I have read Russian press and also they focused this interview as a notice of his imminent retreat. :scratch2: I read the first one the interview in his Canadian version, and for me,it did not seem so negative, on the contrary, I think that he was speaking about his possibilities with many honesty but he was positive. :)

Worst part of the negative interpretations in the different mass media is that his haters say that it is his way of complaining :dev2: and he wants to influence judges to overscore him.:unsure:
 
I really like the original report from Canada because, in congruence with other recent interviews, Patrick shows a very positive mindset and satisfaction with his progress and prospect. I like very much that he and his coach have figured out how to get through challenging times, and that he realizes how important this is. It makes all the tough emotional and frustating times very worthwhile experiences.

Patrick explains well the very good reasons to decide after Worlds at Boston if he will continue to the next Olympics. He is happy with his health and his progress while honestly acknowledging his technical disadvantage at the moment, being in tune with the current Mens competition landscape. However, he has expressed at various times and demonstrated that he is not stagnant but is raising technical difficulty sensibly. I am glad his coach has kept him grounded instead of bowing to pressure and rushing into adding quads in haste. They are not near sighted but have a planned holistic approach, :agree:

I've been seeing a mature and wiser Patrick at peace with himself and will make the healthy decision based on what makes him happy. He's never stated his decision will be based on his Worlds placement, contrary to the superficial assumptions by some journalists.

The Chinese report is negatively focused, stating that Patrick called this Worlds as critical turning point for himself and emphasizing his disadvantages instead of his optimism. It is wrong to translate "shame" in "it would be a shame" as 耻辱, a humiliation. An appropriate translation would be 可惜 instead.

I have a feeling we will be in for a very happy surprise.

I read the article now... it's positive.... the shame comment is just an idiomatic expression... perhaps it was mistranslated in other media but in the Canadian one it just means that it would be idiotic to retire after 2017, just before going to the games... as it would be a mistake to take a year off next year and come back just for the games... so it's no news news.... of course, Patrick was always going to assess if he is staying for 2018 after the first comeback year.... considering HOW AMAZINGLY well he has done, having the hardest program of his life in terms of content (2 4Ts and 2 3As) and the most touching one ever (Chopin) ... i don't see why he would feel his progress is not good... regardless of how he does at the WC, he is ahead of schedule in my opinion... I was just hoping for him to retrieve his 2013 level... well he has surpassed it already....

also, not that Patrick may care about this, Virtue and Moir coming back increases chances for a team event gold.... pairs and dance are great and I believe the ladies will improve drastically in the coming years...

So... do not fear friends... I think Patrick will keep at it ;)
 
I agree with all of the above posts. :agree: Just don't know why these journalists are spinning his words in the most negative way or leaving them out. I guess it's par for the course.

After that spectacular performance in Taipei, it would be a crying shame if Patrick quit after Worlds. At age 25 he produced his best LP (and possibly best overall) performance ever, too. I agree with VB that he might just surprise us all.

I just read in fsu he struggled with quads and 3A. Attempted 3A 5 times before landed. Two quads rotated with one fall and one hand down. Just first practice
