10 Questions for Nathan Chen
Q1: What’s the most important app on your iphone?
A1: Instagram. I’m an Instagram freak so I’m constantly checking it.
Q2: Most impressive scene from the Olympics?
A2: I saw it on TV. A track and field athlete got injured and his dad came in from the crowd to help him cross the finish line. (Derek Redmond (GBR) from the Barcelona Olympics)
Q3: Any rituals before a competition?
A3: I put on my left skate first. I also lace up my left skate first.
Q4: What’s your favorite skating program?
A4: There are too many, so I’ll have to pass on that question.
Q5: Do you have memories of the 2002 Olympics in your hometown of SLC?
A5: I was only 2 so I don’t have any real memories of it, but I watched all the videos afterwards. SLC was a ski town but as a result of the Games they built lots of ice rinks. I started skating that way. That’s why I think it’s good to have the Games in different cities because you can discover unexpected talents.
Q6: Who were your idols as a child?
A6: Evgeni Plushenko, whom I knew from the SLC games, and Michael Phelps.
Q7: What are your favorite foods?
A7: Pasta and sushi.
Q8: Any special skills apart from skating?
A8: Guitar. But unlike skating I’m not so good to where’d you go “Wow!” or anything.
Q9: Favorite sports teams?
A9: Utah Jazz from the NBA. I love the NBA so there are lots of players I love, like LeBron James.
Q10: What do you do to relax?
A10: I train out in California so when I’m there I go down to the beach. I can relax just watching the surfers, the waves, and the ocean.
Bonus Q: What are your future dreams?
Bonus A: I want to continue being involved with the Olympic Movement. I’m interested in medicine, so I’d like to be on the board of a medical school. Although I don’t have time to study right now.
