Nathan Chen

As an educator I should feel bad, but I just keep saying to myself that medical school can wait! No rush.:biggrin:
I agree.
You can do the doctor thing at any age.
you can only become a once in a generation type of skater NOW.
If the future Nathan time travels back, he will tell the now Nathan Boi, just do skating, skating is the priority of everything. Boi:biggrin:

Nathan has an interview in World Figure Skating magazine, but I have not yet been able to locate a scan of it.

I cannot express enough gratitude for Shae for successfully convincing Nathan to use Nemesis--especially knowing now that Nathan wasn't initally sold on using it--and how much character and passion her choreography brought out from Nathan's skating. It's match made in heaven really. I think the choreography experience with both Shae and Lori this season has been eye-opening for him, and I hope it will help him be even more open to exploring different territories in the future.

Beautiful photography. I'm selfish though, I want the rest of quotes about his choreography. Someone hunt down the writer! ;)

Final installment of the SPUR magazine interview
Determined to overcome his challenges, he will likely grow stronger. There is the possibility of a medal, or at least of being close to the podium. “My greatest rivals are, naturally, the Japanese skaters, Yuzuru and Shoma. They train hard and relentlessly. And both are mentally strong. They can skate cleanly in any kind of pressure situation. I have a lot to learn. And then there’s Patrick Chan. He’s really a great skater. And Javier Fernandez, too. The top 6 from Worlds all are. Depending on the day any of us has it in him to win. Who will come out on top in the end is something I’m looking forward to seeing myself.”

I want even those who are not figure skating fans to know of his existence. To not know of Nathan Chen would be quite regrettable. A real shame.

(Afterward)

Following the photo shoot he continued to speak, not stopping even to sip a drink. In his distinctively deep, lively, beautiful voice he rapidly answered questions without pause, giving the editorial staff a sense of his quick wittedness and cheerful demeanor. (Only when he was replying to questions concerning love was he at a loss for words.) That his high school grades are also excellent brings to mind the image of an ever cool, wise character out of a famous story. Yet on occasion he would display a seemingly sincere smile which left behind a feeling of innocence. Several hours after the interview he was to appear in Dreams On Ice. As if scattering shining stars about with his every action, he would use his princely aura to grasp the hearts of the audience members.

More Chats With Nathan

His goal for the Olympics: “Obviously, to win.”

“I had a lot of ballet in the past, and I’m glad I have that foundation.”

“I try to make myself a whole package skater. The jumps, spins, artistry. I want to put them all together into a program the audience can enjoy.”

After being told that Shoma eats salads only once per year: “That’s funny. I eat salads quite often.”

“Just little things like that are things I put a lot of attention to. I take care of my body and do a lot of mobility and flexibility work to prevent injury. I also utilize the small muscles a lot so that I’m not training the wrong muscles.”

On the type of girl he likes: “I don’t know. Any range, honestly. Someone that’s very sweet, someone nice, someone that’s very outgoing, playful.”

Cameraman Kento Mori speaks about “Nathan in the lens.”
“Due to my profession, many times I will sense a person’s character by his aura as he enters the room, and I sensed he was a positive, healthy, honors student. Whomever he comes in contact with he will never treat with duplicity.”

"...I take care of my body and do a lot of mobility and flexibility work to prevent injury...."
I'm the most glad to see that, but really Nathan Boi, why do I think your flexibility seems deteriorated very year.

Isn’t it normal for men to lose flexibility over the years? (It’s normal for women too anyway).

I want to assume that Bridgestone associates Nathan with the "quad race" (something the commentators of the CBC said, and I thought it was a funny comment)

I miss Nathan's Corsaire suit, hopefully he'll surprise us with new suits at Skate America

Welcome on GS (and on Nathan fan page)! As they say here, post long, post often!
Congratulations for the 100 pages and many thanks to all the posters who keep us all updated on Nathan's journey.

^^^I just bought new tires yesterday! I should have bought Bridgestone to support Nathan! ;)

Per Hersh, Nathan has been working on his college applications.

And/or Nathan is living up to his end of his Kellogg's sponsorship deal. ;)

Don't get me wrong. I love Simone, and I hope that Nathan and she have formed a genuine friendship. I really enjoyed seeing them together.

But wouldn't surprise me if certain deals require athletes to use their social media accounts to promote sponsors on certain occasions or with a certain frequency or whatever. (Nothing wrong with that. Kellogg's produced some great content with the Nathan/Simone/surprise shoot and it would be natural to want to get the biggest bang for its promotional buck.)
