Patrick Chan

Haha, not my fault - blame Japanese time! Sweet dreams, 4everchan! :bed:

Thank you, Blueberryhill! Happy Lantern Festival!

It would be interesting to have a translation of Han Yan's comments. How awesome for him to be seated beside his idol at the press conference. :) He has such potential, so great for him to get a medal at 4CC.

I couldn't be more thrilled with Patrick's free skate! I wish Canadian TV would have broadcast it, if not live, then at least the same day. However we won't get the coverage here until next Saturday. Thank goodness for the internet! I was able to watch and rewatch to my heart's content on Sunday morning. :) :) :)

No CBC commentary in Canada? Really? Seriously? NOOOOOOO  I have been waiting for what Tracy and Kurt would say about Patrick's memorable free skate!

Vivley, Help! We need translation, please.

Yan Han 4CC press conference after FS (about his idol Patrick)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioFeok7Qato

PS I don´t understand but his face is funny

They asked him now that he is sitting beside his idol Patrick, what else could he learn from him after giving such a great performance himself.

Han Yan: I'm not only learning from Patrick, I'm learning from all the athletes, everyone has their own strengths. Just because I'm sitting with him doesn't mean I'm as good as him (he mumbled this part but I think that's what he means), I still think I'm lacking in a lot of areas... and what else *everyone laughs*

Reporter: What other specific areas do you think you can improve on your performance here?

Han Yan: I think I can still raise my (technical) difficulty by a little bit, right now it's not that easy, I still lack a lot so I think everything can be improved, I have to elevate everything, performance, jumps, skating skills, spins, everything is becoming harder.

Yeah he's a bit mumbly so I don't think it's 100% accurate but it gets the idea across

Thank you, Krunchii for your translations!

Happylife, I thought they did translate it, since everything was done in both Chinese and English, even Patrick's winner's interview. But maybe it wasn't captured on those videos. Patrick's well-timed laughs when Han Yan glanced at him are cute. I wonder how much Mandarin he understood? Even during his winner's interview he nodded and smiled at just the right times in such a way that it seemed he knew what the interviewer was saying.

Han Yan seems like a guy Patrick could be buddies with. My first reaction when I saw his SP was, "copycat!" But now I understand why his SP music and costume (looked a lot like Patrick's, just without the vest) seemed so familiar. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :)

Now I'm hoping that someone will post the complete press conference video online so we can hear Patrick's comments.

He said the trend is to raise the standard in every area of figure skating - performance, skating, jumps, spins, etc.

i think Han means, that the trend now is technical difficulty (meaning jumps). and then he said he wanna improve every aspect of figure skating, jumps, performance, skating skills, spins. etc.
what he implied is that before, artistic side (PCS categories) is valued a lot more than current trend.
Also, Han's idol is Patrick for a very long time since childhood, it is very well known among Chinese fans.I am kinda surprised that some of Patrick fans here dont know that.
He has studied (together with his Coach) many of Patrick's programs in details. as why Patrick's skating is good and what is the new trend in figure skating.
His coaches emphasize on basic skating skill education which is unique among Chinese coaches.
but in this interview, Han hinted, it seems now the trends in figure skating has been shifted, and that's why he emphasized he will learn from everyone not only Patrick and improve in every aspect of his skating.
Han is a very smart boy with vision, he may not necessary like the current trend, but he has to do whatever takes to reach to the top, under current rules. and give good interviews.

It's a very short 3-second video clip, but in case you were all curious, watch this and you'll find out what Patrick was actually wearing underneath his jacket.

I've never seen this picture of Patrick going down a slide before. Does anybody know where it came from?

I love to hear so many compliments to Patrick.:luv17:
I never thought that Weir would be so kind about Chan. I do not know why but I had the feeling he did not like .(his skate /like person)
I think it helped that Yuzu was not in the competition. Johnny LOVES Yuzu, but without him there for direct comparison (showing Johnny what Patrick lacks), Johnny freely acknowledged Patrick's brilliance for what it was. I have the feeling that Johnny also likes Javi more than Patrick, but he wasn't there either.

From what I could discover, CBC aired the FD and the Pairs FS on Feb 20th. According to this link, the Ladies FS and Mens FS will air on CBC on Feb 27th at 3 pm. So, it is likely that someone will upload it after that date. The 4CC videos on CBC's website right now have no commentary.

Obviously Boyang really wanted to be in that photo... :hap85:
