Nobunari Oda

Nobu hasn’t competed internationally since 2013, and as a result does not have the technical minimum scores to be qualified for 4CCs. I don’t think his goal was ever returning to international competition.
He could "easily" get the tech scores if he was assigned to an international competition soon, it's not even the Worlds tech score; I think that Pairs second substitutes don't have the tech minimum yet.
Do you think that he learned his first Quadruple jump, even in combination, and retrieved his Triple Axel, several years of endeavours and sacrifices, without wishing an international competition? It may be, you may know him better, but I'm surprised.

Congratulations to Nobunari Oda, who arrives four overall with 234.68, although his Solo 4T was underrotated (but he didn't fall anywhere!)

Nobu landed 4Ts and 4T-3T combinations back in the day – just not in the SP at Nationals, where he either popped or fell. For instance, at his last Nationals back in 2013 he popped his 4T in the short into a triple, but successfully completed a 4T-3T in his FS. This time it was sort of the other way round – he landed a gorgeous 4T-3T combination in his SP, but fell on an underrotated 4T in the FS.

With that said, congratulations to Nobu, on showing the youngsters how it's done! His short was one of the highlights of the entire men's competition. It was so obvious that he simply enjoyed being there, entertaining his home crowd, showing his family (who he said was in the audience) what he's still capable of and reaping the fruits of his hard work. Because hard work it must have been to get his jumps back to that level at 37 – just awesome! Even with his fall on the 4T in the FS - his 4T-3T, his solo 3Axels and most of his other triples were as good as they had been back in the day. He says his knees and joints are done, but from the way he skated, you wouldn't know it.

Regarding international assignments: Apart from the fact that he doesn't fulfil any of the previously published criteria for Worlds (for that he would have needed to medal) and only one for 4CC (top 10 at Nationals) (whereas those who were chosen fulfil multiple criteria), he had already hinted that he wishes to retire after these Nationals (source: https://www.nikkansports.com/premium/sports/figure/news/202412210001328.html) and might have communicated this to the federation beforehand, so that he might not have been taken into consideration, even if he had been on the podium.

Oh, thank you! I had understood that he meant to retire at the end of this season.

Congratulation to Nobunari Oda who's second after the Short Program at the National Winter Festival, he landed (albeit not perfectly) his Quadruple Toeloop and his Triple Axel, I wish him the best for the Free Skating!

Nobunari Oda is going to skate his probably last competitive Free Skate in maybe quarter of an hour, I wish him his best skate!
Here's the streaming:

I saw this on my TL and couldn't help but share - so cute!

An event was held today to celebrate the grand opening of the ‘Moomin Valley Skating Rink’. 🥳
Demonstration skating by professional figure skater Nobunari Oda and photo session with the Moomins!

Reito, Haier's mascot, tells us that today June 9th is Egg Day because of the shape of the digits (Indian digits). I don't know that Nobunari Oda has any sponsoring contract with them, but this picture reminds me when Nobunari Oda skated a bit with that hat in the shape and colours of a sunny-side-up egg:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any footage, or even picture of Nobunari Oda with this hat.

As Daisuke is taking a break from his co-hosting duties on variety show Poka Poka for three weeks due to the ongoing Hyoen rehearsals, Nobu will be his stand-in on July 3rd:

A couple of weeks back, when Dai was co-hosting, Nobu was also on Poka Poka as a guest together with his wife Mayu.

Nobu was in the audience at the last Hyoen performance and bumped into fellow Hyoen performer (in 2019 and 2021) Kazuki Namioka 😊:

I went to see "Hyoen"! I happened to bump into Namioka-san when he called out to me! This year's production was also amazing!

Nobu's emotional ig post following his participation in "The MELT" (a very well received new show, featuring a cast comprised of Hyoen alumni, that took place May 2-5):

All 12 performances completed! 💖

This was my first time collaborating with Massu from NEWS on the ice ⛸️

Massu’s rendition of ‘Akatsuki’ was absolutely brilliant 💖

He sings brilliantly, skates brilliantly (he could compete in competitions), and his banter is hilarious – he’s the best 😂😂

I was so happy to meet both the current and former members of Hyoen 💖💖

Skating ‘Basara’ with Dai-chan, Arakawa-san and Rio-kun
brought back memories of 2017, and I got a bit teary-eyed at the final performance

but that’s a secret just between us 😂😂😂😂

It’s such a blessing that even nine years on, there’s still a place for us to skate

Thank you so much 😭😭🙏🙏🙏

Hoping for the day we can skate together again, with Love 💖
