Russian world champion team

Sokolova 56.44
Ievleva 46.34
Gerbold 45
Turenko 43.48

Composite Results (Combined SP + LP Scores)
1. Sokolova 152.59 (95.05 for long)
2. Gerboldt 131.09 (86.09 for long)
3. Ievleva 126.44 (80.10 for long)

(Btw I don't vouch for these. This is just a translation from the forum that hasn't been verified.)

Wow, Sokolova, she is always fun to watch. Looks like a slap in Russian federation chairman's face.

In view of the fact that her score is about 25 points less than her PB, I'd say it's more of a pat than a slap.

I'd say that short program score would be enough to beat Julia Sebestyen's SPs at both Cup of China and Cup of Russia. So she hasn't quite reached her past level of skating proficiency, but it's a bit better than her GP results ;-)

It is my understanding that Martynova will not be sent to Worlds, just Junior Worlds. So it will probably be Sokolova and Gerboldt or Ievleva. I'd say the two Ladies' spots for Russia are still pretty much in jeopardy.

No slap at all, quite the opposite, IMO. Apparently that strong public "pep talk" by Piseev was exactly what Sokolova needed, LOL.

What happened to Gryazev? I thought that he was skating for a spot as well.

Dobrin (a very good up and coming skater) will do well in Worlds but he will not come near: Joubert, Preaubert, vdPerren, Takahashi, Oda, Buttle, Maybee(if he is in it), Verner, Lysacek, Weir.

Perhaps, he will make top ten if one of the above listed falls apart. I think he should go to Arrowhead and work with Arutunian.

Anna posted at FSU that Vladimir Piseev (head of the Russian federation) mentioned something to the effect that they will wait till Junior Worlds is over before "finalizing" their World team, which means that Arina Martinova and perhaps Sergei Voronov may still be considered if they do well in Obertsdorf next week.

Anna also posted that Griazev is apparently ill.

According to a Russian forum, it has been announced that Sokolova and Gerboldt will be sent to Worlds. So apparently Martinova will not be considered, regardless of her results in Jr. Worlds. And I don't know that Voronov would be considered over Dobrin anyway, unless he wins Jr. Worlds and Dobrin falls four or five slots down in the LP at this event.

Gerboldt went to Worlds 2006 and didn't make it to the FS. She is a very beautiful girl, but she is incredibly inconsistent: 12th at Russian Senior Nationals, 9th at Russian Junior Nationals. So because she finished 2nd at the test skate, she's going to Worlds? Gah!

It's what I read that was supposedly "reported"...but I don't think a link the actual news item was included, so perhaps it is just rumor at this point.

I suspect that if Martinova does well at JW, she will replace Gerboldt.

Gerboldt is 17 and will turn 18 at the end of next month. She's never competed in the JGP (she was scheduled last season and this season, but never got to go). Her first tries at internationals were last year: 10th at JW and 26th at Worlds. It just boggles the mind that the Russians don't give their young skaters a shot at the easier competitions, but send them out to debut at major internationals, then 'punish' them by withdrawing them from JGP assignments.

According to this, Petrova/Tikhonov AND Kawaguchi/Smirnov will go to worlds...Mukhortova/Trankov will also go if Maria is healed by then, otherwise it will be Obertas/Slavnov.

Ladies, Sokolova has earned her place. Gerboldt will go unless Martinova does well at Jr. Worlds, then it will be her.

Men, because Dobrin won but did miserably (3 falls in LP, 115 points), it is more likely that Griazev will go. But they will watch the results of Jr. Worlds for Voronov as well.

So basically, nothing still has been "finalized".

Do you know how K&S did at this competition? More details will be welcome. I sort of like this pair.

I didn't read any PBP, just saw the results and the commentary on the press conference as to who will go to worlds.
