Satoko Miyahara

I am late to the Japan Nationals party (just caught up just now XD) so here's my belated Yaaaaaaay congrats Satoko on winning Nats! :yahoo:

Congrats Satoko! Victory in a row for 3 years!
You are a Ace of team Japan! Your constantly stable performance is a big strength. How hard training you are keeping… i respect you from bottom my heart.
Keep it up! Satoko!

Congratulations to Satton on her 3rd National title! I love her works with Tom Dickson and would love it too if she'd work with him for both her programs next season. Especially if she's going to retire after PyeongChang Olympics which I have no doubt she'll be on the team for.

Looks like she skated to Hernando’s Hideaway at MOI. Chris Reed was her Butler! I need to see this.

She would turn 20 after the olympics... I never thought about her retirement. I guess it depends on many factors, a biggie being how she does and/if she medals. She just looks so little that I keep thinking she is younger than she is.

Hope she can take a bit of rest now for whatever aches and pains she has...

:eeking: Well I hope she won't... she'll still be 19 at the Olympics.

a bit late but CONGRATULATIONS SATTON: The Tiny Queen of The Universe!!! for your 3rd national title!!! :yahoo::hap10: she keeps defying odds and delivers time and time again!! (okay, she had a step out and couple URs but still ) i am still sad that Yuzuru wasnt there to be her buttler but i am glad she had one
and why are we talking about retirement already?!? NOO! she is still so young :agree:
btw, congratulations for 100th page!!!! :yahoo::hap57: and thank you everyone for providing many updates :thank:

Yes for 100 pages :yes2:

What do you mean she got a couple of URs I thought they overlook her URs in Japan and inflate her to the roof :drama::biggrin:

Congratulations for winning the title at the Nationals three years in a row. She skates beautifully. I am still amazed at her mental and physical strength. I meant, all these competitions...yet she still manages to deliver.

Although i am quite disappointed with the lack of media coverage. I meant yes they did celebrate her but I cannot help but feel that she is overshadowed by coverage about Mao or Marin. Perhaps i am mistaken or maybe I don't search for the videos deep enough (i searched mainly YouTube with her Japanese characters), but she didn't seem to be the main star in most videos i found with her name on the titles. (Please allow me to clarify that i am not hating Mao or Marin. They are also incredibly talented, but in Satton i also personally see fighting spirit that i admire). I wish I could see more of her :)

And hopefully she won't retire after 2018.

My personal opinions folks, no ill intention whatsoever please.

Keep fighting Satton!!!

You're right, there's a blatant lack of media coverage for someone who won Nationals three times in a row, the first skater to do so since Mao Asada (2006-2009) - they didn't even mention this. I just finished watching the gala and once again, Mao (who wasn't invited) and Marin got more coverage than the champion. They push Marin as the future star of Japanese figure skating, Satoko is just there making the transition. Many people on this forum have said so and the media agrees.

Congrats Satton!
I'll be praying for Satoko (and Boyang's) health for doing so many competitions in the second half of the season :drama:

i loveeeeeeee it  Tom doesnt need to choreograph her both programs, Stephane can do one :agree: but Satoko, you can not hide your lips when you put on a lipstick

Do you think this could be her new SP for next season? I really like it (I think she's skating to the Rosemary Clooney version). I like sassy Satoko!

(Although it would've been touching to see her skate to "One More Try" again, given George Michael's untimely passing.)

Sounds like Ella Fitzgerald to me

No, it won't be her SP. But whatever music she'll choose I hope it's not going to be from the warhorse repertoire seeing as it's the Olympic season.

Before taking the ice Sunday, Miyahara’s coach Mie Hamada ordered her to “go for it and win this thing,” which might have accounted for Miyahara seeming a bit tight during her performance.

On the second of her combination jumps, Miyahara underrotated the maneuver and lost her balance.

“Overall, I was too hesitant,” Miyahara reflected later, her dissatisfaction putting a damper on the joy of winning a third straight crown.

Hamada had her reason for her straight-shooting instruction — it is to help make Miyahara mentally stronger. She used the example of soccer to explain her method, saying that any player can score if none is marking them, but what makes a player like Lionel Messi special is that he can find the net with three defenders around him.

Next spring’s world championships will serve as the qualifier for national and regional places for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which will likely present a different atmosphere between Miyahara and her rivals than she has had up to last season.

Hamada wanted Miyahara to experience a similar pressure at the All-Japan meet. “I want her to be aware of being the pillar [for Japan],” Hamada said.

Interesting indeed, Hamada sensei had a point.
As the reigning Japanese lady champion and most reliable skater, eyes are set on her to lead the ladies team at the Olympics next season. The pressure and atmosphere will be special next year. Her high focus and nerves of steel will be put to a much bigger test than before, especially knowing just how deep the JP lady field will be with more skaters (like Marin, Kaori and Yuna who will go senior next year) being potential choices for 2018...
