Determined to overcome his challenges, he will likely grow stronger. There is the possibility of a medal, or at least of being close to the podium. “My greatest rivals are, naturally, the Japanese skaters, Yuzuru and Shoma. They train hard and relentlessly. And both are mentally strong. They can skate cleanly in any kind of pressure situation. I have a lot to learn. And then there’s Patrick Chan. He’s really a great skater. And Javier Fernandez, too. The top 6 from Worlds all are. Depending on the day any of us has it in him to win. Who will come out on top in the end is something I’m looking forward to seeing myself.”
I want even those who are not figure skating fans to know of his existence. To not know of Nathan Chen would be quite regrettable. A real shame.
(Afterward)
Following the photo shoot he continued to speak, not stopping even to sip a drink. In his distinctively deep, lively, beautiful voice he rapidly answered questions without pause, giving the editorial staff a sense of his quick wittedness and cheerful demeanor. (Only when he was replying to questions concerning love was he at a loss for words.) That his high school grades are also excellent brings to mind the image of an ever cool, wise character out of a famous story. Yet on occasion he would display a seemingly sincere smile which left behind a feeling of innocence. Several hours after the interview he was to appear in Dreams On Ice. As if scattering shining stars about with his every action, he would use his princely aura to grasp the hearts of the audience members.
