She sang the entire national anthem, and stayed on the ice for more than a half-hour, clutching her medal. The only time she let it go was to grab a Japanese flag.

Great article for Shizuka , terrible for Sasha. She is an Olympic silver medalist and that is something to be proud of, and something her country should be proud of... not a sign of "squandered potential." She earned silver in these 4 minutes of her life and gold in many others. Good for her.

Well I must say I'm really proud of SC for holding on and NOT GIVING UP after falling twice. She HAD to know it was over at that point, yet she kept fighting. Time after time I see skaters just fall apart or lose their composure after even a slight mistake. Not Cohen, though. I think that was the difference between silver and bronze (Irina had a relatively good performance...then she doubled a jump and fell, and that was it). I was still shocked that Irina wound up with bronze, though. If SC truly just gave up, Irina would have the silver instead.
