there are so many risky edge work in Caravan (like Nathan is drunk, sleep walking). on top of that a full-on performance. really intricate and difficult program.

The caravan looks really good to me, much fuller than the sun valley version already.

if when competition elements are added in, it can still feel this good. it will be a masterpiece. And we can say "Goodbye Nemesis, hello Caravan"

and this is the reason, why I support a simple T-shirt if cannot figure out costumes. because a short sleeve T-shirt is visually compensating and flattering Nathan's shape and lines than his current LoA costumes. although a cleverly designed real costume would be better.

I thought the black t shirt he wore for Tu Sei made him look more filled out compared to the blue Land of All shirt.

Nathan needs a broader, loser upper body clothes design to compensate for his relatively rounded, narrow shoulders comparing his lower body (thick thigh;)). yet, the upper body cloth cannot be bunched up to his neck as well. thus I recommended lower neck and collar in the back design. Also that is the same reason why his Vera Brush Stroke (with horizontal patterns) looks great on him. Also the reason a short-sleeves T-shirt looked better, which also can open up his upper body and balance out his over-all proportion.

the blue LoA show costume has 3 issues, 1, it makes his upper body visually too long (two distinct color created a very obvious waist line and it is quite low) thus makes his legs looks short and thick (@nathanchengif also recommended a similar color (black) upper body cloth to his black pants to elongate the line. that is why his black Nemesis shirt is always a fan fav, and the reason how Shoma's costume make him look great.
2, the shoulder design is a fit design, narrower than a regular T-shirt. visually it will make Nathan's shoulders narrow yet bulky. maybe this is contra-intuitive, but a looser fit (broader shoulder fit) will be much better and effective.
3, covered too much of Nathan's neck, collar bone and back, which is NOT flattering to his specific body shape. covers too much of Nathan's beautiful arms. that is the reason why black nemesis shirt is a fan fav again. And a simple short sleeve T-shirt could create similar visual shape like black nemesis shirt.

all this has nothing to do with decorations, details etc. of costume design. but to figure out a visually flattering shape for Nathan's specific body shape.

the Tu Sei costume's neck scarf is not necessary, but it is not that big a issue.

Nathan even looks better in his Blue T-shirt tucked in black pants Shape of You costume than his blue LoA show costume

Nathan's on-ice persona is modern, cool etc. thus a T-shirt really is not that bad of an idea.

loose fit black training clothes, although covers his arms, but it is all black (continuous line) and shoulder area looks better

brush stroke Vera uniform, although covers his arms and neck again, but broadens his shoulder and upper body also continuous line, visually still great

little white collar Vera uniform, lower back design(visually lower cos the white collar not really low cut), such beautiful back and squared shoulder lines which really showcased Nathan's wing spread

black nemesis, V neck, loose fit, showed Nathan's lower arms and veins/muscle lines on it, Like a Eagle

short sleeve dark grey T shirt. broadened Nathan's upper body (dark grey is also a shade lighter than black, visually it enlarges but still in the same color tone thus still continues line). balanced lower body really well, Nathan looks cute, casual but very hot and cool in it.

There's a funny part at 34m43s where they talk about how Alina is so in love with Japan that she uses chopsticks while the other foreign skaters use only knives and forks. Nevermind that Nathan probably uses chopsticks natively, but they also show Mariah using a spoon to drink her soup(?). LOL

I know, LOL! I know they're trying to prove Alina loves Japanese culture, but Nathan preferring not to use chopsticks is a bit a of a stretch.

Actually I don't think his costumes are that bad, of course not great like most other skaters who were probably wearing their final costumes. The LOA costume actually has a diagonal asymmetrical cut at he bottom. I think it's a simple and common men's costume design that's supposed to create some movements below waist line. It might not be the best fit but I still want to give him some credits for the effort. Plus the blue color actually looks great in the dark lighting and matches the music and atmosphere. The caravan white shirt does have a poor fit, but the vest looks ok, overall it looks better with shirts tucked.

I think all of Nathan's white shirts need to go, if he likes the simple and clean designs, work with costume designers, invest on a few "basics" that he can proudly wear again and again, like the nemesis black shirt.

Every time we have these costume discussions I can't resist picturing Nathan in an updated shiny shirt (Stereo Hearts style), made from proper stretchable athletic wear fabric. ;)

Have to say this before on the go again:

Both costumes for caravan and LoA need to go!!!!!!

Yes, Caravan costume has to go. The shirt is horrid, and even that vest is no good, because it bunches up. Look at the gifs of the opening moments of Caravan. The vest bunching distracts me from Nathan's hair, and Nathan's hair should never have to share the spotlight with anything but his skating.

Actually I am now on the fence about Land of All costume. I still have several objections, but I'm afraid the change will be for the worse, so maybe it's better to stick with the devil I know?

That said, I would be very happy if the following modifications were made to the shirt:
1)shorten it all over, even if maintaining the left right asymmetry means a risk of flashing abs. (it's also possible to add on a blue panel of the same color underneath, like with 2016 Nationals Saint-Saens top)
2)shorten the sleeves at least a few inches so I can see his hands more easily
3)sew on appropriate Star Fleet rank designations on the sleeve cuffs

I'm kidding about #3, but I'm serious about 1 and 2. I would even accept the way it loosely flops around. If you look at final pose you can see the shirt pulled here and there and no longer properly aligned on him. Despite my costume gripes, I already watch Land of All from Osaka obsessively, and now all I want is for the commentators to remain silent and the jumps to be properly landed.

When I saw him on the ice in that LOA costume, my first reaction was "oh, he is actually wearing a costume (not a random t tshirt or a white shirt)". I just want to applaud his effort :). This is not to say that I don't prefer a simple tshirt.

My favorite thing Nathan has worn recently is the black short sleeve with leather and lacing detail at The Ice - can he please bring that home with him

Caravan ‘uniform’ - the black pants don’t fit well either and can see his underwear (at least at Sun Valley)

I think Nathan said the blue LoA shirt isn’t his final costume?

A bit crazy that Nathan has ‘an amazing body ... his body is perfect for skating’ (to quote Doug Haw from TSL interview) but he can wear not very flattering clothing ...

I prefer his practice wear to his actual costumes, temporary or otherwise. That's why I asked if he did any full run throughs in Sun Valley. ;)

oatmella, I can do without the lacing up leather and other such fuss. I only like that it's short-sleeved and not bunchy.
Good posture can compensate for having imperfect build. Bad posture can erase any 'natural' advantage.
