Mr Chan talked about the COP, the various elements, and jumps. He talked about the late Mr Coulson too. Admiration, respect and gratitude for Mr Coulson is evident in this interview. Lastly, he explained why Patrick had silly falls

I hope someone can translate it eventually; I'd love to hear Mr. Chan's insights. What did he say about the falls? I know that Patrick is so determined and disciplined that he can figure out a way to overcome this. I assumed it was partly a lapse of attention, leaping ahead to the next challenge in his mind. Whatever it is, I'm sure it's something he will surmount.

The interviewer asked questions in Cantonese, but Patrick replied them mainly in English. This interview might have been brought up in this thread before. If so, sorry.

As of June 3, 2012, Patrick was still saying that he'd been training in both Colorado and Toronto and planning to spend more time in Toronto. He said he's been really lucky to have such a set of parents who really look out things for him. The funny part was he said that he tried not to spend his free time with his mom because his mom has been with him to competitions and everywhere. So they kind of need a break from each other. He said that his father is a stable foundation of the family. For father's day, he might give him a suit, a tie, or might just have a dinner. He said after his retirement, he wants to go to university for sure.:yes: But it's still too early, he hasn't decided yet what to do.

Do I understand this correct? It means that Patrick doesn't have new coach? If so, I'm a little bit disappointed and worried; but after all, that's his decision.

And that's what is written about Patrick's new SP in icenetwork's article (which is about Jeffrey Buttle):

Also, this summer Buttle worked with reigning Canadian and world men's champion Patrick Chan. They transformed a program that Chan had previously used for an exhibition into a short program.

What Buttle opted for is a short program that highlights Chan's skating skills. Instead of a jam-packed program, Buttle hopes this will showcase the quality of Chan's movement. Buttle will attend Skate Canada's national team training camp in September to hear the feedback of the judges and technical specialists, and then work with Chan to fine tune any corrections.

Just a summary of his uncle's word about Patrick's falls during footwork .... Because Patrick uses extensively his skating edge to increase speed and ice coverage during his intricate footwork sequence, just minor inattention or the body out of alignment will result in a fall.

Not an expert in translating cantonese, so no word for word translation. I am pretty sure that the gist of what his uncle said.

I'm so happy to know his SP is　"Elegie" and he keeps training mostly in Colorado Springs , but a little concerned about his having no specific technical or jump coach at this moment
Perhaps Eddie's been helping him practice those new kinds of quad jumps?

I notice everyone tries to be positive (well the skaters). Even the injured ie. Phaneuf or Czisny tell the media positive things. This sucks but it gives me a chance to rest, focus and really be intense and efficient blah blah blah It is a challenge and i thrive on challenges etc. I truly think not having a technical coach is not good and I hope Buttle has not watered down the routine. This is scaring me; i truly think the Japanese men and Fernandez can easily beat Chan. It is important that we see some growth and the judges see it too ie. an additional quad and or artistry.

Aprilsnowy, Patrick’s web bio indicated his coaches are Kathy Johnson (movement) and Eddie Shipstad (harness). I don’t know whether Eddie is his technical coach. His interviews indicate that he’s trying to add new jumps by 2013 Canadian Nationals.

Skater Boy, you are truly a worrywart. ‘Talking positive’ is called ‘PR’. Do you expect the skaters to say “oh no, I don’t have a quad and I am in trouble”? Being competitors, I am sure all skaters will have a positive and winning mindset.
I can understand concerns when changes or the ‘untried’ route is taken. We are also not sure how and where Patrick’s new route will take him but I am sure those who surround him and Patrick himself knows what he is doing. Now is the time to try new things. At least, he dares to take risks and bigger challenges. Of course no one can guarantee how it will turn out until it’s seen and judged. Competitions are organic. Patrick in his recent interview indicated he is aware that there are many equally brilliant competitors and I am sure he doesn't take his competitors for granted otherwise, he wouldn’t talk about pushing his technical skills/jumps further. Let’s see how it goes when the competition season begins in a month’s time. Say ohmmmmm…..

2006 Canadian Nationals where Patrick was placed 7th overall. I like this vid because young Patrick looked good in appearance and skating, he was with Coulson (the last nationals they were together before he passed away the following year).

BTW, I'm a bit surprised that Patrick's keeping this current team as full staff. I thought he'd get another coach for technical advises especially when he's upping the ante every season, it looks like.
