Actually no....Shibs would have 70.63, they would be virtually tied with C/B though at 70.80.

Hey you know how much I love the Shibs. I will root for them even when everyone seems to be all doom and gloom on them.

But I'm ok with C/B being in front, their SD was great...

Base value
Meryl and Charlie as well as Madison and Evan achieved a virtually perfect base value with all level 4 elements, BV = 32.00. Maia and Alex and Madison and Zach's had BV at 30.50 with both getting one level 3 element. Lynn and Logan got one more level 3 element (twizzles and step sequence) to be at 29.50.

Grade of execution
Not surprsingly, Meryl and Charlie had the highest GOE at 7.64. Lowest GOE was 1.07 for both of their polka sequences. HIghest was their step sequence at 2.57. Maia and Alex got solid GOE as well. Their 6.14 GOE included 2.29 on their step sequence and 1.07 on their twizzles. Lowest was .71 for their second polka Chock and Bates were next in GOE at 5.87. Highest GOE was 1.86 for their step sequence and lowest was .79 for their first polka sequence. Madison and Zach's 4.85 GOE included two +1.00 GOE in their twizzles and lift. Their lowest GOE was .50 with their second polka. Lynn and Logan, with a 3.94 GOE, only had one element earn more than 1.00, their step sequence which earned 1.29. Their second yankee polka got GOE of just .29.

Name of the game---base value matters. As i've said for a while, it comes down to the levels.

I disagree. It's less about them and more that their competitors have improved. I knew there was a possibility that Chock and Bates would surpass them due to their ability to hit the levels. The Shibs have struggled to hit the levels, so they were able to capitalize on that. But if you look at the grade of execution, the Shibs did better than C/B there, an indication that hte judges still believe they execute the elements quite well.

I think the Shibs are struggling because they are challenging themselves. That's not a bad thing. Unlike many others, I think this SD is a great step for them -- they probably could have went the easy way out and do Mary Poppins, but I like the fact they're trying to be abstract and I actually think their reworking of the dance worked really well and I think it could score well as they get more comfortable with it.

Yes the Shibs did not score as well at Nationals as they did last year, but I also feel that the 2 less points in PCS was merited because I don't think they performed out that SD out as they did with their Latin dance last season.

Wow for C/B very happy for them. I thought for sure the Shibs would be in second place. Very close between the 2nd and fourth place finishers,
anything can happen in the FD.

Meryl and Charlie what can I say, sounds like they skated a beautiful SD.

Looks like a lot of level 4s according to the protocols- has everyone improved that greatly since the GP circuit, or were they generally lenient tech callers this time?

I think maybe the Shibs need to break up and find other partners. They are limited to what they can skate too. Plus Maia needs to go beyond portraying herself as the wholesome niceness princess and take some chances.

I think they'd do worse with other partners. It's not like they've done badly; they have a world bronze medal! And they aren't doomed to third place, a lot can happen in the FD, and even if they do get third they're still going to Worlds..

Like I said earlier scores for teams 2-4 are very close. Anyone of these teams could win Silver. Cuz the Gold is spoken for.

I am so dissapointed Hubbel & Donahue are 4th. They are my favorite U.S dance team and they arent going to Worlds. I knew the Shibutanis did not have a lock on 2nd place this year. They were going to challenged for that spot. They arent in strong enough standing internationally now to be a lock over other teams capable of top 10 at Worlds (which is all the Shibutanis are capable of these days as well).

I hope the Shibutani's are knocked off the podium. Just too boring and their stock is only declining Internationally anyway. Alex needs a new partner. Maia on the other hand, sorry she is just not that good.
