It is a Viennese Waltz, done in the style of the Bucks, ice dancers who were from Ravensburg.

But check.out the videos..that will give youthe idea.

Just think! An ice dance couple dancing to "Sugar Sugar" by Archie wearing costumes that look like clothes from the 1950's or 1960's!

good thread...

To be honest I'm not a fan of all these "classical ballroom" pattern dances like waltz, foxtrot as short dance pattern (the other thing is I hate the idea of short dance at all - it killed taking risque choices and being innovative in ice dance in my opinion), but if we're going to watch 10 or 20 waltzes in a row, I wish for an intelligent mix modern and classical - both in music choices and in choreography.

For music I'd go crazy if some duo would go for Chopin waltzes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sblAhm1SnI, I know it is nearly impossible, but hey - a girl can dream...

Another favourite waltz of mine I'd be thrilled to see on ice is Tchaikovski's Valse Sentimentale - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUuusqy50yk

At this moment I cannot recall some modern track with an appropriate waltz tempo which I like...

The waltz is one of the few patterns I can deal with watching a dozen in a row - more diverse choices, definitely. I love most anything Tchaikovski, and Shostakovich's Waltz no. 2 is one of my favorites.

Wedding sites are good for finding modern waltzes.

Here's one.

are a few of our favorite modern waltz choices:

"Here We Go" by Jon Brion — This was my tippy-top choice for a first dance song.
"Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog
"Dark Waltz" by Haley Westenra
"Gravity" by John Mayer
The Edward Scissorhands theme, by Danny Elfman
"If I Knew Then" by Lady Antebellum
"You And Me," by Lifehouse
"Never Tear Us Apart," by INXS
"Neville's Waltz" from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, by Patrick Doyle
"Come Away With Me." by Nora Jones
"First And Last Waltz" by Nickel Creek

"Open Arms" by Journey
"when a Man Loves a Woman" 6/8 time

No I was thinking..... "When a Man Loves a Woman."

Man, such limited choices :drama:

For a waltz beat? Good heavens, just try country/folk/Americana music which often uses a waltz beat. One of my faves is Richard Thompson's Waltzing's for Dreamers.

And this, which should have won the Oscar for Best Song the year it was nominated: Jennifer Warnes, "One More Hour" from Ragtime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl5KMSEM2Vo

Oh, I love Dark Waltz, and my husband and I used Come Away With Me as our first dance. I'd also be intrigued to see Secrets by Bevin Hamilton, or, on the more traditional side, the Sleeping Beauty waltz music or a Chopin.

I would really like to see a mix of classical and modern presentations that, hopefully, suit the persona of each team.

I do have a question, though. Do they require a specific number of beats per minute for the short dance, at least for the portion that includes the compulsory steps? I know that they had requirements for the compulsory dances, but I haven't paid as much attention to specific rules for the short dance as maybe I should.
