Random Confessions

Like Mrs. P said - I can re-grow my savings, but I won't have any occasion like that, to see Piper/Paul's FD they have THIS season live. I'm just tend to second-guessing myself too much, being afraid to make something bold, unexpected, last-minute. You and my teammates at work are keeping me with this decision, believe or not:)

Aww, I'm glad I could help! Yeah, as I said to someone else who was debating going to a competition... skaters retire. You never know when your last chance will be.

Yes. Yes. For the love of all things holy, don't assume there'll be another chance. Because there may not be, and then you'll be struck with sadness forever, wishing you'd had the opportunity to see them skate live.

I can back this point up. I am still regretting not going to Europeans when they were in Sheffield back in 2012. So many skaters I liked were competing there, and nearly all of them are now retired.

I also looked into going to the Trophée de France twice (the editions on either side of those Europeans). In 2011, because Carolina Kostner and Liza Tuktamysheva were both competing there. And in 2012, because Jenna McCorkell and Liza Tuktamysheva were both competing there. And I am still regretting not going to either of them.

The problem with all these competitions were that they were prohibitively expensive, both in terms of getting there and in terms of accommodation. (I am totally convinced that the Irish Sea has to be the most expensive body of water in Europe to get over). So, I do take a lot of comfort from that.

However, that was not the case with the latest competition I wanted to go to. The Junior Grand Prix in Ostrava a couple of months ago. Everything was working out very reasonable in terms of price. But, the logistics of going between the airport I would have been using and the host city scuppered the whole thing. There just are not enough connections between them. And those connections that there are were at times that would have left me stranded if there was even the smallest of delays.

I still held out hope that another bus or train would miraculously appear out of no-where until the day before the flight. Now that really would have been booking at the last minute!

Not getting to that competition is really hurting me. Not just because this was the most recent one I tried to get to, or because it was a realistic option in terms of price. It hurts because this competition was a significant milestone for a friend of mine - her first time competing at an ISU-run competition. And those circumstances will never happen again.

Back to the Seniors.

I really want to see Carolina and Liza live, especially since they are both now at an age where skaters are thinking of retiring. But, unless they both compete at the same Senior B, I don't think there will be any opportunities to see them both this season. The only competition that I know that they are possibilities to both be at is Europeans. And having a quick look there now, the flights alone are far too expensive (around the same as the entire trip to Ostrava would have cost. Plus they involve changing flights, which I am always wary of because of the possibilities of delays).

So, it looks like breaking my figure skating duck will have to wait until next season at the earliest. And that is taking a big risk, especially when it comes to wanting to see Carolina.

Moral of the story: if you want to see something and everything is able to fall into place, don't hesitate. Go for it!!!

They haven't fallen into place for me yet. But, I hope that they will soon.

I am bat-sheet crazy, but I am considering going to Grenoble for GP, last-minute style...:slink::drama::hopelessness:

I have this idea, being with me for a month or even more, to hand-make sunflowers, go to Grenoble and give them to Piper and Paul...

I’m considering this as well...

Everything almost booked, no turning back. Time to make sunflowers and other stuff!

Oh, I was refraining from bragging about my boy, but since you seem to have appreciated Arriba627's story...

Okay, I'm his third owner, no clue what happened with the others. I got him at a shelter for free because of his age, and I'm pretty sure the only reason they didn't euthanize him is because he's a gorgeous purebred. Dude was a hot mess when I first got him and still growls and hisses all the time, although he doesn't scratch me to ribbons anymore. But he is sooooooooo sweet when he wants to be and will put up with far more hugging and cuddling than my other cats, and he's very smart and curious, too. He greets me when I come home from work every day like I was gone for a month, sleeps in my bed with me every night, and follows me around meowing his head off if he thinks I'm going to sleep without laser-pointer-chasing-time. He's 9 but chases that laser like he's 9 months. He also sits on my lap and watches figure skating with me sometimes. He actually looked away from Mikhail Kolyada's popped Lutz as if he understood what happened, and started purring during his gorgeous spin!

That creepy stare, though... I could do without the psycho serial killer stare he occasionally gives me.

Fur baby bragging is always appreciated! He sounds like a dream kitty!

Great decision, I’m so excited for you getting to see Piper and Paul live in France!!! They’re the main reason I decided to go to Skate Canada fairly last minute, and believe me it was all worth it. Looking forward as always to your reports!

I booked last thing today (hotel), I am shocked by myself as I am not the spontaneous type at all. But since sunflowers idea planted itself in my mind (pun intended!), I just could not let it go. This is the only occasion like this and I would regret not going much, much more than going and make a dent in my savings. I will write as much as possible and will post my crafty gifts:)

Going to France to cheer for P squared is never a wrong choice! :hap10:

The announcement banner is the exact same shade of yellow as those trousers. I haven't stopped thinking about them all day because it's such a pure neon yellow. That yellow is going to haunt me in my nightmares.

One of the tracks played in spinning this morning (which I managed to drag myself to after waking up at the crack of dawn for men’s FS lol) was Queen’s Somebody To Love. It reminded me of Ross Miner’s brilliant silver medal winning FS performance at 2018 U.S. nationals and made me sad remembering how he was left off the Oly team :(

I feel like I should have gotten another beer and chatted up the young PhD candidate who was amused that I was streaming the NHK Grand Prix FD on my phone at the bar about his dissertation, but I have a skating class at 8 am and need to get some sleep and this is why I'm single.

You’re so lucky getting to see Piper and Paul as well as Kaitlin and Jean-Luc (my two favorite teams) live in the same event!!! I’ll just have to live vicariously through your reports :)

A little bit of Russian culture before the Rostelecom Cup: I can't bring myself to vote for Yuzu in the poll about who will win gold, because I don't want to jinx him.

The whole line-up is actually so fitting my taste for this season's programs it is not even funny: PSquared both programs, Kailtin and Jean-Luc, Kevin, Jason, Bradie, Rika, Mai, Vikita, Vanessa and Morgan, Haven and Brandon, Alexandra and Dmitrii... I lucked out BIG time!

And after today's doctor visit he said I am not balding and I should stop thinking about that nonsense. There's hope:)

So lovelies, I need some serious good healing vibes. I broke my wrist skating this afternoon (going backwards and tripped on something and did the stupid thing of trying to break my fall with my hands) and so need all the healing energy I can get.
