Seems like Finland will only send one senior skater to the new competition in Iceland in October, looking at the Fed page that @TT_Fin linked in the other thread. A bigger delegation in the junior field though, so that is good. I was hoping for more senior skaters, I hope this doesn´t mean that there will be too few skaters for ranking points. Mia Risa Gomez and Linnea Kilsand will go as seniors for Norway, and there will be a couple of junior skaters as well.

Btw, the Finnish page says the competition is called Northern Lights Trophy, but the Norwegian Fed it says Ice and Fire, the latter was the name they announced it with the ISU calendar. It must be the same competition, it´s the same date. Did they perhaps change the name of competition? Btw, I find both names cool, but Northern Lights Trophy sounds more appealing.

There is only a few weeks until the competition so maybe the entries will be published soon. It seems there is not a thread for this competition her on GS.

Edit: Oh there is a thread now, I must have missed it because of the change of the name, so it seems they changed the name after all.

Ok, hold your hats people... There is not 5...

But 6 ice dance team in Sweden :jaw::jaw::jaw:

Apparently Sonja Werner has teamed up with a skater named Isak (don´t know last name), read this on X, but this post from the skating club confirms that Sonja is training on ice dance. They will most likely be juniors, as Sonja is around 16 years old.

When you thought you heard about them all, there is a another team rising from nowhere:laugh::laugh:

Sonja and Isak are on the entry list for Junior Ice Dance at the Tallinn Trophy 😊

Yes, I think it was announced in the new teams thread earlier.

I was lucky enough to watch them at Northern Lights Trophy stream last weekend, they did not compete, but showed their long program on Sunday. They looked pretty good already, I think they have a good chance to get the mins for Euros. Good SBS jumps, first was a 3T, good, and then they did 2S-1Axel-Axel sequence I think, they were pretty synchronized. I feel certain that one of their throws was actually a triple and it was landed cleanly, and the other was a double. Death spiral and lifts looked pretty good for a new team. Double twist I think.

If you compare them to the Swedish team, I would actually say these look better technically. But let´s see.

They are scheduled for two upcoming competitions in the upcoming weeks, I think I read somewhere that Manuel couldn´t compete until mid. November because of country change quarantine, and that make sense with the competitions they are scheduled for.

Ah, that's great to hear, so excited to see them at their first "official" competitions.
They are scheduled for two upcoming competitions in the upcoming weeks,
For everyone's information, the two competitions are the NRW Trophy (13.11 - 17.11.) and CS PGE Warsaw Cup (20.11. - 24.11.). Both usually have a free livestream, so everyone should be able to watch their international debuts.

Yep, Valesi/Piazza last competed internationally at GP China in 2023 (10.11. - 11.11.2023) so they are entering the earliest possible competitions to give them a better chance at getting minimums.
(This is off-topic, but Vouillamoz/Bouvart (FRA -> SUI) are doing the same - Including the same competition schedule.)

Great to have an Icelandic pair! And I love the icelandic language written in their instagram post. Related to nordic languages exept for finnish. I wonder how much Manuel understands :) Or does he have an Icelandic connection?

But it's so sad that John and Greta seem to have problems developing. Was it Greta's horrible injury that set them back or John growing tall? I haven't seen much of their performances this season, but doesn't John always have problems with the jumps?

Finnish women, about all of them, have struggled at qualifications for nats. First Emmi was not on the list, then her name appeared later but this morning there was WD next to her name, so it means no nationals for Emmi if the Fed does not allow her to take part in case reason not taking part in qualifications is injury or illness. For Nella it is first competition of the season after injuries and illnesses. Olivia did not take part. I hope they are at their best next weekend.

The new Id pair had got 33,51 TES. They are developing fast now. Of course nationals are nationals, but in Finland in recent years the result has been close what skaters usually get internationally.

Some updates on the Norwegian senior ladies that seems to become a real thriller who will get the Euros spot this year.

Linnea Kilsand seems to be back in shape, and Mia Risa Gomez seems to be struggling so far this season, and then we have Oda Havgar who just started doing some senior competitions and is getting the edge on the judges on components, and her jumps is finally starting to look stronger/more consistent.

Oda just placed 5th in Denkova-Staviski Cup, and posted so far the highest score of the Norwegian seniors so far this season with 155.89 points. Unfortunately she is missing the Euro mins by 2 points :( She always seems to have issues with her FS, and today she had unusual spin mistake that probably cost her the mins.

As far as I know, she isn´t listed on more international comps before Christmas, so I don´t see her getting Euros this season in time.

That is a real pity, because of today she would be on the top of the list regarding the best two combined technical scores, which is how selection is done according to the Feds document:

The standings of today (two best combined technical scores of the season)

1) Oda Havgar* = 134,22 (61 Diamond Spin + 73,22 Denkova-Staviski Cup) - Doesn´t have the mins
2) Mia Risa Gomez = 126 (62 Tayside Trophy + 63 Northern Lights Trophy)
3) Kaia Kleven* = 120,37 (65,37 Norgescup 1 + 55 Northern Lights Trophy) - Doesn´t have the mins
4) Linnea Kilsand = 116,43 (43 Tayside Trophy + 74 Northern Lights Trophy)

Mia and Linnea is listed to compete at Tallinn Trophy next week, so this competition will be important for selections. And there is also Nationals the first week of December, the competitions will also count for selections so things can still change up until Nationals.

I think Linnea will probably improve her total score after next week, she only had two competitions this season and had a bad first competition. I´m very unsure what is up with Mia because she had a better SP at Northern Lights Trophy but a lot of mistakes in her FS. She was injured after Worlds and has been changing club, coaches, started university and moved away from her home town this summer, so she is probably still adjusting. She is now training in the same club as Linnea.

I would not be surprised if Linnea got the Euros spot this season, but Mia is probably still going to get the Worlds spot as I don´t think Linnea will be able to get the Worlds mins this season.

Edit: I looked more into the ranking document, and it seems for selections for the international competitions only international scores count despite what I thought. So that means the competition next week will probably decide who get the Euros spots since it´s the last one before Euros. I think when they include domestic scores in the two best scores it counts towards selections for Nationals (which is probably only relevant in the lower categories since there are so few skaters at the higher categories)

I checked the document about selections for Euros, and it seems the selections will be done in week 50, which is around right after Nationals.

It seems the ranking list is only one of few factors

The selection will be based on:

1) You need the minimums (obviously) - Only Linnea and Mia has them so far

2) Have the minimum requirements from the Fed for Championships, for EC it´s required you have a: 2A, 5 triple jumps - 3 different triple jumps, one triple/double combo, at least 3 different combos, at least 3 spins on level 4 and other spins on level 3, minimum total score of the season 125 - Linnea and Mia has all the requirements I think, i´m a bit unsure if Oda has 5 triple jumps - I guess if they mean SP + FS she will fill the requirements, 3 different combos - I guess if you count in axel sequences? They all have level 4 spins. Minimum score of 125: They all have them.

3) Possibly have achieved a SP score that makes it possible to make the final, it says 50p for women and 65p for men.

Actually nor Mia and Linnea has scored over 50p in the SP this season, but come close to. Only Oda with her score of 57 points this weekend, but again - she doesn´t have the minimums. Anyways it´s says should - but it´s not a requirement, I guess though Linneas highest SP score of 49 points will help her in the selections

4) Ranking list will be considered in the selections if there is more skaters which fills the requirements.

5) Nationals result can count

6) International results and placement through the season counts, so I guess the total score, not only the the best technical score

Oda wauld have had a strong case here if she had gotten the minimums, with that high SP score, and highest total score of them - and they are basically tied on the other requirements, particular if Linnea and Mia is unable to score over 50 points next week.

Based on the results so far, it seems like Linnea would be selected if it was based on the results so far - Mia needs to score over 49 points next week in the SP, and then possible score above 144 points (given that Linnea doesn´t score above her). And then place above Linnea at Nationals.

Quite a few Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish skaters will be competing at Tallinn Trophy, which starts Monday with the Advanced Novices.

There are free Livestreams. Links to them are in the OPs.
It´s a free live stream for the whole competition the whole week? That is good news.

And you are right, they are sending a bunch of Norwegian skaters to this competitions in more categories. However I didn´t know they already started tomorrow, thanks for the reminder!

Feels like a miracle that the former Hartwall arena, the venue for Worlds 1999 and 2017, has now finally been sold to Finnish real estate investors. The deal was made yesterday but it still needs the approval of the EU members and Finnish authorities because the sellers are oligarchs. The process might still take several months. Such a relief that the buyers are reliable and have no ties to Russia. Hopefully skaters, hockey players, event organizers etc get to use it soon and the arena will be taken care of again.

After Linnea having quite good skate at Tallinn, it is very tough who will get the women.s spots for Euros. This weeks GP and nationals solve it.
Probably the rest of the skaters who are supposed to be at the last to CS competitions including Emmi are out, if they do not give Emmi opportunity to take part in nationals because she has been injured and that is the reason she has not taken part in qualifications. They gave that opportunity to Viveca once, and the rest is history, she got the spot, was 8th in Euros and got for Finland 2 spots. It was interesting that Viveca was only 4th at nats, but because of better scores got the spot. So I think Filnand's system is working. On that time only one scores were enough, but some years ago the Fed changed that one score must be from CS or GP and two best scores will count. I understand it, it courages skaters also to take part in CS if they don't have GP spots. So the spots will be between Janna, Nella, Olivia and Linnea. I thought Janna had already confirmed the spot, but maybe not. The others are able to reach her scores if they have a good day.

I am not sure if this is geoblocked, but here is an article about Nella and there is some sentences about other skaters too. If you are very sensitive, warning: there is a picture about Nella's broken nad fixed toe some years ago. In the middle of it is Nella's 3A attempt. She does not manage to do it, but tries it without harness. If you want to read whole story, you must click next to go forward. 6th is the broken toe if you want to skip it and 9th is the video about 3a attempt. Nella's 3A attempt As it is national TV channel's video article it may be geoblocked. Let me know if it is so, I will delete this capture.

I wish there would be Worlds once in my lifetim at Nokia Arena in Tampere. As the arena is in the middle of the city and there are plenty of hotels so near it takes only a few minute walk. I like the Hartwall Arena's, today Helsinki Arena's venue more inside but the location of Nokia Arena is great. And my son lives in Tampere.
