Patrick Chan

I love that we finally have some fun SP.:cheer:

We had Take 5. And quite a few fun show programs.

Now I am wondering about his GP choices, SC is a must for Patrick I assume? I hope he will do SC and CoC.

Patrick has never done COC because it is back to back with SC, and so far to travel. He will likely never do COC unless there is a schedule change which usually only happens to late GP events when the GPF will be held at the same location. He has not done NHK because there is usually a seeded top 3 skater from Japan.

Lol It comes from emissions tests on cars and the phrase 'your mileage may vary' in car reports being used to show that the petrol /gas consumption in a car may vary across different people. Then it may became an Internet phrase to confirm that you realised what you were saying was just your opinion and someone else may feel differently. it isn't something you would hear when people talk. It is very much online slang.

:o: um okay, then, better not memorize as an useful/practical English idiom/phrase for me, I guess... Thanks a lot for giving me more details on the phrase, TheGrandSophy and sorry for OT everyone.

Back to topic. Gooo Patrick!!! :yay:

Patrick heard you and will be skating to a fun SP with lyrics.

I can hardly wait.
Me either!!! :) Who cares about scores, who cares about placements. (Well, I still care a little, but MUCH less than I did before Sochi). I am simply BEYOND THRILLED to see more competitive programs from him. This is gonna sound super cheesy, but I feel like the Olympic monster is off my back as well as Patrick's. Now I'm like, "Yay, Patrick is coming back, let's see how well he can do" rather than "Oh, he's my favorite skater, so I want him to win everything." Whatever else he wins will be wonderful, but regardless, his ACTUAL SKATING will be there to entrance me.

I wonder what lyrics he will choose for his SP. I honestly have no guesses. Thoughts?

that's how i feel too… i wanted him to win so badly in sochi but now i am just thrilled to see him skate again.

You are very welcome. :)

But fan at CoC will love to see him there, as you know he is of Chinese decedent. What a pity...

Well, he did 2010 GPF in China, winning with a clean POTO with quads after debuting and falling at that year's GP events, a prelude to his record smashing 2011 World Championships win.

It's 5 years ago. Coming back there he will certainly be much welcomed.

Re-watching his performances from the past and I am in pure awe...his skating is just soooooooooo smooth! Compare to most of the male single skaters competing these days he is definitely still on top. Here's an awesome POTO performance, if you can stomach the music after this season :)

Patrick's is the definitive POTO program for me. That and Aranjuez are the most memorable choreography and performances I've watched umpteen times, one passionate and the other ethereal and sublime.

Sigh. I miss Patrick. So looking forward to his next competition. Japan Open?

and his 4 seasons :) is he still going to do japan open? or would he be waiting to compete at GPs?

I appreciate his skills and performances with the 4 Seasons but I like other choreos more.

Japan Open is invitational and Patrick is a perpetual invitee, even last year when he was not competing in ISU events. He is well appreciated in Japan, even invited as a Gala performer at their Nationals.

i guess we will find out soon

the point i was making is that japan open is usually in the early fall... and depending which GP Patrick gets, he may not be able to go.... He won't be seeded this year, so he may have to go wherever he is invited for the GP.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Jason Brown were to be invited or even Nam.... again depending on availabilities.... Patrick hasn't gone every single year..... we have even seen "old" Jeffrey Buttle going there last year, probably because American skaters were doing GP assignment as a priority.

Hi everyone, I've been searching for a video of his Sochi FS performance, but I couldn't find it :scowl: Can anyone help me?

JO invites a combination of competing and retired skaters. Jeff and Joannie are both frequent invitees from N America, as is Plushenko from Europe. Skate America is the earliest GP and one Patrick normally does not participate in.

He will most likely compete at SC as usual though now there will a 1-3 seeded Man there as well. Nam could be the 4-6 seeded Canadian skater, especially if Patrick won't be there. In the unlikely event of Patrick not competing in SC, I'd love to see him at COC for a change as a rare opportunity. Heck, even NHK as a non-seeded. It is even possible to do both since NHK is moved to be the last GP this year. If only Skate Canada would let him.

haha... i know how JO works :) the truth is that we won't know if Patrick does JO this year until it's announced ... no point speculating as there are even more variables this year than previous ones.
