Random Confessions

Writing a proposal for a literature-based graduate project is so difficult. Trying to make it all sound graduate-level and not dumbed down, having the language sound scientific, and having it sound convincing....ugh. Thank goodness I'm going to have three more full days to try to work it out and that my mom will try to help me (She knows how to write very well).

Need to turn it in on Wednesday along with my other assignments for my intro to graduate studies class.

Oh another thing, I'm pretty sure if any of you were little back when you watch "Dragon Tales" (Like I was. I like 4 or 5 when I first watched it), then you probably thought of the character Ord when you saw dandelions.

#SundayCulinaryExperiments

Yesterday, I did banana cheesecake with 'zebra' layer made from cocoa and with raspberries and almond flakes on top - and of course brought some with me to work ;). Even I have to say (being not so modest) that it is good, I do not know how to post photos from my phone there, but I'll try to figure something out after getting back home

*show off mode* ;)

To idiot writing fanfic about figure skating on internet: BRITAIN DIDN'T QUALIFY A MEN'S SPOT FOR 2010, DOPING VIOLATIONS DON'T GET YOU PERMABANNED, AND MICHAL BREZINA'S SHERLOCK HOLMES PROGRAM STILL EXISTS. :bang:

Gonna watch Avengers Infinity Wars with friends tomorrow! :luv17: I still don't get how we're getting it earlier than the US.

The release date is getting a lot of flack here, and for very good reason.

It is the height of disrespect to a) release a movie, period but b) have it be a superhero fantasy huge war movie on ANZAC Day.

Happy to finally have a few days of real Spring weather! Last last weekend, we were literally skating in our shoes after the ice storm here in Ontario. Unless in a rink, not too sad to not see ice...

I'm personally amused by how the idea of hard release dates for movies have sort of gone out the window. Although it seems really unfair to compare opening box office numbers when one movie opens on Friday and another technically opens on Thursday.

I can't wait for Infinity War but I'm super scared that this is the end for Steve Rogers and I don't know that I can handle that loss... as much as I adore Bucky Barnes... I'm not ready to say goodbye to any of the original avengers, especially not Cap!

My Compared Politics professor just decided to not teach units 2-4. He said "study them at home". I am so angry right now

I feel so stupid. :disapp:

I only discovered last night that if you spell the male Irish name "Aidan" backwards, you get the female Russian name "Nadia". :palmf:

If I hadn't been told, I reckon I would never have made the connection. :slink:

And what's more, it was an episode of English soap opera "Coronation Street" that I heard it on! :drama:

If you want the context, the knicker factory on the street is owned by a guy called Aidan Connor (played by 2005 X Factor winner Shane Ward), and this schoolgirl has a crush on him. So, she made a comic strip in which he is a hero, but she spelled his name backwards to try to make it less obvious that it was him.

So, does that mean the scriptwriters think Nadia is a... boy's name???!!!

With each passing quad, the age difference between the skaters and I get wider...

I saw Avengers Infinity War last night and can't decide if it was completely amazing or completely traumatizing. I am a huge Marvel fan (no shame). Even though I knew certain deaths were likely I am still irrationally sad about certain characters ends.

It's a small world...
my personal trainer is Italian and recently moved to America. He was a hockey player for a while before retiring and played in the 2006 Olympics. Upon hearing that I'm a figure skating fan, we had a long conversation about Carolina Kostner. Apparently, her father was his coach for a while and he played with her brother a bit too! It's also interesting to hear how much of a hero she is in Italy -- not that I expected anything else, but it just goes to show how one good skater can change skating in that country :)

It really is a small world! :agree:

A couple of years ago, my Auntie went on holidays to 2 places in America (I can't remember where). And on the flight between the two places, she just by chance got chatting to this couple who were on their honeymoon, and it turned out that they had gone to the same school as her!

Better than that, when she got home, she was telling us the story and I realised who she was talking about! The guy was in my year at school, and I know him very well (don't know his wife, though).

I should add that I have some very embarrassing pictures of him in drag from a school trip to Prague...

You know, it is also amazing how the Kostner family have become involved, and been successful, in so many different sports:

Carolina in Figure Skating
Erwin (Dad) and Simon (brother) in Ice Hockey
Isolde (cousin) in Alpine Skiing
Aaron (don't know relationship) in Nordic Combined Skiing

OK, so Aaron is only at the early stages of his international career. But, he looks like he could be promising.

And that's just the ones I know about. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more! :drama:

Oh, and if you want to discover a relative of another figure skater, see my latest post in the music thread.

It happens to us all, mate! :disapp:

Apart from the fact that she is the skater that properly got me into this sport, that's why I want Carolina to carry on for as long as possible. Because she is only a year and a quarter younger than me! :agree:

And why I want the likes of Aliona Savchenko and Zhang Hao to carry on - because they are older than me!

It is scary that it is getting to the stage that most of the top Singles skaters are half my age... or less!

Like, I'm only in my early 30's! :drama:

And the longer she stays skating, the longer your screen name is current/relatable.

True. But, there are no shortage of Elizabeths / Elizavetas / any other variation of the name in the sport, so I could play on that! ;)

Nah, I'm not bothered about whether people can relate to my username. Anyway, I have a feeling that Carolina will be remembered for a very long time after she does eventually retire. :agree:
