Sergei Voronov

Given that there have been so many withdrawals, it has been really fun to see who will "step up to the plate". Grandpa Voronov has definitely been one of them. Many congratulations to him for his bronze medal. Can't wait to see him at the GPF. I know he is really happy to be going to the party!

Another good interview with Goncharenko. Most of it is about Sergei. She really polished him into a diamond :) She says he has a pretty good 4Lo, but they don't want to overload him by trying to add it to the program, as I understand it. I am very glad that they aren't taking unnecessary risks, but I would love to see that 4Lo someday.

Goncharenko seems like a really good coach. Glad she and Voronov have teamed up and are getting some much deserved success.

So happy for Sergei's being able to keep his focus, despite the unfortunate circumstances, and medal at Skate America! I hope he'll just continue his focus and get even better at GPF and beyond. I'm a little nervous for him for GPF, but I think that even if he, heaven forbid, has an off day, he's already shown the Russian Fed that he deserves serious consideration for the OG team.

Grands Prix Final :
Sergei is 5th after the short program, with scores similar to the ones he had at Skate America.
Not that bad ! :agree:
Go on, Sergei ! :cheer2:

Considering he had to fly RUS > JPN > RUS > USA > RUS > JPN all in the space of a month, I would imagine he is a bit tired, so a pretty respectable performance, even if not perfect.

Well Sergei came fourth in the GPF, but his program was amazing! It's clear how much he loves the music and his cheorography and all that stuff. His jumps were clean, his smile bright and he engaged the audience!

I'm crossing all my fingers and toes that he can kill it at Russian Nats and Euros and get that second spot so he can have a fairytale ending to his career!

I salute you, Sergei! :agree:

I couldn't agree more with anonymoose_au! He was the only one skating clean today and he was the one with the most vibrant and engaging programme. Fair bloody play to him. He needs to be on the team!!!

Me too! Very impressed with him this season, till now he was under my radar, but his FS suits him so well!

I think that his chances to get to Oly are very big aside from what will happen at Nats, important is that he has done so well internationally this year and the team will need a stable skater like him.

He was robbed. He should have medaled. But ok... he has shown that he is capable of doing well. Let him go to the Olympic. He deserves that.

Agreed :disapp:. Hopefully the chronic underscoring only motivates him more. At least the audience was very appreciative.

Sergei's performance was my favorite of the fs competition and for me the most exciting. I adore Mikhail too, but I would not have been at all unhappy if their places were switched. At this point, I think Sergei would get more benefit from a medal placement in terms of making the team. Still, fourth in a GPF is very solid and shows he is deserving of an OG spot for his consistency alone.

AMAZING performance!!!

& he should skate at all comps in Japan:biggrin:
The crowd SERIOUSLY in love with him!
& rightfully so!

I reeeally don't get how he can be considered boring:noshake: like at all

I'm a little late to the party but I just went back to watch Sergei's FS from the GPF and WOW. I wasn't really that inspired by his short so I didn't watch the free live -- what a mistake that was! Especially once he hit his final step sequence, his energy and engagement with the crowd was electric! I really love seeing skaters hyping the crowd up, I literally started clapping in my house when he gestured to the stands during his steps. Too bad the scores didn't reflect the love the crowd was giving him, he really earned that standing ovation. I know this isn't really how the sport works so I can't resent it too much, but I wish that there could be a little more reward for engaging the audience. With a flagging fan base, we could use more skaters who really get people excited like Sergei did here! A girl can dream, I guess.

Welp, I'm sold on him now, and will be rooting for him to become an Olympic Athlete from Russia!

Good luck to Sergei at the Russian Nats this weekend! :cheer::cheer: I really really REALLY hope he can get a spot for the Oly Games. Fingers crossed. :)

Dropping by to add my Cheer to Sergei! Good luck to him this weekend, I hope he slays! :dance3:

Totally shouting for Sergei this w/e! Not only does he deserve a spot at the Olys, but I also want to see him live at Europeans next month!!! :cheer:
