Patrick Chan

as long as we focus on Patrick and why such pieces would suit his greatness, why not ??? i think we all contribute to this fan fest with our own special ways... adding to music, is my silly fanboying of Patrick :) while others share social media bits for our enjoyment :) I have no idea if Patrick comes lurking here HAHA i doubt it ;) he is so busy and tbh, if I were an athlete, I would stay clear of social media... including forums... too many bashers ...

I knew you would like the Mussorgsky (great gates of kiev)... i know nothing about Korean music... I don't think it would be a good choice for a chanadian to skate to it, unless they have sufficient knowledge of it... cultural appropriations are tricky.

vivley : why isn't Patrick coming to Montreal ? it would take me the whole day to trek to Ottawa...i think i will wait for Nationals.

Oooooh, thank you so much!

I remember how adorable Patrick was before joining the senior rank. Now he's all grown up, all man. A gorgeous man.

Thank you for gloating and making us jealous, happylife! You are now our officially designated stalker. So don't you slack off or keep private treasures.

Good question - I keep checking the Stars on Ice Canada web site, and Montreal is not listed...

Thank you so much! Yes, I very much enjoyed seeing these wonderful photos!

Wow, thank you so much for sharing these, Happylife! So awesome that you got to meet Patrick a few times and see his red and green in person. Also, despite your "heart-shaped mask", you looked gorgeous!

------------

And for those playing the "where in the world is Patrick Chan" game, he was just sighted at McDonald's in Japan a couple of hours ago. Some fans were incredulous that he went to Japan to eat at McDonalds, but others were happy to meet him!

i wonder if he does eat mcdo.... i mean... they sponsor him so of course he goes there ;) but he has said he was working hard on his weight... even non-athletic people like myself don't eat there ;) haha

Patrick is usually only involved with McD's charity events. He is very mindful about what he eats with occasional splurges. He answered that of course he ate the Big Mac when asked but we expected that.

I don't go to McD except about twice for charity reason over two decades ago but since then I don't even want to have anything to do with their charities which don't make a dent in absorbing the nefariousness they inflict on humanity. OK, I'm glad for their continued sponsorship of PChiddy.

i'd be happy for something special in the SP too...

for music of a country, that's not quite what I mean... I was asked about Korean music. We are not talking about K-Pop here i am assuming... as anyone could figure out what to do with it... I was referring to traditional music... it has particular history, context etc, and I don't think it is always easy to understand if you are not aware of the culture... this is an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2qPqf75p5w

it doesn't mean it's like that for every country : like tango, Patrick does it very well.... despite not being argentinian...

that's more what I mean... some countries traditional music is not that accessible, Korea would be one of them.

About music: I would like that patrick was using something very different (better in SP because it not necesary much coreo) rock, fado... I do not believe that is is necessary for him to know the cultures of a country to use their musics.

it´s possible but I think the good programs are due to the effort and good choreography.
No doubt that Korean music is difficult, but for example there are hundreds of terribles flamenkos but judges and the public like them , when they have nothing to do with spanish music, this program only like because the skaters use the stereotypes that works. Sometimes also it works to "sell" the concept even if there is none.

Hi, and glad to see so many gorgeous photos of Patrick!:thank:

I wonder if dance training will help him with the curving of the port de bras? It will make a difference in being more pleasing to the eye aesthetically, by curving slightly the elbows. I can't explain why, except it looks more rounded, as if one is embracing the world, it is the visual difference between John Curry and Max Aaron. I am so busy looking at his amazing feet so much I hardly noticed his arms.

If the Olympics were to be held in Beijing, there would be so many great pieces to suggest, eg. The Last Emperor (by Ryuichi Sakamoto), Crouching Tiget, Hidden Dragon (by Tan Dun) that Patrick and a Russian pairs skater had used before, and of course Turandot (a bit overused...).

And the Marco Polo theme:

Or Mongolian:

So I'm wondering if there's a great Korean-inspired piece out there that I'm missing?

I can't describe how much I was astonished when I saw his skating in front of my eyes in a show for the first time. I was almost mumbling "Is he a masician or something? " The other one whose skating I was amazed with as much as I do to Patric was Takahiko Kozuka.

Welcome, Eric, welcome to the fest where we celebrate Patrick and his skating! I hope you stay and have fun with us.

I especially appreciate that you and I share favorite skaters such as Takahiko, Jeremy, and of course Patrick, all with wonderful skating skills.

totally agree with you... i have seen terrible flamencos and i am not Spanish but they felt wrong ;) for Korean music, it would need an expert choreographer for sure... you know, even mack the knife had some issues, of course part of it is the fact that he took the bublé`s version... but this song is not a happy one ;) yet well, it was done in a happy style.

One thing is sure though is that Patrick takes his music seriously and doesn't do silly gestures that have nothing to do with it. I'd like him to explore different styles as you have said, in the SP!!! It would be nice. At the same time, he does it quite well in EX pieces...

In any case ;) I think we are both just looking forward to finding out about next year's programmes!!!

Ohh yes.. i hope rock... I would not mind even if the FS if it is a really nice music (like "nothing else matter") :luv17:

Thank you everyone for the thumbs up on my post. :) It was a pleasure to meet and talk to Patrick in the last few times, the impresssions that I got from him is he is a very polite, happy, considerate, honest young man. Not a person with those nasty words, negative comments from the people who don't know him. :(

I meant to upload these pictures to share with everyone for a long time but I need help to do it. I'm glad you enjoy them. :)
