Patrick Chan

I look forward to seeing Patrick's journey again today. I know he'll give us his very best! :agree:

Just started part 2 of my 4CC blog post series, and I found a few pics from earlier today and yesterday of Patrick and Eric, and Patrick and Han Yan.

ONGOING: Patrick Chan 2017 Four Continents: Part 2

for the sake of a couple of you who have told me they like the reports on Patrick's skating before watching..

Patrick tonight, didn't skate his best... it wasn't COC.. or Nationals... but it also wasn't as bad as GPF.

When Patrick got on the ice, he was still trying to channel his inner peace... I saw him breathing, doing similar exercises as I do before going on stage... however, he was already center ice... so I breathed with him, hoping he would get into it.. but I felt he was a bit too nervous... Why???? Who knows? IMHO Patrick should never be nervous... who cares that it's a competition... he should focus on giving a performance...

This being said, the program started with the most gorgeous 4t-3t i have seen him do... it racked up 17.17 points... (usually i think he gets in the 16s)... so I was thrilled... it was so straight and beautiful... WOW... for what it's worth.. not many guys achieve good 4-3 combos tonight... Nathan's 4lz-3t only gets him 20 points and Boyang's only 18... so that shows you how strong Patrick's combo is..

triple axel.. wonderful height... big score... I was delighted... but I still felt I needed to breathe... and I sort of felt Patrick needed to breathe as well... he went into the 4S and he fell... he even got a carrot for it... considering the state of mind i felt he was, i expected the worst from then on.... i did hope for the best still but yeah...

4t, fall... 3A... touched down, losing value as he couldn't do his combo...

3loop good.

3 lz rough... not able to put the combo

3flip-2t-2l.. YAY patrick think properly and puts his combo in... mind you, a 3-3 would have been available for him...

Despite the glitches, the performance high level was kept throughout.... he edged Jin and was in first place before the last 4 boys.... but... it would have taken a big meltdown from 2 of these guy for Patrick to medal... 1 came from Han... I thought for a moment that Shoma may have issues, he did but certainly not enough... and with a large cushion... well bye bye the medal...

NOT THAT I CARE about the medals... but somehow... I'd like Patrick to know he is worthy of the highest results.. remove his SP fall on the 4t... and give him one more quad in his LP and he is in the game... he doesn't need 23049283049 quads.. he just needs what HE CURRENTLY HAS... but he needs it all.

So let's see... At this point, I think we are set for worlds... I don't expect Patrick adding more content. I am sure he will work on what he needs to land right now... I am actually not sure how skaters train... I know that as a musician, there are a few things I'd do.. but not sure it can work for skaters...

Good night or good morning... I'd say this is worth watching anyways... even if just for the first two elements ;)

those two first elements of Patrick's in his FS were PERFECT. Just perfect.

what pleased me is that he was rewarded for it. Some people overlook the quality of Patrick's elements and focus on the mistakes.. Patrick is capable of the BEST... and yes... the worst too at times...some skaters are steadier but will reach great levels... not best levels on their elements...even the 4S.. it wasn't great tonight but the one at COC and the one at Nationals.. much better than many of the 4S that we see on the market... straight air position, even rotation, glide on the landing edge...

I don't think patrick will enter the quad race eventhough i am sure he has a 4flip in his possibilities... i sort of simply hope he loves what he does and embraces it, and that he let the kids go crazy it they wish to do so...

it was very refreshing to see all the positive comments about patrick this week.... funny how life is... when he is no longer the main contender many people acknowledge his qualities.

Truth is, Yuzu and Patrick can still win most things with 1Quad in SP, and 2-3 quads in the FS -if they are clean. getting about 100 in the SP and about 205 in the FP. Totally doable. But the being clean is so tough. Sometimes the tech content can make up for a bit of nerves if the ability is there. A fall on a 4T gives more points than a fall on a 3lz (if rotated). Which is why so many young skaters are 'going big'. There Isn't too much loss if they try. That's why it's easier being a young challenger.
For Patrick, if he's clean, he's right there in the medal contention again, despite a lower BV.

mmm i don´t see anything ...... no womenl, no men , no dance, no pair...
I don´t know why, I did not have good feelings about this competition even though I did not care about the results (I only wanted to see him take a chance putting a second quadruple in the short) and unfortunately, I was right
Given the results and no program has worked well, I will see the programs throughout the week.

Just finished the LP section of my 4CC part 2 blog post. That was a nice handshake Patrick offered Yuzu and Shoma!

Patrick Chan 2017 Four Continents: Part 2

Even though the LP was flawed and Patrick ended up in fourth, I'm really proud of him - especially knowing that he had the 2nd highest PCS score this time, less then 2 points behind Yuzu! :agree:

Patrick will be up next in the gala, so I'll try to capture some of that before going to bed.

Quality of skating will always beat a jumping machine. Skaters like Yuzu and Chan proved it before and also today, even if neither got the gold at this competition. It's important to not forget. :)

word. he has to go close to clean - if he doesn't, his pcs also take a massive hit. it's unfair, but it happens.

and yes, that was a beast of a combo.

i did not appreciate patrick in his heyday but over the last 3 years i have become an uber. the last olympic season was when i actually started rooting for him. now all the other skaters make it even more obvious that he is untouchable when it comes to ss, in, speed. i treated myself to worlds tickets because of him (and, well, aljona - but mostly patrick). and as a classical musician myself, i can honestly say i have never seen greater interpretation of music on ice than that in patrick's programs (though there are other great examples. in truth, there is nothing wrong with being second best).

Oh, I don't know, how all you, guys, can discuss Patrick's perfomance. I'm afraid, now I have no effort to talk about it. You're are great) And strong like Patrick)) I'm carry off him. And will be wait him on world :3

Rewatching the top men, Patrick´s performance was the most enjoyable for me. He was born to be ice dancer!!!, he is in the
wrong discipline!!! :curse: :scowl:

I hope he does not lose motivation.

http://www.miaopai.com/show/sxbeBE~x0oQkAwtQ~3LQ6A__.html Patrick and Yuzu discussing something. I think they are deciding on a jumping path for the finale. Did you see the video, they did a nice synchronized jump together. https://twitter.com/GeumNa/status/833274112105517056 Prior discussion prevents mid-air collisions.

Cute video! I like the part where Patrick first leans on Shoma, then on Nathan as he takes off his skate guards. Not saying that he's old and needs help... I wonder what he ended up hunting for when ducked down?

You can see Patrick patting Yuzu on the back in the green room at the end of this video clip:

Here's what Patrick said about his performance (article). He seemed very straightforward:

“I need to work on my snap off the ice and being more efficient,” said Chan. “I’m looking forward to going back home and working on that. Those are also things that I can work on both on and off the ice

Good! I look forward to seeing him improve at worlds!

He did mistakes but really enjoyed his skating in this competition, I actually like both programs so much since season start, I will be in Helsinki and will be cheering for Yuzu and Patrick too , I believe the beauty of skating shouldn't be lost and I feel really down that multiple quads equal to high PCS nowadays . Anyways looking forward to see him live for the first time after TEB 2013 , do your best in Helsinki Chiddy, show them that quality still matters :clapper:
