Hello everyone! Thanks for all of the Shoma updates  So Shomita is at Glacier earlier than expected.

Belated Welcome Little Lady! :)

Well now I'm just confused. Glacier tweeted that Shoma would perform on Saturday evening. This really makes me appreciate our Chicago detective Arriba. She would know!

A couple of videos of Shoma and Takeuchi practicing. Here and here. :dance2:

Hehe I love the spins. Though the feed has an awful FPS rate, Shoma makes it look like a glitch. Very well centered.

His coach is Horoshi Nagakubo unless he changes it.

Current skaters under team Nagakubo
Sota Yamamoto, Tatsuya Tsuboi, Haruya Sasaki, Rika Hongo, Rin Nitaya, Yuhana Yokoi, Saya Suzuki
Ryuju recently switched his coach from Nagakubo to Onishi.

Uwaa good for him :'3 I wish I was there as well ;0; I had no idea you were allowed to cheer him on from the sides or practice yourself (?) I figure skate as well, but I wouldn't say I'm anything compared to shosho.

It was great to arrive home and find that a Japanese blizzard (also known as the Winter Prince) had blown into town! I was hoping he would bring his Hungarian elf costume, but no such luck! :hap85: :dance3: :clapper:   :hap10:

Here I was fretting about writing too much about his training during an Olympic year – well, I guess everyone has seen his training, so I don’t think it’s a big deal. As he said last year, jumps-jumps-jumps! He was doing some gorgeous rolling 3’s into 4T/3T, working on the picking for the 4F, and working on his lutz edge. If he did a 4Lz, I must have missed it. Seemed like today he had three separate lessons – 1 really early, 1 at around 10, and 1 at 1:30. I don’t know how he does it. I’d be wiped out, and he actually did look pretty tired when he was finished (understandably!) But through all that work, he still seems to keep his sense of humor and somehow remains intense but lighthearted at the same time.

He and Alex have these conversations that look so intense. I would just KILL to know what they’re saying (and HOW they speak to each other). I know, they speak figure skating, but still – they look like they’re talking-talking! So funny!…Thx to the 3 Kind Ladies I talked to today who found out from Mrs. Uno that Shomita is here until the 20th of August. (Nice to meet you 3 Kind Ladies). I had a chance again to tell Mrs. U. that I think Shoma is amazing. She actually did look very proud and said thank you!

When I arrived, Mrs. Uno was taking a video of Kotaro. Sho wasn’t on the ice. Not 100% sure why, but I understand the (Japanese?) media was there interviewing him at one point. Also Phil Hersh was there interviewing Alex and taking photos of Alex and Sho. I know Phil has a blog (called Globetrotting or something similar?) and hopefully there will be an article in the Chicago Tribune. (ETA - Turned out it was an article for Ice Network.

Was glad he used This Town as a warm up for one of his sessions. The run-through of Winter was wonderful. Ohhhhh myyyyy. We are really in for a treat with that program. Such a difference from Lavender! Whereas Lavender just started out so slowly and fluidly and continued to build, Winter seems fiery right from the beginning. I love it already!

https://pic.twitter.com/cHe2jeEaqx The new face is looking awesome. :points:

Sorry I forgot to answer your question about the Shoma "performance". I should edit my other post but am too lazy. :scard7: The tweet you are referring to was written on Aug. 12, and they are saying that Shoma was going to skate on Aug. 12 at 8:30 pm at Glacier.

This past weekend, Aug. 11-13, there was a competition put on by the DuPage Figure Skating Club. DFSC is not a place, it's an organization. So DFSC held their competition at Glacier. Shoma wasn't performing or competing. Since his time here in the U.S. is so precious, Alex gave him a lesson at 8:30 pm after the competition finished that evening. (That's actually pretty nice of Alex. He really tries to be super accommodating for Shoma.) Some people from the competition stayed to watch him, and others probably came because they saw the tweet...If I'm not mistaken, when you compete in U.S. Figure Skating, I think you may be required to be a member of a club. This particular club is the largest in the state of Illinois (300+ members?) and may be one of the largest in the U.S., although don't quote me on that.

ETA -- Those videos are hilarious! Looks like Laurel and Hardy! :laugh2:

Thank you Arriba for your detailed report! We are so lucky to have you here at GS! 😍

Arriba, thank you so much for sharing your experience! ✨oh my, got the autograph? 👏
Both Winter & Turandot have been improving, especially jump&combo&spin that makes us so excited.
If possible, can I borrow some photos in your twitter to show JP fans? 'if only you are ok'.
anyhow I'm happy that Arriba saw him, must be a treat to watch😁

Please do share my photos. I always put them out there hoping they will make people happy! I feel like many people are DYING to hear news about him!...Although I love watching the Winter Prince compete, I think I love watching him train even more. He is looking so good and so strong. And his new face is looking great too! I was truly embarrassed to ask him for his autograph. I wanted to last time he was here but just couldn't. I don't know why I worried though. He was just sitting there talking with Kotaro, so I said "Why not?!" Of course he was super nice and polite, as always.

Thank you Arriba, we all a bit worried abt his hard schedule plus hard training. Many'll be happy to see how he is there.
Great effort to get his autograph, wooo that's you, God give you exact timing💕
btw FOI reharsal's scheduled on Aug 24, still tight schedule❗

And here's 3A4T

(My brain kinda refuses to believe that's a 4T and not a 3T, he makes it look so easy!)

I love this! He really makes it look so smooth. Next season, with one less jumping pass, I wonder if he might risk this combo. The difficulty of a -4T combo isn't unfortunately rewarded in the system but it could do wonders for layout flexibility.

Yey, Arriba, thanks for the updates and clarification on what happened Saturday!! I love the whole "new face" appellation, his face really is changing right before our eyes. He was such a cute teen and now is turning into a handsome young man (wow, did that sound "auntie-like" or what?).

Just curious about this video posted by the Twitter user who posted the 4Lz (couldn't see that on the link), it seems Kenji said that Shoma is sexy several times, or maybe I misheard it for my own entertainment? 😁

I prefer the term "sex god":o:

j/k

Anyway, yes, I really was perplexed that Glacier streams the practices of Shoma. But ShoSho must've given his permission and doesn't seem to be overly secretive with his training, and doesn't mind people watching. Which is good. I think if you're too secretive with it all it just adds pressure and speculation when the real competitions come along. I'm so happy Arriba got that autograph and is now in the presence of the prince. Only 5 days left, I wonder if Shoma will return in September or October. It just feels too short a time. Haters gonna hate, but if Shoma wants to add the Lutz it's his prerogative. And I also think the judges love to see a skater challenging himself and improve over the season. Just remember the Loop last year. Yes, our Shoma is steadily climbing up the steps to the top of the podium. And keeps smiling while he's at it! :dance3:

Question. Is shoma getting a new coach or he's just invited to train in the Glacier? will he be training there for his upcoming competition?

His coaches are Machiko Yamada and Mihoko Higuchi. He trains jumps and other things in Chicago, probably because the coaches are more specialized than Yamada and Higuchi, especially concerning the jumps, where I presume that Fluffy and Yamada cannot help him much anymore at this level. Japanese skaters often go to train in America. I remember Chris commenting on Akiko Suzuki on Eurosport and telling us that she trained jumps at his rink in Chicago back in the 12/13 season.
