Sergei Voronov

I was there and enjoyed his program so much!

Me too...I haven't had time to post until now, but I was just so very happy for him! Honestly, I wasn't surprised that he did better than Max and I figured he could probably end up in 4th or 5th, given the strong competition, but I noticed in the predictions game that very few people put him up there. Shame...seeing those beautiful jumps and how expressive he was live was wonderful...and it made me so happy to go back and read all the positive comments on the SA threads here. He is constantly getting written off or forgotten about in favor of the younger guys, but he is still in the game and I hope he sticks around for awhile longer. Go silver fox!

I may be quite late to the party, but I'm jumping on the Sergei train! I really did enjoy him. He skated with emotion and really seemed to be enjoying himself out there. I love being close to the ice so you can really see the skaters' faces. I'm so used to sitting up in Level 300 with my oxygen mask on, that this was quite a treat to be so close.

How about a repeat of the Skate America program?! :yes2: Is that too much to hope for? He really skated from the heart, and I think that's why he did so well. Best of luck in the FS.

It was a relief to see him land his 4T-3T again. But I'm surprised he only got level 3 spins as he is usually pretty consistent with level 4s there. And looking at the score breakdowns, it's quite clear the judges are not cutting him any slack. It's frustrating to see how different skaters are treated by judges sometimes. :bang: Especially since I think he's made visible progress with his artistry, but he's one of those skaters who will unfortunately always have that "just a jumper" label, I guess. That said, I think he still has a pretty good shot here for a bronze, as Daniel is highly inconsistent. Good luck to him.

Excellent news everyone! (Well except for Daniel Samohin!) Sergei skated it out of the park and despite Zayaking got the bronze!

It was a totally awesome skate - he did one jump in front of the judges that was amazing. I do love it when they bring it to the judges!

Three cheers for Grandpa Voronov! :hap10:

I am so happy he won the bronze medal at Cup of China. It really seemed like that he enjoys being out there and skate. I remember seeing him live at Euros 2014 and I suddenly realised there how beautifully he skates - it is something that I haven't seen in television before. It looks like the older generation of Russian skaters have a massive inspiration from Russian ballet, especially their hand movements, posture and of course the choreography (it is also visible in the youngers' generation but not as much).
Sergei's jumps are elegant, tight and he always lands them in a confident way..like he never stumbles.

Congratulations and can't really wait for cheer him at other competitions this season.

He looked so down last season and was on the verge of quitting. I'm very glad he didn't. :) I hope his PCS can keep going up now that he's been skating so well this season. Of course there was a big points gap between 2nd and 3rd, and there is still room for improvement. But as it stands I think he really deserves to go to Euros and hopefully Worlds. He's well ahead of Kovtun and Petrov so far this season.

Very happy for Sergei, so well deserved. They try to write him off, but he's shown he is the number one Russian man this season (and I do like Max a lot as well). If everything goes well at Nationals, I'm looking forward to Europeans this year. Anything is possible (apart from the gold, maybe). :cheer2:

Raven flies!!!:clap::hap10::luv17:
Totally want a silver at Euros! Its possible!!

Congrats to Sergei for winning the bronze, edging ahead of Max Aaron. He's looking really strong this season and his jumps are so light and airy. He does a great job with that Muse piece. I guess with Menshov retired, he's now the elder statesman of the Russian men!

Congrats to Sergei, for his FS and his bronze medal ! :hap93:

I am looking forward to Europeans too... and to World. :peace:

So pleased that Sergei got bronze at COC! :yes2: His FS there and at SA were among the most memorable for me at those competitions. He has such an engaging personality when he skates, along with wonderful jumps when he lands them, I find it impossible not to root for him! I hope his success so far this season gives him the confidence to continue performing consistently, and that he has great success the rest of the season.

He's having a laugh...and quite deservedly so. Like I said, I sooooo hope he'll do well at Europeans!
