Phelps Is Into Skaters

Lotta, :agree: ITA!

Lad, if you're not interested in any thread, you are free to ignore it. I'm not trying to be mean or anything--not all threads interest me either, so I ignore them and let those who are enjoying them enjoy them. :)

Idle, I'm so disgusted with the Phelps story that I totally forgot to tell you that your original post was amusing! I know, I know, some guys have all the luck! ;)

Just wondered what all the rhetoric was about concerning Phelps.

RG, I'm disappointed too. I was so impressed with how MP handled the pressure of the Olympics, lived up to the expectations, and took care of his fans along the way. He seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.

Now, there is NO excuse for drunk driving, and I firmly believe that all should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, MP included. That being said, and this is in no way an excuse, his actions were that of a 19 year old boy. It's horrible, but I know a lot of teens who have done the exact same thing. Unfortunately, kids think they are invincible. They simply don't think that anything bad will actually happen to THEM. (I wish I knew how to change that line of thinking.) MP is very lucky that no one was hurt and his response to the incident makes me think he won't do it again. Not that he should be applauded for taking responsibility for his actions, because that is what he should be doing. He's owning up to the fact that he made a mistake. There seems to be a serious shortage of personal responsibility these days. At least MP seems to be bucking that trend. Maybe that's something you could discuss with RG Jr?

Well it is always disappointing when someone outstanding in the sports world tarnishes their image - especially a "golden" image from the Olympics; However, Phelps did apologize and has expressed remorse for his actiions. I am sure he will learn a lesson from this and does not want to give a negative image to those who admire his accomplishments. Like he states "it was a mistake."

Back to the real world

There's a process that US soldiers go through when they return from combat. I forget what it's called. Don't know if it helps.

I wonder if IOC might put together a quick training program for Olympians who medal that would warn them of the pitfalls and possibly help them adjust to life after the Olympics.

"Was there any alcohol served at this party?"

Suppose you've heard that he was picked up for DUI? He was on the Today show about it today. I don't know what was said. One of the times I checked the other stations.

he basically said it was unacceptable, what he did... that it was a mistake... a one time thing... and that he never wanted to hurt his mother again...

I've never been a fan of his, thought he was too cocky (and yet I'm a fan of Mike Weiss, go figure right? LOL) but he seemed sincere enough on the Today show... Matt Lauer was pretty hard on him, questions wise

Donny Osmand, Bobby Sherman, Vin Diesel, the Backstreet Boys are all passing fancies in a young woman's dream, parents are forever.

Passing fancy? I've been a Donny Osmond fan for 32 years.

For what it's worth, Donny Osmond and I will both be turning 47 years old in a couple of weeks :sheesh:

Mathman, what a great shot! When was the last time that forehead saw the light of day? And he's got the unibrow working...

Be careful about making fun of us old folks. We just might just beat you with our canes if we can find the energy. ;)

As for that ick photo from the 1970's, I think Donny is looking much better nowadays. http://store.donny.com/product.i?pid=46&size=big

And there's no uni-brow

It was weird growing up knowing that Donny Osmond, the kid who played Peter on the Brady Bunch, and I were all born within a couple of weeks of each other. I developed a bit early, and it was a bit strange looking at these two guys who were the same age as me, who still had high prepubescent voices, while I had already started shaving, and talking like Lurch at around 13.

Are Sarah and Sasha Jewish? I don't understand that part of your post.

...Either that, or he just has a thing for Jewish chics. Click HERE and HERE. Forget all the product endorsements. The main perk of winning a bunch of gold medals, is that you get to hang out with other olympians of the opposite sex. Lucky bastard. :sheesh:

GlacierSkater, actually there is a discussion about that going on right now in the thread "The ISU makes threat..."
