Seems that every time I see him, his hair looks different!
About the language, I think Shoma does ok when they're working most of the time. And they do communicate a lot through gestures. Many times Alex shows him the wrong and the right way to do something. Or for the setup of one of the jumps he was saying , "No 1-2-3. Yes 1-2."And for the loop he would demonstrate the foot positions for the take off...One of the moms at the rink has lived in the U.S. for quite awhile but is from Japan. She was helping out with translations and helping Mrs. Bambi. I know there was some confusion about the time for his individual lessons, and she was helping to clarify. It's a very friendly atmosphere and everyone seems to help out.
I'm not sure if it is my imagination, but Shoma looks really happy to me. I don't know if it's that he thrives on all that difficult training, did Nationals give him a confidence boost, or is he happy to see Satoko again?! (or maybe all 3?)
The best thing for me about the new costumes and the U.S. training? It shows again that they have a plan to try to keep him from stagnating in the second half of the season. And who knows if it's Team Yamada or his family or his manager or everybody.

Yes, please skate clean. Why not do a 4T-2T in the SP rather than a 4-3. I think he gets too nervous when he ups the tech so much.
Thx for clarifying that costume. I took one look and said that CAN'T be his new FS costume. It's so not him! I saw the lavender shirt up pretty close at a Sk Amer practice, and it is gorgeous. The detail on it is incredible, especially the sleeves and all the sparklies. I would say put the lavender shirt with the black pants. The blue is pretty decent though too.

But well, not impossible you're right MaiKatze, talking about the unitard. Skating clothes can be sometimes a mess to take on and off... I remember struggling to put a skating dress on, and then "oh damn I need to pee"....

That FP costume though... I just wish he'll bring the old one back. The old one just looks so good that it makes the new one look even worse. At least he should destroy the orange stripe. I actually have more proboems with that stripe than the Dai chicken arm tribute.

Shoma makes any costume look good, but I liked the old ones so much better. Wow, barely got through mourning the death of the {{sigh}} purple pants (and beautiful shirt), and now no more gorgeous FS costume. :sad4: 
That costume was a work of art, and I thought the most beautiful men's costume of the season. I believe it was 2 pieces, because after the Lombardia Trophy, Jason came running to the bus with Shoma's jacket that he had forgotten! I think the jacket and the shirt underneath were one piece. (?) I wonder if maybe it was TOO beautiful and was a distraction! Also I thought it came up very high on his neck and wondered if maybe that bothered him.

What do you think will happen in the future now that Nathan Chen really arrived on the scene? He won over Shoma's almost clean skate at GPF already with one quad less. Where does Shoma stand as Japan Number 2? I'm afraid the situation is a bit like with Anna Pogorilaya who is clearly Russia Number 2 and because of the Number 2 status has to work much, much harder than Skaters who are Number 1 in their country in comparison. Do we have to worry or do you think the technical difficulties will bring Nathan's PCS on par with Shoma's soon? If so, I'm afraid that Shoma will end up off podium at Worlds again.
Definitely worried. Shoma's JSFs number 2, and logically, like you said, tends to receive more humble scores. I just hope Shoma's not too shook by that shockingly amazing skate and trying another quad. Really, the Oly season's up next year, and I'd rather see Shoma complete 2 clean programs than upping his BV. To me, having two perfect programs definitely gives him a much better chance at contending for a medal than having a horrid fall with a +COMBO. I can't believe that 2 weeks ago, I'm complaining about the 4Lo being unnecessary and way too risky, and now actually hoping he'd include it at Worlds and hit it on point.
Still, if Shoma delivers two clean programs at Worlds (cross fingers
), he'd still be in contention. And talking about the PCS gap, Nathan himself will still have a trouble with it too, I think. The situation will be better for him now that he's the 5 quad king, but up against the veterans like Patrick and Javier, he'd still be marked below, so Shoma's situation is hopefully not too troubled.

Shoma needs to play his own game and not try to be Nathan. I'm still in a state of shock over the tech of Nathan's program and happy that I was there in person to witness history. It was absolutely insane, and I honestly lost track of whether he had done 4 or 5 quads! But Nathan is a natural jumper, Shoma is not. Two clean programs would be much better for Shoma. Nathan still needs to work on his artistry, and I'm sure he will have improved by World's, but he still has much to improve on. He has taken ballet since he was 4? 5?, so I think down the road he will be totally unstoppable. For me, Shoma is way ahead of Nathan in artistry. Of course genetics and luck come into it too. They both (Shoma and Nathan) desperately NEED to stay injury free, as do all the other skaters.
I would love for Shoma, Yuzu, and Nathan to be on the podium again -- in any order at both 4CC and Worlds!

I think that a clean Shoma is definitely in contention - but a medal may not happen right now if Javier, Yuzuru, and Nathan are clean.

The men's event at 4CC will definitely be interesting - at least how the PCS is scored if Shoma, Yuzuru, and Nathan are clean. I do think that if Shoma skates as well as he is able to, his PCS should be higher than Nathan's. I would argue that Shoma's programs are a bit better - Polovtsian Dances (Nathan's LP music) is a hard piece "to tell a story" with. And I think Shoma's spins are a bit better than Nathan's.
I will admit that I will be flabbergasted if Nathan does his Nationals LP, 4CCs LP, and Worlds LP each with those same 5 quads.

^^^Nathan was totally in the zone with the 5 quads. Two years in a row at Nationals, his artistry just didn't do anything for me, if there was any. But he is a driven, competitive young man and so hard working. If he stays healthy, and (please!) doesn't fall too often on the hip that was operated on, he will make things very interesting.
