Random Confessions

I know I shouldn't be, but seeing the state of Russian senior ladies, I'm terrified that they won't even be able to keep three spots and will have to choose between Shcherbakova, Trusova, and Kostornaya for worlds next year...
girl, chill!!! We haven’t even seen Alina yet! And this is the very very beginning of the season!

My computer, which had 8.5 years of use and all my school and university data is broken. I lost everything! I have to buy a new one, and there goes all my savings and my future season pass :bang:

I'm sorry! I hope if you watched either of the senior B's you can comment on these two threads, the best response wins a season pass!

So surprising development. My daughter came up to me and said "I want to watch ice skating on tv." I was surprised, but hey any excuse to watch some programs again.

But then I turned on the television and the Daniel Tiger movie was on TV, so she changed her mind. But hey it's cool she showed interest lol.

Try the Sofia the First episode with skating...

Season 3, episode 3 'Lord of the Rink' about a prince who wants to figure skate instead of play hockey. Sofia helps, and magic skating abilities are involved naturally.

She may have shown interest, and she may have learned that "watch ice skating" are the magic words that get the TV turned on. Figure skating on TV is better than no TV at all, you know!

She can ask for specific things on tv now (she’ll ask to watch Peppa Pig, which is one of her favorite shows). She watched some of ACI with me this weekend and she seemed to enjoy parts of it, though she kind of has a short attention span (typical, of course) She did go to Stars on Ice and liked parts of it, but my husband ended up walking around the concourse with her for a good chunk of it.

TGee thanks for the suggestion! It would be cool if she became a fan, but I don’t have expectations. She is young and obviously exploring and learning about a lot of things right now.

If everything had gone to plan, I would be taking my first steps on Polish soil around now. As it is, I am still in Northern Ireland. And I am heartbroken that things haven’t worked out.

You know the way I mentioned that my friend Giorgia will be making her Junior GP debut this week at Czech Skate in Ostrava. Well, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone:

  1. Go to my first figure skating competition.
  2. Cheer Giorgia on.

Ostrava is in the Czech part of Silesia, close to the Polish border. The result is that, as well as the airport serving Ostrava itself, you also have Pyrzowice Airport (serving Katowice) and Balice Airport (serving Kraków) nearby.

Nobody flies from Ireland to Ostrava, and I didn’t fancy taking connecting flights in case there were delays. So that left a choice of:

  • Dublin (further from home) to Pyrowice (nearer to Ostrava)
  • Belfast (nearer to home) to Balice (further from Ostrava)

My preference was for the latter, largely because I don’t trust the airline that flew the direct route from Dublin to Pyrowice. And anyway, the seats on that route sold out while I was in Cyprus.

So, flights were easy to find, and accommodation was easy to find. The problem was finding transportation between Krakow and Ostrava that suited the time schedules for the flights and the hotel. And that ultimately proved impossible.

To cut a long story short, there just aren’t enough public transport connections between the two cities. For each journey, there were only 2 buses that were within the time window I was working with. And all of them were close to the one end of the time window or the other. So, no mater which one I chose, even the smallest of delays would have left me up the creek without a paddle.

It is just so frustrating that something as simple as travelling between the airport and the city you would be staying in turned out to be the deal breaker. Like, you could live with it if you couldn't get a flight or couldn't get accommodation. But, I had no bother with getting those.

All I can say is thank goodness I decided to research everything before booking anything. Or else I would be seriously out of pocket.

May I take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to NoNameFace and Mohacz, who very kindly tried to help me by looking for alternatives from the Polish end of things, but to no avail.

It won't be the same as being on site in Ostrava, but at least I can take one positive: I will now be able to watch Czech Skate in the company of the legend that is Ted Barton. ;)

Anyway...

:cheer: ALL THE BEST, GIORGIA!!! :cheer:

I find Evgenia Medvedeva extremely annoying and I fail to see Misha Ge's artistry :(

This happens to me sometimes too! But for me it's honey granola and yogurt...and if insomnia doesn't go away, I watch a movie.

My recent cure for no sleep is watching The Great British Bake Off - this is exactly the same obsession like I had with Project Runway show! I can watch the whole season repeatedly:)

CaroLiza_fan - no need to thank me, if you made it then there would be a reason:). But do not give up - there will be time and place, I also had plans, dreams to go for quite some time to competitions, but it never was to happen, now after March experience in Milan it is getting better. And the more complicated travel is, the less exciting the whole thing looks like, at least for me...We will the all cross our fingers for Giorgia from where we are:cheer::)

Just watched BTS on Jimmy Fallon and I can probably now tell who is who:laugh: as I have had some issues to 'gather' all 7 of them in my head...Wow at the cheer they've got and singing along! It's quite fascinating to see such following:)

Good luck! :cheer:

I took AP Bio, thought it was the easiest class I'd ever taken, then tanked the AP exam. :(

I am in solidarity with you. Granted this was a loooonng time ago, but I also aced AP bio only to completely mess up on the actual AP exam.

I hope you'll fare much better than both of us, S4M!

I've started watching it, too, and it always sends me to the kitchen for a snack, unfortunately.

My roommate has never seen it!! We watched the first two episodes that are available on Netflix tonight as a panacea for, well, today and ~everything~. It mostly worked.
