Regardless of whoever wins the Olympics, at the end of the day we know that just because a skater never won the Olympics, that does not mean they're not great.
Some skaters who are considered as among the greatest in history (like Michelle Kwan... hello demarinis!),
or the most memorable, never won the Olympics. I don't think skaters who won Worlds or the Grand Prix Final multiple times can be considered any less good than someone who won the Olympics once (although usually the Olympic Champion would have at least gotten a medal in or won those two other events previously). Also,
the performances of great skaters in the Olympics are not necessarily the ones for which they are best remembered (remembering Yuzuru's and Patrick Chan's (and Javier's as well) FS performances in the 2014 Olympics... ouch

This is despite the fact that they won Gold and Silver.). Thus, whether the Olympics will strongly affect how Shoma is viewed or remembered is still debatable and remains to be seen, but in the meanwhile, I'll just keep enjoying his performances and watch him get better in his skating without worrying too much about it.
