Random Confessions

Before I forget and/or throw myself into making salad and pie for myself to celebrate alone tomorrow...I want to thank you all, the whole community, for 2022 spent together. Not physically, but united in our variety of emotions about all things skating. This year brought me so much joy derived from skating also because of GSers being here for me, being my enablers, enthusiasts and supporters of shenanigans happened in 2022.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU 🌻🌻🌻
Wishing you all safe and peaceful 2023. Let it be better one. And still full of skating (I already have plans plus thinking about another unplanned YOLO...lol).
Some of my favourite pics taken at events I attended live: JGP Ostrava, JGP Baltic Cup in Gdańsk, Warsaw Cup, GP Espoo and GPF. 2022 truly surpassed any expectations I've had regarding seeing skating live - I've discovered so much talent, experienced so much of amazing skating live, was able to show my gratitude FIFTY SIX times through flower crowns, met so many great people along the way...And with totally YOLO-ed GPF, I proved to myself that if there's possibility to go, it's ALWAYS worth to go.
I regret nothing, maybe not to give more crowns lol. And I definitely want more in 2023.

How come there's NOTHING I like when I have means to buy and when I actually LIKE something, I have no budget for it..?!
Another case is that I'm **blessed** by difficult feet to find shoes for, so it's always quite a process to go through.
...
Also. Had 2022 year summary talk at work few weeks ago, was very honest about my state, being discouraged, tired, unmotivated and...to my surprise, it hasn't backfired so far? I was prepared to bear consequences during raise/bonuses announcement, yet I got more than expected. This is a first and I'm a bit confused.

Shoes: a woman I knew in grad school wore a size 4. That was in the dark ages before online shopping was a real thing, and she said the only place she could find anything to fit was...wait for it...Saks. No idea how she afforded them, but she did have some seriously great shoes. :laugh2:

2022 summary/review: IMO, no need to be confused. Just enjoy your raise (which I'm sure you earned) and don't think about it. Besides, why look a gift horse in the mouth?

As for not having $$$ when you find something you really like, if it helps, you've got company: me! :console:

I've got myself a robot vacuum cleaner and it's the cutest thing. It's currently on its mapping run through the house and the cats and me are totally enthralled with it. I'm following it around and cheering it on and the cats are watching it intently. It's really good at getting around obstacles and onto the carpets.
My boyfriend is just shaking his head at my antics. Then again, he should be the happiest, because I usually bug him about vacuuming the house.

Where did the term cheesefest come from?
Cheese, being a synonym for corny, chintzy, what we would nowadays refer to as cringe. Sandra Loosemore, the original internet guru of figure skating, defined a cheesefest as:

"A made-for-TV pro, pro-am, or invitational competition with "cheesy" irregular rules and judging. Generally includes all team-format competitions, competitions with celebrity judges, competitions where the skaters are paid appearance fees, and the like. (The term "cheesefest" particularly derives from one such event held in Wisconsin, land of cheese, which featured no rules and winners determined by polling the audience.)"

That event was The Great Skate Debate, held in May 1996 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (The Green Bay Packers football fans are known as Cheeseheads, which is also a nickname for Wisconsinites generally.) In a Usenet discussion of the event, Sandra suggested an alternative name: "Cheesehead's Choice Popularity Contest." Of all the weird and wacky professional events spawned by the knee-whacking of 1994, this one was notable because it was the first judged by the audience members. Videos are available on YouTube, if you're interested in what this looked like.

Cheese, in the sense of cringe, was used in internet discussion of figure skating prior to "Cheesehead's Choice," and the term "cheesefest" came along a few years after, in the late nineties.

So basically, "cheesefest" = cheesiness + the explosion of skating popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s + a dash of Wisconsin.

(I just spent the afternoon reliving the good ol' days of internet figure skating fandom. I didn't know that rec.sport.skating.ice.figure was still accessible, much less searchable!)

Haha I love my robot vacuum cleaner! It IS fun to watch and you don't have to do anything except shut the bathroom and wardrobe doors so he doesn't get stuck in there.

Mine's a Samsung so I call him Sammy.

I put one of my stuffed Pusheens on it, which was fun.

Can the cats ride on it?🤫
I wondered about that as well. It has a big button on top, which sends it to clean everything when pressed. I'm sure sooner or later a cat will climb on top of the robot when it's just sitting there at its charging station. If they press the button by mistake, they will have the surprise of their cat lives.

At the moment though, they are having more fun with the packaging than with the robot...

We called ours Lurchi, which is Austrian slang for dust bunny. And no, it's not pronounced the way you native English speakers think. ;)

If any of them rides the robot, it will be my black boy. He is a little daredevil, but also, dare I say it, not the most intelligent of kitties.
I do love me some black kitties and IMO, cats and Roombas are a match made in heaven. I'm surprised that Roomba hasn't done a TV ad with a kitty riding around on one of them!

Re: packaging, have y'all met Maru? He's NEVER met a box (or any type of container) that he won't try to get into.

Sadly, Maru is getting to be a senior citizen these days. The video above is fairly recent, but this is the one that started it all for me; it still makes me laugh! :laugh2:

I wonder if there is a young Maru-in-training😁

Popping up to say that skaters who are reaching out to me to say thank you for flower crowns are making my depressed/fatigued state so much better. It happened again yesterday and it made me feel that it's maybe not that stupid to craft those things and carry them around, often not being even sure whether I'll give something:)

Your flower crowns are a highlight for those watching as well as for the skaters. Bravo! :cheer: :bsplit: :party2: :cheer:

Happy International Women's Day. Here's to life bring easier and kinder, smiling more often with lots of reasons to do so and to be surrounded with good.
All my crafting flowers for you.
It was kinda ??? not receiving a peep of kind words about that day at work though (but I'm definitely not surprised, wouldn't be even if only certain women in my department received greetings). But - I went on long walk, bought myself flowers and Raffaello chocolate, ordered 2 pairs of shoes, leather jacket and wide leg trousers (coming back to office comes veeery quickly...) and ordered bunch of homeware.
Kindness and appreciation is best practice when done by yourself. To yourself.
