Polina Tsurskaya

If Polina won't make any team (in juniors or seniors) this year, I think there's a chance that she will retire  I hope she will get better and be able to practice and skate healthily :sad4:

Depressing to hear that. I hope she finds a way to cope with her illness as a person and as an athletic.

There is an interview with Polina’s mom, who tells completely different things about Polina’s health:
http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20170428/1119739454.html

She says that in the past Polina suffered from a torn ligament and Koenig's disease but the injury she is dealing now is a herniated disc (= back injury). There is NO genetic disease. Polina does not quit, but continues skating!

So either Eteri or Polina’s mom are lying. My bet is on Eteri – her training methods obviously lead to a lot of back injuries (Lipnitskaya, Pitkeev, Tarasenko, …), stating Polina has a genetic disease, a disease which can’t be cured, is not compatible with elite sport and needs intensive treatment not only camouflages if Polina’s injuries are due to overtraining but it basically makes it impossible for Polina to change coaches. – Which coach would take an athlete with a chronic disease that needs constant costly treatment? :(

I wonder if this might have been the reason for Polina’s mom to give such an interview: to make clear that once her injuries are cured, she can train normally. Maybe her parents already want her to switch coaches, but given her current condition (and what happened to other coaches when taking former students of Eteri) no one is willing to take her? :scratch2:

In any case it's pretty strange that Eteri and Polina's mom tell different stories about Polina's health.

Thanks for info! If she doesn't suffer any generic illness, that would be a great news to hear because her injuries can be curable and she can continue on skating. However, the ongoing situation surrounding her sounds very strange. I don't know whose comment is more believable at this point. :slink:

Polina herself told exactly the same things that Eteri repeated today. :confused2:
And btw sometimes Different doctors put different diagnoses. I know from personal experience. :sarcasm:

It's no secret that Eteri's method is basically intense overtraining to drill skills into skaters at a young age. By far Med is the only lucky survivor. Polina's body type really isn't ideal for the amount of overtraining in Eteri's camp.

@ewdokia Thank you for the translation and summary of the article.

What I don't understand is that, why does Eteri say this, what's was the purpose of this press conference? And why now?

The head of the RusFed, Zhenya and Eteri were present. They discussed the results of the season. This press conference is not about Polina.
They answered different questions from journalists and questions from the Internet.
One question from the Internet was about Polina, Eteri replied that "everything is difficult, she has several diagnoses, but we and federation support Polina and working. "
And it's all.

In the end... is she injured or she has a disease???? Why her coach and her mother are not saying the same?

I think both. She has a disease or even several possible diseases that, in combination with sports, can cause new injuries. Or maybe because of the diseases/growth, her bones are weaker and it is more difficult for her to maintain a shape without getting new injuries and problems with the tendons/bones.

Right now, her doctors said she can jump, but she isn't doing it. She's trying to get the body more time to heal before the start of the new season.
But they both said one thing, that if there is a desire to continue. That she can try to do it. And she wants it.

it sucks....:sad46: i love her so much...... :sad14:
I still believe we'll see her beautiful SP in next season.

If Polina 5'7 or 5'8?.... how tall is her parents? any photo?

I kinda worry a lot about her. Hope she do not damage her health too much in all this =S
Specially because all those bone issues tend to have long term effects for women, specially when they hit their 40s-50s (due to hormonal changes, all bone and joint issues start getting worse).

the picture is recent? because Polina´s height is 170cm? right?

No, it is one year old pic. I posted that pic here on this thread in April last year but if I recall it was a new pic back then. Haven't seen any newer pic.

I think she was already about 170 cm back then.

 I am so sorry to hear of Polina' s problems.

Nathan Chen and Anna Pogorilaya, both of whom had Osgood-Schlatter, and also Irina Slutskaya who had a different illness, all had terrible health problems that required extensive healing time, and they returned to skating. May Polina heal well and reach her dreams, whatever form they may take after she heals.

Really sad for Polina, who for me this year holds the title for best SP performance (that Saransk skate)...I really hope that she can heal her injury as soon as possible and continue to improve! Seriously her jumps are among the best of the field and she is also improving so much on the artistic side.
