To adjust with the technical content! Some of the jumps have been re-arranged, so the program evolves to facilitate that without losing complexity. I think the changes are new (they only worked on it after NHK Trophy) so I think as time passes hopefully the movements become more integrated to the program.

I can't complain with the change, it brought me this photo- courtesy of the brilliant Joosep Martinson :love2:

Hard to believe this is during the program, it looks like a possible starting or ending pose if you don't know it 🙂

My only criticism of Shoma is I hate his jump layout. He does four ultra-c single jumps and saves his combos for the end. At this event, despite scoring over 300, he only added a 2T, 2A to his two combos and missed his three jump combination altogether. He is lucky to not have any competition so far, this year. He has a huge buffer over Ilia. But, if Yuma is back, he cannot afford to give away all these free points.

I love how we have all kinds of Shoma fans here.... the ones that worry about his execution of elements, and the ones that's really enjoying the experience of his performances right now. Both perspectives are absolutely valid and I hope Shoma continues to work on every aspect of his skating, and most importantly, peak at the exact right moment. So all of us can be happier and happier 😆

No, seriously... I'm just happy. Everything, all of this, is all that I can ask for. Even the criticism and not positive feedback, because it means people are expecting more and more of him, and he is motivated to continue growing. And I think, it's all what Shoma asked for too, when he decided to continue competing.

^^^ Well said rabidline. Thank you. I know I've said my "Strategize. Strategize. Strategize." mantra enough times. Meh, whatever! They have a strategy, I just am not privy to exactly what it is. In the meantime, I am going to sit back and enjoy the sholler coaster ride. 🎢
It still makes my heart skip a beat when I think that he almost quit when he still had so much left to give. He has already built a marvelous legacy that most skaters can only dream of.

Ah, basking in the glow of victory with the Dream Team! They all work hard, but the rewards are great too! Sho looks pretty wiped out, but I know he'll give it his all at the gala. Hopefully the lucky fans will be treated to Padam Padam...On the sad side, little Pam has left the Uno household. I'm sure she will miss the warm, active environment. “We did everything we could so that Pam can be happy. Make sure you’re definitely happy, okay?” Waaaa! :console: :ghug:
So Pam found a new home? That’s wonderful. I know I originally thought that the Unos would keep her but they do have four pups already. I’m not sure how many more could live in the house. I’m sure Pam’s new home is lovely and will be filled with warmth, cuddles, kisses and laughs.

I did not really know about Shoma until almost 2 years ago. When I saw him skate at the 2021 World Championships I thought “Who is this guy? He is really good.” I remembered seeing a photo of him with Yuzuru and Javier when they won their medals in 2018 at the Olympics but I didn’t remember his name and I hadn’t been following the sport closely because during the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020 seasons I was away at university and was unable to see the skating. I’ve gotten caught up by seeing the 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons on tv and seeing things on social media. Shoma is and will always be my favorite skater ever 100% Why I like him so much is because he is so powerful in his arm movements and facial expressions. It makes him so emotional and I can always feel a story he is trying to tell when he takes the ice. He flows on the ice. I also like him for the person he is with the parts of him that he shares with the world. He seems like such a kind, caring, passionate, hardworking, loving, funny, and well mannered gentleman. I don’t really know what expectations to have for him because what I think is not important since I don’t know him personally. It’s what he thinks of himself and what he wants for himself that matters. If he wants to keep growing then he’ll know what he needs to work on to make it better. I don’t know much figure skating terminology and I don’t know how the grading system works so I can’t really give any specifics. The only expectation I can think of for Shoma is that he keeps going and enjoys it and is happy. He’ll be just fine. It’s an honor to be his fan and see his skating on TV. Maybe one day I will see him perform in an ice show in Japan.

Does he even like hugs? Hugging isn’t a part of Japanese culture.
Let say he has gotten used to it. A few years ago in an interview he said that hugging wasn't something he did
even though "foreign" skaters did it all the time. He said that the only person he felt comfortable publicly hugging was
Dai-chan. I think being coached by Stephan has brought out a more public affectionate side of Shoma as evidenced by
the hugs he gives his coach when he comes off the ice.

Interesting that you mention Hokusai; I added a silly drawing and some commentary to this obviously Hokusai-inspired card which was a gift for Shoma at Skate Canada. From left to right, it reads "Wave of Success," "Shoma Uno," and "Have a Good Season!"

Sadly, I'm not quite willing to use such superlatives to describe Shoma yet until he gets that third combo in and does the triple toe...😅 I love him very much, but there's definitely room for improvement...

Riding the wave of success is a good start, though. 😉
Oh, such a beautiful and thoughtful gift! :giggle:

Haha yeah, I realized it might come off as a bit too much with the comparison. To avoid sounding too detached to reality, I should perhaps clarify that I wasn't referring to the greatness of these historical geniuses in terms of world impact or completeness, rather, to how their work has the ability to touch the soul - using the same tools as others, but managing to create something extraordinary.
Of course, the thrill of competition is not unimportant so yes, hoping to see all the combos we know he can do further on! (the shombos!!) :hap10:

Of course, the combos are important in order to defend the titles, but personally I could watch all his programs all day even without a single jump. His skating skills and interpretation are just so stunning that I don't need any jump to enjoy the skating (I'm more on the artistic side fan 😅).

Yes, definitely! I'm one of those who are just enjoying the experience because I don't have a deep knowledge of the technical side of figure skating, but I'm enjoying reading the technical discussion and learning more from you guys.

I also have to thank Shoma for pulling me back to figure skating... I used to be a big fan until around maybe 2016, but I sort of fell out of love for the sport for a while and just watched some major events (tbh I was getting a bit bored of Yuzuru/Nathan dominating everything, although I say this with a lot of appreciation for both as skaters!). Shoma was the one skater I could never quite forget about, and it was him getting his olympic bronze and WC that made me want to get invested in the sport again. I'm so grateful for the wonderful season he's been giving us so far and for the fact that he made me love fs again 🥲❤️

I love watching Shoma perform and don't mind which jumps he does. However, I recognize that for him to continue to be on top he needs to improve his jump consistency.

I think Shoma has a great opportunity to work with a high level coach in Ghislain and I hope he will take full advantage of that during the post nationals period. There is a nice gap until 4CC where he could go to Champery and hopefully work with Ghislain on his jump technique.
