I just watched the whole victory ceremony, after having only seen snippets before. Wow, Nathan looked even worse than I thought.
Eyes glazed over, trouble swallowing, obviously congested breathing through his mouth, struggling to stay present and keep his eyes open... I almost felt cold symptoms myself just from watching him.
What's interesting, when filming the US team, the cameraman/editor chose to show several close-up shots of Nathan's face of all people, and only him, when he was the one looking the least happy and clearly suffering. Weird choice.
Practices and skating those two programs at WTT really were the final straw it seems. The way I understand it, being an elite athlete is already hard on your immune system, but if you then don't even get enough recovery... as I've said before, it's amazing how he did this season, managing a double workload, but I don't think it's sustainable for a longer period of time.
I wish he'd follow Raf's wish and did no more than one more semester at Yale.
Then again, everyone I know has dealt with several bouts of colds this winter season, so who knows, maybe it's not unusual and he would have gotten sick this much anyway, Yale or not.![]()

Nathan feel better today.Do you have the link to the ceremony?
Love Nathan Chen, you guys are great, thanks for all the content and info.
Quick heads up in Victoria Sinitsina's instagram stories (last story, she has a bunch of posts there) you can see Nathan skating in front of her at Gala rehearsals in his Nike black and white sweater as they circle center ice.

But at the expense of his health and demands of school, just for a semi serious team competition? It’s quite mind boggling.
He also got sick quite a bit last year - before Nationals and then after the Olympics - so this seems to be a trend. But certainly his new schedule/that quick turnaround after Worlds/those SOI shows and then returning to Japan for WTT. I was also really surprised he did WTT - but I think the prize money is pretty substantial and performing in Japan is always a good time.
And I agree sheetz - he needs a good RELAXING vacation!!!!
I just can't imagine him performing next to me under current condition. And SOI tour shortly after?:noshake:
