I love watching the Gala practices. The Sho and Yuzu duo and their antics just crack me up.

I predicted that Sho would skate to "See You Again". All of my prediction wishes in pairs, men, and ice dance have come true
this Olympics which is a first for me.

Does anyone know if Javi will be at the Gala? I did not see him in any of the clips.

Welcome, bangtaen, to the fanfest and the addiction that is Shomachka, Shomita, or the Winter Prince! Your symptoms are common here, lol. So impressed that you read all 500 pages in such a short amount of time. Let's all cheer for Shoma together! On to the gala and Worlds! [emoji16]

My wish gala program is La Vie en Rose, but since my vote doesn't matter, it's likely going to be This Town. Will it be the dark blue shirt, the true blue shirt, the gray printed shirt, the white shirt, the ehem short black shirt, or an Uno shirt? We're banking on an untucked shirt at least. ;-)

Welcome! Sounds like a bad case of Shoma fever to me. Ha! That's exactly what I did was read the whole fan fest. Except there certainly weren't 500 pages at that time. I think there were more like 60 pages. Seems like quite a few more people have fallen under the spell of the Prince since then...So now we have to wait until the gala - and we have the suspense of wondering what the gala program will be (I want La Vie En Rose but assume it will be This Town), and will he wear the world's shortest shirt.

ETA -- Oops, sorry! I sound like an echo of Latremu's post!

Arriba and Latremu lets not forget the "Calvins"!;)

Welcome bangtaen to GS and Shoma's FF. Always nice to greet new Shoma fans!

I'm loving seeing smiley (and sleepy ) Shomita . I'm still managing the jet lag and trying to catch up on all the media (was impossible while in Korea) but I'm looking forward to catching up on posting all my pics and videos. I really did have the best time. My boys got the job done and I'm so proud of them. I feel really really lucky to have been there and these games gave me just about all I could ask for.

OMG, there was a story according to the report.

Shoma tended to be isolated because of his English ability.

Then Misha came to shoma and played with him pushing,

Pushed shoma skated into yuzu's legs

Misha is a blessing to figure skater socialization. He speaks a ton of languages, he basically mobilizes everyone into doing tons of stuff, and he never lets anyone feel left out. I'm going to be sad when he does quit FS to be a full time choreographer. Though maybe he'll get to choreo galas instead.

Welcome back. So glad you had a great time in Korea. We missed you!

Looking forward to seeing your photos and videos.

I think I saw a photo of you and Dai on an Italian FS board at least I am pretty sure it was you.
I would have died and gone to heaven.

Misha and Boyang are our insiders. Will there be a banquet? We need Boyang livestreaming that. So glad they're all relaxed and having fun.

I did meet Dai! Was it this pic? I'm surprised it made some rounds, haha. It was during a zamboni break for the team free and I was talking with Kiches about how I was hoping to bump into him and then he just so happened to be standing like 2 feet away!! So random, but so awesome!! Needless to say I didn't hesitate to get a quick pic with him . I regretted not being able to meet him in Helsinki. I saw him rushing to an elevator at that time so I didn't bother him, but I'm really glad to have lucked out this time around.

Oh my god, I'm hyperventilating just at the thought of meeting him! Lucky you :) I saw him from the other side of the rink at Helsinki and wanted to jump up and down with joy :yahoo: :dance2:

Yes that is the photo! The poster wrote “lucky young lady”. Amazing the power of Dai from Korea to Italy!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum although I've followed figure skating for a quite a while (Yuzu draw me in :D) then Shoma entered the stage!

I've spent a couple of days reading threads on this forum and watching Shoma's youtube videos I'm a bit surprised by how much hate Shoma is getting in nearly every threads/youtube videos of past events and especially about his OG silver medal.
I know his technique is not perfect but so does other skaters. Does anyone know why?

I mean I keep telling myself they're just hating on him because they favour other skaters but It is so bad that it actually make me kind of sad for Shoma.
I hope he's being treated differently in Japan as I also thought most of his supporters are Japanese and doesn't really go to english speaking forum as much as other skater's supporters.

Welcome gftn!! So happy to see a new Shoma fan! You will find a lot of fun here!!

There are just so many haters who are sour and jealous because they thought their favourites must win by having only jumps, quads blah blah blah whatsoever, but they forgot this is about skating and Shoma's skating is one of the best, if not the best, among all the top men. He is also a great performer who commits 100% to his programs. Just ignore them, they are crazy and hysterical, crying here and there will not make their favourites win. Meanwhile we can enjoy the beautiful skating of Shoma! He surely is so adored in Japan and in the world too! Many fans (like us here) and commentators have expressed their love for Shoma! Let us all join together and kick all those haters!

Hope you will have a good time here!:hap10:

Welcome, gftn! I think I saw your post in the competition thread. Someone correct me if I'm wrong in some of what I'm about to say, I only became a fan around a little over a year ago. As far as I know, Shoma didn't really get much hate until last year, when he became a real threat for the gold medal at international events. It became really bad after Worlds 2017 because he was second to Yuzuru with only two points between them, despite Yuzuru doing a not too terrible (granted, not perfect) SP and a World-record breaking FS. Actually, I think some users in GS actually liked him up until he became a contender for the top. [emoji12] And yes, I'm talking about some of the harshest critics.

Jump-wise, Shoma is not a naturally gifted jumper. It took him some time before he could jump the 3S, and years (5?) before he could jump the 3A, which was his nemesis jump. He couldn't land that jump for years during his junior days, so that he wasn't winning during much of his junior years. On the other hand, he had really good skating skills and developed his spins also. I believe his PCS scores as a junior is still one of the highest for a junior male. In the summer before the 2014-15 season, he was advised by Takahito Mura to attempt the 4T, which he landed, then he finally understood how to do the 3A and landed it soon after. He included both in his programs that season and won the junior grand Prix and junior Worlds. And then as a senior, he was on every podium in every competition he attended except 4CC and Worlds 2016.

He doesn't have a regular jump coach (his lovely fluffy coaches are not jump coaches), so he works with Alex Ouriashev, Arriba's BFF [emoji12], in Chicago whenever he can (since he knows that his jumps are not ideal). Despite that, he was the first to land a 4F in competition and has now been able to include 4 different types of quads in various competitions. Yet he values improving his artistry the most. No doubt he's a hard worker and doing his best to become even better.

Haters will hate, we generally ignore them. Shoma rises above it all and just gets better, so they keep hating. Oh, and don't worry. He has lots of fans, it's just that many of them are not loud about their opinions. Just check out the number of views in this fanfest alone. We have people from all over the world here too, including from Japan.

Welcome again to our happy place! [emoji1]

Thanks nolangoh and Latremu for the welcome and explanation!

I know Shoma is a very talented skaters but sometimes struggle with jumps and I can accept that. I just wish he wouldn't get dragged so many times for the tiniest mistake because supposedly the skaters scored lower then him could take his place.

Anyway, has anyone watch this video from the skating lesson on youtube when they're talking about the olympic's men event? they invite a coach who's best friend with Brian Orser and he gave quite an interesting perspective on every skater although i think he's a bit biased towards American/Canadian skater but it's still fun to watch.

So happy to be with here surrounded by positive people!

Aside from being incredibly talented, Shoma is also so strong mentally. Yeah he makes mistakes, but he never allows himself to completely fall apart. Not many skaters have Shoma's fortitude and he doesnt get enough respect. Haters are going to hate, but at the end of the day it doesnt matter because the judges adore him :agree:.
