Nikolaj Majorov is switching to Ice Dance

I'm happy that Nikolaj stays on instead of quitting. Hope this works out for his partner, him and his back!

"I have always admired Daisuke Takahashi who chose to change from singles to dance"

He has already a partner, but does not tell who she is. Any clues? Yes, I am curious.

I thought it was the person he tagged in the bottom of the post? Maria Jangbro, or maybe she was just the photographer of the photo 😅

Anyways, I never imagined he would be doing Ice Dance, but given the injury i´m glad he is not giving up on his passion and wants to try something new. It will be very interesting to see Nikolaj as an Ice Dancer. I think there is styles that will suit him very well. A bit sad he has to end his single career though. But happy he can continue and make the Swedish team stronger. With Andreas and Casper in men there is still a good men field, and many younger also.

Just finishing some paper work before they make an official announcement, according to the fed.

I did some sleuthing and found a candidate, but "paper work" suggests a skater from another country? If so I'm definitely wrong and the person I had in mind isn't anyone well-known anyway. I'm curious too, and honestly still in shock about this

Well, my first thought/feeling was that he had paired with a skater from Norway, but maybe it was just a random feeling.

The question is he paired with a former single skater or with someone that actually has done ice dance before?

There is not many Norwegian candidates who has experience with ice dance, it would either be Maria Bjørkli or Milla Ruud Reitan.

Actually Maria has been in Norway in around 2 months now, and James is in the US. It has made me wonder if they will continue or split, because 2 months break is really long, at the other side - they have been apart long times before and I know there is issues with funding, so it could be that Maria has to be home to work and wants to spend time with her family before going back to the US. On the other hand, if the funding issues hasn´t solved itself, it would make sense if Maria was looking for something closer to home and possible better funding.
But it´s quite hard to picture Maria and Nikolaj as team, I think they might have a bit different style. Also i´m hoping that this isn´t a likely scenario, because I want Norway to still have a ice dance team, but of course - if it´s not possible for Maria and James to continue to skate because of the funding issues, it would be nice if she turned out to be Nikolajs partner.

Milla Ruud Reitan skates for Germany now with Nikita Remeshevskiy, but they have been skating for 2-3 seasons now and only had one small competition. I´m not sure if there has been injuries involved or if the fed hasn´t been supporting them. They were going to skate in JGP but was replaced with another team two seasons ago. With the Ice Dance field in Germany and the funding issues I really don´t think they have a chance to be amongst the top team. Milla came from singels skating, and she moved to Germany to try ice dance. If she wants to continue and go somewhere, Nikolaj and Sweden would be a good option, and very close to her hometown Oslo. But I think a release from Germany is perhaps not that easy? Edit: Because they havn´t been skating internationally the whole last season, that might not be a problem at all?

Possible single skaters: Well I noticed Silja Urang was in Stockholm during easter, together with her mother. She retired from singels skating last year or the year before. She was a wonderful elegant skater, suitable for ice dance. She had big troubles with rotating her jumps. If she wanted to return, ice dance would make perfect sense. Her mother have seen very supportive of her career and Silja had programs choreographed by Benoit Richaud, so based on that I don´t think funding will be an issue. Could me possible. If Norway has rules about releases, she would be good to go since she hasn´t been skating for a season or two.

From Swedish skaters my first thought was Emilie Ling - i´m not sure if´s because they both skated to disturbed, but Emelie would be a very good ice dancer I think, but I hope she continues as single skater, I like her skating.

Finland has a lot of talented women in single skating, they often skate very elegant as well. The field is very though there if you don´t have the most difficult triples, so I could imagine a skater with only a few triples but nice skating skills go to Ice Dance. Also some of them might be related to Sweden and it might be easier with paper work? Just a thought.

Well, this is all very exciting, I hope we will know soon. You make a very good point about paper work, like why couldn´t he just say it right away?

In the article, it said Nikolaj would start working with programs this weekend. Maybe he will show us then!

Maia Sørensen from Denmark could also be another option! According to his Instagram, he was in Copenhagen in March and Maia Sørensen commented that his pictures "turned out great", it seems like they spent some time together.
Doesn´t have to mean anything.

I´m also back with Milla Ruud Reitan as a very possible candidate. After stalking Nikolajs Instagram, I noticed Milla had liked his recent posts, and I went to Millas profile and he had liked hers as well. Looking further into this, Nikolaj doesn´t follow any active Norwegian skaters, so how would he even know Milla?! I also noticed Nikolaj is following what seems to be Millas parents!

Nikita is on Ice Partner Search (Link), so this is truly a very real possibility.

One of the few things actually positive about the German fed (and yes, there aren't very many positives apart from this) is that they have no issue with releasing skaters (and just as little of an issue with allowing non-German skaters the opportunity to represent Germany). Julia Sauter, Joti Polizoakis, Asaf Kazimov, and even Aljona Savchenko were all seemingly released quickly and without much hassle, so I don't think Milla would have any issues on that front.

I didn´t know Nikita was on Ice Partner Search, well in that case it seems highly possible it could be Milla since she also has a bit experience with ice dance now.

Wow, that would be really cool!

If Milla Ruud Reitan is the partner, I think this describes well what Nikolaj said about having the same personality (on the ice?), they seem both to be a bit energetic and like to perform. I think they can be a good match!

I could not find any clips from Nikita and Millas only international competition, but they shared a Instagram reel in December:

Finland national team season 2023-2024
(ehdollinen) after Emmi's name means she has an opportunity to improve her skills. After Darja's and Matias H's name (uusi) means new. Both of them are born 09/2007 according to isuresults, so they both will skate in juniors, Matias H. in men and Darja T. in women. There are now many young men, I like it. After getting a place in national team means more opportunities. Finns are often late bloomers - and so are many other men - so I think situation in men is now quite good. I have seen Matias H. going to another level at this season, and expected him to climb to national team, so I am interested to see him in the future.

say what? i didn't see this coming

No news yet about Nikolajs new partner, but Milla has now changed her bio on Instagram from "Ice Dancer for Team Germany" to only Ice Dancer and removed the part about Team Germany.

Not that is any surprise since Nikita is on a partner search, so we already knew there was a split there, but this new information confirms two things: 1) She most likely don´t skate for Germany anymore 2) She is most likely still an active Ice Dancer since she didn´t remove that part in her bio about being a Ice Dancer. So regardless if Nikolaj is her new partner or not, it seems she has got a new partner and is representing a new country but it yet has to be announced. She is not currently searching for any new partner on the search page, which indicates she already has a new partner.

Since she just changed her bio, I hope it´s a sign that things are moving forward with paper work and all.

Speaking of that Sweden will have skaters in every discipline...This weekend a skater from Norway was at the pairs seminar in Bergamo and seemed to have a great seminar. For the first time she tried a double throw!

Well there is nothing confirmed, but the club shared a story that Sofie was one of 2 girls who was able do a single twist at the seminar. So that seems promising. Also, she seems to have been training some while with Mark Magyar from Hungary looking into the clubs earlier posts?!

This has totally be going under my radar. I´m super excited about this!!

Edit: Ok, so it seems Mark is there as a coach, and that Sofie is searching for a partner. I hope she will have luck finding a partner soon!

Emmi has posted some triple jump clips on her IG account, so I think she should make it back to national team. The jumps look good. I suppose those jumps are done recently.

Could ID and pairs be included to Nordics if several Nordic countries has both teams? As they have been open, maybe there would be some other than Nordic pairs/Id pairs too. But it means the Nordic pairs should also be interested. It is often the last chance to get the TES for worlds, so why not in seniors?
