^^^When I looked closely, it seemed to me he was smiling as he nonchalantly did his special Shospin (zipping and spinning at the same time). Happens to the best! I'm sure in the U.S., someone would have been yelling "Your barn door is open!!!!"

I just saw vids of Shoma zipping up while performing.
It was shown on National TV right?
Poor boy, its kind of embarrasing.

This one is just local tv. There will be national broadcasts as well but who knows it might be edited or not.

Speaking about Shoma's spins (oh, we weren't speaking about his spins? that's a shame, because his spins in these three programs that he showed are amazing, and there are some very nice details there in terms of their coordination with music)...

I just read your article and, as always, enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and observations with us, they're so illustrative and complete. Congratulations, Dr. Hronop!

He was!! He stuck his tongue out, too, clearly not overly humiliated by it :'D https://twitter.com/nojimo/status/1010915624527151105

I noticed this and thought the way he managed the situation was even more charming. Thanks for sharing the pic!

Regarding Sho's SP, I just saw an interesting note on the inside of the Rodrigo y Gabriela CD: "A lot of people, when describing our sound, say we play flamenco. We don't. We blend a lot of styles into our playing but this area of music is not one of them." (my apologies if someone already pointed this out; I'm still catching up on reading a lot of things I missed)...Sounds like the flamenco cops can relax!

What an eventful weekend with all the videos and pictures. I like what I'm seeing! The more I watch the SP the more I like it. Congrats to Fluffy (and Shoma?) for yet another unique program. I like how it only has little bits of flamenco moves in it and then the end looks like a classic flamenco pose. If I can use a food analogy here it's like he's doing a deconstructed flamenco. All the ingredients are there but the end result is something different and more intriguing and tastier than the classic apple pie you've eaten a hundred times. I mean it's good but when you've eaten it so many times it gets boring. A good chef can make it great but it's still an apple pie. Which brings me to Great Spirit which I absolutely LOVE! He uses his whole body, it's fun and young. Full of energy and pauses just at the right time. When he started to fist pump...:jaw: Even though he shows passions in his programs he is very calm and collected and if I had to guess who would be the first to fist pump on ice it wouldn't be Shoma. And the best thing is that it didn't look akward at all it looked like he's spending his weekends clubbing away. Major improvement in TAT (Nolangoh, I'm with you in the Tarasova boat! :)). Smooth and catches the atmosphere. Extra points on the Shospin/zipspin :points: And of course he sticks his tongue out because he doesn't take himself too seriously which is probably a part of his success. Looking forward to seeing these programs develop even more. Yay Shoma! :hb::yahoo:

They really DO eat something other than yakiniku! https://www.instagram.com/p/BkccnZMDH0B/?taken-by=feimeicheng And I'm sure Shomita devoured that big bowl of broccoli!!!!!

ETA -- Love the old face! This was taken at Legal Seafood Restaurant in Boston, the day after Shoma's tearful 7th place finish at 2016 Worlds. Glad to see he had moved on and was already smiling.

Aaaaw...somebody threw something and I think it hit him and I heard a panicked ’Shoma, gome!’ But he just smiled, grabbed the gift and said thank you.

Throwback: Skate America 2016 after the men's victory ceremony. Shoma being called by so many fans that he didn't know where to turn, so he decides to go around again, to many happy cheers. 😊 Arriba, weren't you there?

Awww, now I have to relive my happiest experience – the first time I ever met Shomita! (Note: You’ve heard all this already – so feel free to skip, but it makes me happy just to think about it!). It was the first time he went to a competition early, in order to cope with his jet lag better. He came to Chicago about 5 days early for Sk Amer 2016. I was the only one at the local rink watching him practice, and I was just about paralyzed, I was so excited! It was the first time I had ever seen him up that close! He was practicing his spins so close to me I could have practically reached out and touched him. After he finished, I summoned up all my courage and asked if I could please take his picture. That was in the days when Itsuki did his best to stay out of the photos! So, he turned in such a way that he was not visible, but that’s him next to Sho. https://twitter.com/Arriba627FS/status/788823648261906432 After the photo, I shook his hand and wished him “Good luck” and he said (the cutest ever!!!!) “Thank you”.

What I love about that video clip that you posted Latremu, you can see how super happy he is after winning the gold medal. Those were REAL Sho smiles – not just “Oh I’d better smile now for the camera” smiles. I was so lucky that the first section he came to was the section where I was sitting. He was smiling the entire time and signing autographs, having his picture taken, etc. https://twitter.com/Arriba627FS/status/790401953692090368 He didn’t seem to mind one bit that everyone was speaking to him in English, and I’m sure he had no clue what was going on. He could tell he was surrounded by friendly fans who appreciated and loved him. :luv17: It was probably at this particular point that I realized how much I loved his nose!!!!! https://twitter.com/Arriba627FS/status/790401804760743936 Ah yes, the noodley tango hair, the nose, and the (ever-present) chewed up lips!!!!! After that, he started skating around, and several people asked him to pose with his medal. You can see him holding that bag with the polka dots that was in the video clip. So many people were yelling “Shoma kun! Shoma kun!” trying to get him to skate over by them, but time was running out because they (probably) had to go to their post-event press conference. https://twitter.com/Arriba627FS/status/790401655254683650

At that point, Adam left the ice, but Jason and Shoma continued to sign autographs, talk with people (there were LOTS of Japanese fans there), and interact with the audience. Finally, Kori Ade (Jason’s coach at the time) got on the intercom and started calling Shoma and Jason. Sho left the ice, but they still couldn’t pry Jason away from his fans. Over the intercom, Kori finally yelled “Jason Brown, this is your coach! You are grounded!” (grounded=punished, for those who don’t use that expression) Everyone laughed :laugh2: (including Shoma https://twitter.com/tigerlily4lo/status/790314787032805376 and the entire remaining audience!) and finally Jason left the ice.

And the icing on the cake, the following day he did “See You Again” at the gala and did that amazing cantilever that we all freaked out over (including you, Dr. Hronop)! https://youtu.be/btYi6Mm2aRQ?t=236 Thank you for letting me share these memories. Wow, happy days! And best of all – he is for real. He is so cute (oops sorry! :shame: I forget it's supposed to be kakkoii instead of kawaii) and so kind!

This is my first time hearing the story since I am new here so thanks for sharing 😁 you are so lucky! He is always so kind to his fans, isn't he? I really want to start going to fs competitions here in Europe in the future and see Sho. I heard his skating is even more beautiful live

P.S: we've almost reached 10.000 😃

I am making every effort to go to as many competitions as I can. Their careers are far too short. My sister and I have already agreed that we will go to Skate Canada if he is there. Argggghhhh! The suspense is killing me. Please ISU. , hurry up! Yes, he is awesome live. He is tiny but skates so big. You would love it! As far as being lucky -- well, this country is enormous. How can it be that he trains 20 minutes from my house?! :confused2: I am blessed! :dbana:

That's amazing, Arriba, thank you for this long read! This should have been our post #10000! :luv17:

Thank you, Arriba! I don't think I've heard the story yet. You truly are blessed. (How many fans can say they've encountered him personally many times?? You and Kana are part of a very select group!) I agree that his smiles after that event were so genuine. You could see how joyful he was. It was actually my favorite part of the video, when he was facing the camera up front. Thank you for sharing your story, thoughts, and pictures!!

I have to try and find the photo someone took of him on the plane on the way home. He is still wearing the same HUGE smile. He was thrilled to start off the "for real" season with that gold medal. I think it made him feel more pressure to repeat the gold at Rostelecom, but it was an awesome start to the season. Speaking of Kana, I'm really missing her. I hope we hear from her soon!

ETA -- Found the photo. He's on the plane on the way home and still smiling! My guess is that the following day after he won the gold medal at SA, his face probably hurt from smiling so much. So kakkoii!!!!

Arriba, you're so lucky! Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures, it was so joyful to read.

Hopefully soon he'll arrive to Chicago and you can enjoy his presence again (and give us updates 😉)!

His smile is so genuine, it's contagious. Thanks too for sharing the video, Latremu!

:hb::cheer::hb:HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Arriba, happy birthday to you!
All the best for you, and Shoma in Chicago very soon!

^^^:thank: Thank you very much! It's still the 26th here but is very close to the 27th. I'm trying to figure out what to do for a wild (?) celebration. I'm thinking about going to Benihana of Tokyo for some of that (fake) Japanese food I love! I keep hoping that as the best b'day present ever the GP assignments will be announced tomorrow! Grrrr -- fat chance! :dance2:
