group, and she also has such natural performing skills. It really is amazing how clear the difference between her and everyone else is in terms of skating skills. Well, Melkumova would also but unfortunately, who knows whether she'll be competing again after her injury...


Right, the older group. So of course, Liubov Rubtsova should be a quad girl. Sofia Titova probably will be training them as well but I don't see nearly as much jumping potential in her as I do in Rubtsova.

Gordeeva was practicing quads / 3As IIRC but I don't know how she's progressed...

Agreed. Lean and quite quick - two crucial things to take under consideration at this age.

Melkumova's a lot faster and more talented but also messier, Krovonosova was quite a bit cleaner even when both competed at the same time. I'm not entirely sure how it projects for the future but seeing Krivonosova's skating skill progress I feel like she at least isn't stalling with her approach. Then again I have no idea what the situation with Melkumova is, last I heard she had been recovering from an injury for months and didn't resume skating until recently.

No quads in Rubtsova? Hm, she should have everything necessary... I guess we'll wait and see on that, if they are to come, the end of this season would be when I'd expect that.

Ah, I guess I missed it. Last year she underrotated some but seems she managed to pretty much land one, and she's just 11.

No. But she tried a quad. Risk takers have increased scores -either through PCS (program itself) or in this case, on the other elements. I don't know whether this is a conscious thing, or unconscious on the part of the judges, I just know it is.

She didn't try a quad ; you must be confusing her with Dvoeglazova.

The last group for sure. Don't want to jinx anyone, but Lelekov already won his previous competition, Ilya Malshev was in Ice Age Kids and Vadim Voronov shows really good moves when he's 'on'. There's also Artem Fedotov, who was a bit unlucky with his jumps yesterday, but talented nevertheless. Looking forward to it.
