Random Confessions

This store lady kept peering at me like I was wearing an Al Capone t-shirt over a prison jumpsuit. Part of me doesn't want to complain, because I don't know the whole story, and I very well might fit the description of a known shoplifter or some other innocuous explanation. The other part does, because I'm not a dang thief!

My roommate has never seen it!! We watched the first two episodes that are available on Netflix tonight as a panacea for, well, today and ~everything~. It mostly worked.

I'm in the middle of a third season, out of sequence. Also watching Master Classes at the end of each season.

CaroLiza_fan - no need to thank me, if you made it then there would be a reason:). But do not give up - there will be time and place, I also had plans, dreams to go for quite some time to competitions, but it never was to happen, now after March experience in Milan it is getting better. And the more complicated travel is, the less exciting the whole thing looks like, at least for me...We will the all cross our fingers for Giorgia from where we are:cheer::)

You always know the right things to say! Thank you. :thank:

Having seen how nervous Giorgia was before she started her SP, I am now glad that I wasn't there.

Like, with the number of spectators being so small, me sitting there wearing a Batman T-shirt and holding a Cypriot flag... I would have stuck out like a sore thumb! I would never have been able to keep my attendence secret from her until after everything was over, like I intended.

And if she knew her superfan was there, it would have just added to the pressure on her. And I would never want to do that.

So, although it would have been nice to be there for the occasion, I do now think it is better that it worked out this way.

So our Volleyball team won/defended WC title yesterday and they're getting my hopes up about Olympics again. The expectations will be killing me like last time...

A couple of weeks ago, my computer screen died. It happened a couple of hours before the Lombardia Ladies SP started, and I was running around like a headless chicken trying to work out what was wrong before it started.

The old screen was a 16 inch 4:3 analogue LCD TV that had became redundant as a TV because of the digital switchover. And since it dying had happened unexpectedly, the only thing we could replace it with quickly was a 15 inch 16:9 digital LCD TV. And everything was so small on it! Especially since we had to have it in 4:3 aspect, because for some reason when you set it to 16:9, it was stretching the computer picture from 4:3 rather than actually showing it in 16:9 ratio. And the picture looked awful.

So, after a week or so of researching, we ordered a new monitor. This time we went for a dedicated computer monitor, rather than a TV that could double up due to having a VGA input. And we chose a 19 inch 16:9 LCD screen, which is the same height of screen as the original 16 inch 4:3 screen size that we were used to. We also made the point of choosing one which had built in speakers, as there isn't a lot of room on the computer table for separate speakers.

The new screen arrived on Saturday morning, just as Hana Kosić was about to start her FS at Czech Skate. So, since I wanted to get it set up straight away, I abandoned the skating.

Thankfully, with this screen it had the wit to realise that the aspect ratio should be 16:9 rather than a stretched 4:3. But, I have to admit that the built in speakers are useless. Even when everything is turned up full blast (programme, computer, and screen), you can barely hear anything. On the plus side, I have gotten into the habit of dragging videos from the computer over to the main TV screen to watch, and the speakers on it are better.

So now that the scene has been set, time for the confession part.

I am finding it surreal how different the websites look on a 16:9 screen to how they do on a 4:3 screen.

(When reading the next bit, please be aware that I ALWAYS have the History displayed in the side bar for handy access).

Like, I've discovered that the Facebook News Feed page actually has 4 columns rather than the 3 that I thought it had (2 and a bit of which I could see on the 4:3 screen)! I've also discovered that the drop down menu beside the "E" at the top of the Eurosport Player isn't supposed to be a drop down menu - it is supposed to be a horizontal menu bar! And there are other websites that I have discovered that the stuff at the bottom of the page is actually supposed to be at the side.

Possibly best of all, the columns on Hotmail are now wide enough that I can actually read my e-mails without having to scroll back and forth every line! (I use the vertical layout. I used to use the horizontal layout, but found that the section where it lists the e-mails was practically useless as it only listed 2 at a time). And when I click into photos on Facebook, I can now look at the entire photo while reading the comments at the side, instead of having to cut the edge off one or the other!

Now I wish we had switched over to a 16:9 screen years ago!

Better not expecting, Olympics are a different animal altogether and somehow our team cannot get past success phase into another big event with same energy, determination and engagement. I wish nothing but the best to them and the coach, but this year's story with football National team shows that better not to pump up the baloon...

Well, our Football team is nowhere, nowhere near the level of our Volleyball team. And half of the team didn't even play in their clubs regulary, it was bound to end up badly, I really wasn't expecting of them anything actually. So I wouldn't compare this two things. And the thing with Volleyball team is that, that unlike 4 years ago, half of the team is not retiring. And so pumping up the baloon makes much more sense, though I agree that Olympics are something different. And two years makes much difference, and I know that other teams might start playing better and all that, but still. I still think that we haven't got such a good, well-balanced age wise team in a long time. And so expectations are there, even though I should've known better.

Why do some people feel the need to be so nasty on the internet?

I was just writing a comment about how a skater I have adopted got on at their recent competition. When I looked up the videos of one of the programmes, I found a whole pile of comments written in Russian. And when I translated them, they were all VERY nasty towards the skater.

What on Earth possesses people to do this?! Do they know how much hard work these skaters put in, and the effect that reading nasty comments like this can have?!

Do I need to remind people of what happened to Julia Antipova? And of how many other skaters over the years have developed eating disorders?

Think before you comment!

Thankfully, the comments on the other programme were very complimentary.

A lot of people have this fake sense of entitlement to everything, evaluating everything, judgement of everything, everyone - and are brave to voice it only in the Internet. Comments like these are bothering me especially towards athletes and more especially - about athletes competing in disciplines associated with certain 'body type', appearance; people will pick up anything they consider as a 'flaw' or worth laughing to show their 'knowledge' not even asked and often have not done anything productive and successful in their life. It is sad that some people like this have their existence based on being an Internet troll...

This forum has made me super self-conscious about checking nutrition labels in convenience stores. I'm just looking at the sugar and saturated fat content, but I can't shake the feeling that the GS Skinny Police will swoop in and armchair diagnose me with an eating disorder for trying to stave off the family diabetes and high cholesterol curse... by choosing the relatively "healthiest" candy bar or snack cake.

Ditto ordering small lattes at Starbucks. I'm certainly not about to let it stop me, but who needs the added stress?

I’m with you but I also strive for low sodium food. Little to no chocolate, minimum sugar, and I avoid processed deli meat. Lots of water and only black coffee. It was hard at first but once I’ve grew used to it it then became normal and satisfying. I used to drink soda and stuff but now the taste is almost overwhelming.

I’m from a diabetic family too and excericise and label hawk all my food :)

My idiot self managed to sprain my ankle again...

On another **** off ice axel. Okay universe, I get it. I’m never doing one again.

The only entertaining thing about this was as I sat on the floor shouting every curse word I know my roommates bulldog was freaking out like “what’s wrong! What can I do! If I lick your face does that help!?”

On the bright side I don’t think it’s as bad as last time. I’m still mad at myself for being such a moron.

I get really excited when I see girls do things that the boys do and some think they can’t. Lizzie Armanto made history yesterday as the first female to complete the loop on a skateboard!! It’s really a monumental moment!

I confess I get way to excited for this stuff. That girl has courage!!! :dance2:

Also....my dishwasher broke and I have dishpan hands today

And now 10 yr old Sky Brown landed the first 720 on a skateboard by a female

And......

I still haven’t fixed my dishwasher yet...and since I don’t have dishpan hands to confess I think I should admit that I have dishes waiting to be cleaned but I’m being lazy

I read the book the 'no sugar diet', and it makes you realize how much hidden sugar there is in our food. The one rule I try to live by is to not drink your calories. Black coffee it is.

Had budget only for one pair of shoes, bought two outstretching it :palmf:

#womanslogic

I do hope that one will not fit/be ugly/be tight/whatever to return them, at the same time - I do hope both will be good because they are both different

My cat headbutted me in the shin so hard he left a bruise. (For those of you who don't know cats, that's over-the-top affection, basically the feline equivalent of hugging someone so hard you leave a bruise.)

I am... very tired. Exhausted, in fact. I haven't felt quite awake this entire week. Except nothing is happening and I'm sleeping eight hours a night. I mean, I know why I'm feeling this way, but... (╥_╥)

It's bad enough when people twist what I say into a pretzel, but must they then pass their twisted version on to someone else who twists it even further beyond recognition!? :hslap:

........Yeah, this was about nothing remotely serious (think "order at a restaurant" level not serious), but it still wasted time that I didn't have.
