Patrick Chan

I just watched the 2013 TEB FS and the JO FS back to back. What a sublime experience! Such GORGEOUS skating. In my opinion, the new FS is up a level or two in interpretation and movement from Four Seasons, and before JO, I didn't think that was possible. Whenever we think Patrick can't get any better, he does. WOW!!! Watching the JO FS again almost brought me to tears.:love::love:

It's Lunar New Year so I guess Chinese communities all over the wall are celebrating this occasion. I bet PChiddy is enjoying Lunar New Year as well.

Question about the Japan Open FS: Why was the score so "low" (for his standards)? I'm not all that knowledgeable about skating honestly so this probably appears to be a stupid question. Just confused because he seemed basically clean to me?

I'm looking at the protocols, was he doing a tamer jump layout or something here?

This program had a lower technical difficulty than Patrick's usual, e.g. he did only one quad instead of two, and a couple of 2Ts instead of 3Ts in the combos, thus a lower BV and TES. The total score was still really high though not near the highest he is capable of.

Traditionally skaters still competing in ISU events do not perform very well at Japan Open because this is pre season and they debut their new LPs. This time around, Patrick went with a lower BV but a clean and beautiful performance. He won decisively as others faltered with much lower BV and TES. I am sure he will raise the difficulty level when he competes next season. This JO was a very positive experience for Patrick and I hope he will keep the relaxed mindset.

Thanks a lot Skatingfan4ever for your well written article. Patrick skated two clean programs at TEB 2013 and earned a world record total score, which is still the highest as of today, and most enjoyable too.

I was so bored of watching JW because heck... The judging makes me sick. I watched Patrick's FS in 2012 instead. I don't know why but it's still my most favorite FS from him. Oh and his edges...
His TEB programs were magical, too. I'm glad he put it out there, despite that it's not at Olympic. He's still the one.

One of the questions in the interview: What does the future hold for Patrick Chan?

A: A lot of great things. I'm 24 this year. Coming out of Sochi, I considered retirement for sure. But I quickly realized I'm 24 and still relatively young in figure skating world…
Looking at my health and my physical shape I thought I could definitely go to another Olympics possibly. Of course I can't rush to that moment. I can't be anxious. I have to take it year by year.
Next year I'll come back starting in June and start training competitive programs as opposed to show programs and see where it brings me.

If Plushenko can make it to the 4th Olympic with his sheer will, I believe PChiddy can do, especially with his skating skill.

Anyways, this is his thighs: http://blog-imgs-61-origin.fc2.com/g/i/n/ginmaku1982/61_20131024213123fb8.jpg

The WC was not the same without him.

The whole season was not the same without him.

And two different World Champions in two Worlds without him. Shows how difficult it is to repeat as WC these days. Patrick is one of the only two repeating champions since COP and the only 3-time champion, consecutively. I'm looking forward to him accumulate more Gold medals.
