Sasha's "new" ending pose

Besides- think about this. Even if that "pose" was planned, she DID slip on her blade, making her "descent" onto the ice much faster, making it appear to be a fall.

But in all, I think it was supposed to be a standard ending that turned dramatic when she lost control.

Not only did I see it as a fall, I took Sasha's reaction to it as one of huge relief that she wasn't hurt. She looked very thankful as she said the "Oh my God" line. I don't think there is any way she could or would end her LP that way.

You know, for a split second I actually thought she hurt herself because she wasn't getting up.

So did I! Especially since she had her eyes closed in the shot of her on the ice. I was starting to get worried.

Well, it certainly wasn't a light fall...it could have been a natural reaction to the pain she was feeling...

I thought it was a look of shock/surprise more than anything. I don't think she was expecting to go down like THAT!

What Sasha did after she fell was mime Juliet stabbing herself (that's how the play ends). Quick thinking!

If it wsn't a fall, I doubt the ending will be kept for eligible competitions. Last I heard, lying on the ice at any point during a routine (not just the ending), is illegal, and would warrant a deduction. The last time I actually heard mention of it was Olympics in 2002. Paul Martini noted of A&P than in their opening FD pose, Gwendal Peizerat was almost, but not quite lying on the ice. He sais that actually lying down would be illegal. I don't know if the rule changed with COP, but I think if it had, we would have already noticed a return to dying on the ice (especially by ice dancers).

Loved everything about the program. Loved it, loved it.

It was a great program, and the fall was planned, but I think she lost an edge on the way down and landed in the right spot, but harder than she wanted to.

I somehow think so too. After all, look how she ended her first program- on the ice as well.

I don't think the fall was planned. I don't think it was supposed to be a fall at all. She may have had a new ending that ended with some dramatic pose on the ice, but if you look at stills from the video, she lost her edge and fell. She was a lot closer to the ice so it would appear as if she was going for a dramatic pose on the ice and fell instead. But her legs were in an ungainly position even for her so that had to have hurt a little bit. Even though that happened, she did an amazing job of covering it. Good for her!

I think that's what the original poster hinted at- she didn't plan the FALL per se, but she might have planned the ENDING POSE. I don't think any of us dispute that she fell, though.

I sorta can't believe that there is such a long debate over whether Sasha fell. She clearly did! Her spin goes all wobbly and then she falls. Watch the tape if you don't believe it. She did cover it well, but it was a fall, no doubt.

Isn't that what artistic expression is all about??

I am not seeing how everyone can be saying she "really saved that ending!" I thought it looked like an obvious error, she landed in a very ugly position and I don't think she "saved" anything. If any other skater had done what she did everyone would be pointing out such clear mistake, but somehow because its Sasha, its okay? It was a mistake. More proof that even in a silly, exhibition-style competition she cannot keep it all together.

Yeah, it was a mistake, but she did cover it up well. How about any of US try to do that Y-spin? Pretty darn hard!

IMO people are too critical. It was a cheesefest. Watch it for fun. Don't criticize. I'm glad to see Michelle back, I'm glad Sasha did well, etcetera. Why the hate? It's just all in fun!

My point is that it was a mistake and that I didn't think she covered it well. It's not hate, its what I saw. A major error that fans are too willing to brush off with "but she covered it up so well! Only Sasha can make a mistake look that good!", but I don't think there was anything good looking about it.
