ACI is the GP competition I like the least, I wouldn't mind Shoma going there coz it would mean Yuzu won't go at this one, lol. :)
If GP of France is really in Grenoble, it's good for me since I live in Lyon. ;) But I'll wait to see who's going first before making any plan. I don't think this GP will suck as much as GPF in Marseille did, tho (impossible to do worse, anyway). At least, FFS finally got a new sponsor...

Nooo..don't feel that way! It's not your fault, Pika! I mean, I have no idea if it was really that bad. It's just hearsay, and even if it was, Shoma did good whenever he skated in France!

I know... But it's always sad when you only hear critics about an event, that was kind of "your event". We, french people or at least my relatives, are always enthusiastic because we love having competitions in our country, even with the flaws, and the terrible Fed we have. And it's disappointing when you can't share it with other people that's all... It may seem selfish because I know the GPF was a disaster... I have trouble expressing how I feel lol. But it's okay. :)

At least, FFS finally got a new sponsor...

Really ? Who's the new sponsor ?

Well, I did feel bad for all the figure skating fans, esp. since France is capable of organizing great sport events... but with such loosy federation, it's next to impossible.

The new sponsor is Craft, a brand for sport wear, apparently. Hopefully they won't screw up and loose this one too.

synesthesia, I loved magicaleggplant's review of the Loco program. It was great to see that she chronicled how it grew over the season. What a program. I also followed the link she posted to her earlier Skate America review and was surprised to see that I was in her photo she had posted of herself (where she has an eggplant covering her face!). Thank goodness I was holding up my Kindle and it blocked most of my face! :drama:

Omg, ouch! :laugh2: (Now that I know what your lavender blouse looks like I'll try to spot it on TV next time, hihi!)

@synesthesia
Yes, thank you. That review is really good. I don't think it's rude or something, she's just brutally honest. As we all are, because we want Shoma to improve. I think it's more than okay, to say this is something I don't like. Like I disliked LOCO before as well.

Yup, same! I'm in general the most critical and vocal in regards to my favourites' flaws for I've watched their skating enough to be able to point their weaknesses out and I'm invested in their improvement. I guess that's one of the reasons why I enjoy that blogger's posts so much apart from sharing many of her skating-related tastes/favourite skaters.

i did a video preview for Shoma's winter : https://youtu.be/0op0-ctPW1A

Nice preview! Sho's skating and Vivaldi are indeed a great match!

also Shoma apparently said to a fan that he had not learnt all the choreography for Turandot LP so it is gonna be a new version :)

Excellent news! Whew, what a relief!

ACI is not a grand prix. it is challenger event.. you are confused with SCI.

Can't wait to see the real thing, but this gives a great idea of what we might expect. Can't even imagine how awesome it's gonna be. Really hope Fluffy includes one of those moves from around 2:55 where he kind of goes down on one knee. It looks so cool...I expect to see a new and improved Turandot. :hpull: :handw: Let the costume speculation begin! Can't even begin to guess.

I totally get that. Was inclined to get into an argument about the german health system a few days ago in a thread. We all want a good image of our countries in the World. I think it's quite sad that the French GP event seems so empty. As far as I remember several times they were filled with school children, right? It's just a sad fact that this sport is not exactly popular, but the event in France seems the loneliest. CoC is not crowded either. *sigh* That's why my hope for Worlds in Rotterdam in 2020 is low. I think they'll probably choose Canada again.

Try not to feel too bad! People were making fun of Sk America's attendance without knowing the facts. Regionals were that weekend (for Nationals qualification) which meant that all skaters, coaches, and their families were out of town for the weekend. Also our baseball team (Chicago Cubs) was in the championship for the first time since 1908. Many people went to the games live, or people go to bars, house parties, church parties, etc. to watch. Bottom line - it was embarrassing, but the attendance was decimated by these 2 events. There may be other reasons why they had problems at the French events. Hard to know what goes on behind the scenes...I'll be anxious to see if Grenoble gets it!

I wonder what SKAM attendance will be this year as well because it's the day after Thanksgiving. I have a ticket (and it's Row A at that) but it'll really depend on who is showing up to determine if I'll go. C'moooon June!

Between the location, the holiday weekend, and the snow possibility, it will be interesting to see. Hopefully they have some skaters who are a big draw. I guess we'll know in 52 days! :angry1:

It may be lower - but I think it will overall be all right. There are plenty of people who will want to find something other to do that weekend than try to shop with 23,904,435,843,098 people.

^^^I would hope so and would love to have a great turn out. For those who have to fly there, it's kind of a bad weekend. Actually I would love to have both Nathan and Shoma there!

ETA -- Hooray, sounds like the debut of the new programs is coming soon at the May 26-28 Fantasy on Ice shows. :yahoo: :hap10: :dance3: :hap93: Go Lavender Prince! (oops, Guess I can't call him that any more!)

Some funny chat between Shoma and fans during piw.
1
Fan: Would it be possible that you skate to a program choreographed by Kanako?
Shoma: No! (Firmly)
Fan: ahhh (Pretend to leave)
Shoma: Absolutely no! (With a devil smile)

2
Fan: What do you guys think of the message “おつ" that Shoma left to Kanako?
Shoma and Kanako: laugh
Fan: is it always like that?
Kanako: I have really always been looked down upon by him. I am sorry. (Laugh)

3
Fan (presented two photo books to Kanako which contain photos of Kanako and Shoma): which photo book would you like?
Kanako: the black one, but I think Shoma would prefer the black one, so I will pick the white one then. Shoma would even say "photo with Kanako, I don't need them". He is so annoying.

Sibling relationship to a T.

This is the first year where I kind of pay attention to figure skating in the off-season, and I've got a question to all those veterans. In the Ice-Shows in Japan, like PIW, is it normal that the skaters talk to all the fans? It seems like they are giving presents and fans can engage with them and ask questions and take pictures and all that. How long does that take? And does everyone in attendance get a chance to get so close to their favourite, and do all the skaters stay and receive the love? Thanks for any answer! Cheers!

Each show is known for its different character -- one has live musicians, one has lots of singing, I think it's the Ice that always has a dance battle, one has many international stars. PIW is known for the skaters interacting with the fans. In fact that photo of Shomita with the heart shape sunglasses was taken at PIW. At Worlds, I think I mentioned a lady who showed me these gorgeous photos of The Winter Prince on her phone. She told me she took them at PIW. Can't imagine what they charge for the front row seats! Sigh. Shoma got tons of presents and flowers last year.
