It's exactly the opposite for me. Which is why I generally think this kind of judging is a bit ridiculous. I mean because it's all so subjective. A performer can captivate you without necessarily making you clap or jump in your seat.
I agree with you, but the thing here is that Johnny and Evan are two different kinds of performers. I love Johnny, and the way he skates, the way he interprets not so "in Your Face", it almost feels as if we were watching from a distance. It is more reserved, yet it is interesting to watch, at least for me. I also like expresive skaters (like Yagudin, Lambiel, Joubert, Verner, Takahashi, etc.), but there are others that sometimes seems to have a fake energy or happiness, as if they were trying too hard to convey an emotion, so it doesn't look natural.
